Woke Up, In a Familiar Place...?

I woke up. It was my third day in Roswaal's Mansion. I guess I gotta do the daily routine, which is just doing all the butler stuff.

I opened my eyes, and a familiar ceiling that has been burned to my mind appeared.

"...Huh...?" I muttered.

I certainly have seen this ceiling, but what time did I last see it? I can't remember some things that has happened.

I stood up from my bed, confused as to why I was staring at the ceiling. Then, an unfamiliar feeling struck me. I took a look downwards, and then I saw it. My clothes were changed from regular clothes to guest clothes. Why am I back in the guest room?

"There's something's wrong..."

Suddenly, the door slammed open. Subaru immerged from it. He was wearing an angry expression. I didn't know why.

"Hey Subaru, why am I-?" I asked.

He suddenly grabbed me by the collar. Why is he mad?

"Why did you kill me?!" he shouted. What is he talking about? Wasn't it just a regular night last night?

"I don't know what you're talking about. Why, what's happening?"

"Stop lying to me! All my conversation...all my work...the promise I made to Emilia...it's all... It's all gone!"

It looked like tears were forming onto Subaru's eyes.

"I am telling you, I have no idea what is happening! Why the hell are you even grabbing me?!"

I pushed him, and it made him fall down.

"I-I'm sorry! Are you okay-?"

"If that's the case...!" he suddenly shouted.

He looked at me. I was shocked when I saw what was in his face. He was crying. Tears were forming onto his eyes, and it was waving out of his face.

"Why did I Return By Death...?"

"Return By Death? How? I don't even remember you dying."

It was certainly weird. I didn't know why he suddenly just came up to me and grabbed me. Also, wasn't last night just normal?

"You... Did you seriously not kill me...?"

"I didn't! If I had a valid reason, I would probably strangle you to death, but no! I didn't kill you!"

He stood up, completely confused whether I killed him or not.

"You promise that...?"

"I promise!"

After a few minutes, Subaru had calmed down.

"Sorry... It's just that things are kinda out of place..."

"Sure, that's fine. But I gotta ask, how did you die?"

I don't remember him dying. If I hear a noise in my sleep, I would've instantly noticed that and took advantage of it.

"I...don't know. I only came to the conclusion that you killed me since you were the only person in the room."

That was only obvious. Even in a crime scene, if someone was near the incident, they would be suspected, even if they didn't do anything.

Suddenly, both the maid sisters entered the room.

"Barusu, what kind of disgraceful thing are you doing to our wonderful guest?" asked Ram.

"I wasn't doing anything. So you two don't remember anything..."

"What do you mean?"

The Return By Death is just as the name, but to give it more detailed explanation, Subaru goes back to time when he dies, and the one who gave him such power, or rather Authority, is Satella, the Witch Of Envy.

"No, it's nothing!" Subaru suddenly becomes energetic like before. It's kinda weird, to be honest. I don't know why, though.

"Sorry for what my friend over here has done. As Emilia-sama's savior, we cannot let anyone disrespect you." said Rem.

"No, it's nothing, really. I don't really have the rights to be called a savior, since it was Reinhard who did all the work."

Even though I hate to admit it.

"Breakfast has been served. The lord of the mansion, Roswaal, is waiting. If you could please not keep him waiting," the maid sisters said in unison. That synced voice was really amazing.

"Sure, I'll head out in a bit. I'm just gonna have to go change."

Everything was going as normal, like last time.
