1 Lockdown

I flipped the pen between my fingers, my book lying open and unread.

"As we all know, cells are the basic builders of life in the world. Research shows that near your brains white matter, dna shortens every time your cells multiply." My teacher said, scribbling nonsense onto the board.

"This research is promising, showing accurate results of how long and organism lived and how long before it dies-" I cut my teacher off, raising my hand. "Yes, Alex?"

"May I go to the bathroom?" I asked. My teacher seemed to get tense and I'm pretty sure she was mad. My teacher nodded and I got up out of my seat and exited the classroom. On my way out, I heard,

"Don't die on your way out!" From one of my fellow classmates.

I grunted on my way out. In reality, I wasn't going to the bathroom to pee. I was going to the bathroom in the back of the school that no one goes too so I can watch some stuff on my phone and wait out class. And since no one goes back there, I figured no one would find me.

I slipped into the bathroom and entered the very last stall. I took out my phone and started watching some things I am too embarrassed to say.

The sound of the principals voice came over the intercom.

"Lockdown. Lockdown. Students get into the nearest classroom and turn off all the lights."

I didn't think this was real, so I just kept watching. Then the lights went out. I got a message from my friend, saying:

{Dude where are you? It's a real lockdown, everyone is asking where you are.}

My heart skipped a beat. I turned my phone's brightness down and replied.

{I'm in the bathroom. What happened?}

I waited for five minutes.

{Apparently there is a crazy student with a knife and a gun knocking on doors and asking to be let in.}

I tried not to hyperventilate. Turning off my phone, I tried to listen for any sound. Finally, I heard the rushing of footsteps and a person walked into the bathroom, entering the stall right next to mine. I held my breath.

After a few minutes, a voice from the next stall said,

"I know you're in there."

The stall's door next to mine opened, and then I saw boots appear Infront of my stall. The person on the other side started screaming and banging on my stall door. "LET ME IN!" They'd scream. I heard gunshots, and the door seemed to rattle and would probably give out soon.

The door fell and I saw a kid about my age with overgrown hair, bloodshot eyes, and rags. The dud raised a gun and pointed it directly at me. I was frozen. I tried to move, but my limbs didn't respond. Finally, the dude pulled the trigger.

----

I was in a dark space. Occasionally I'd see bright light and then it would be obscured by darkness. I always said I wanted to go out with a bang, but not like this. I died, and now I'm somewhere. Finally, he bright light grew bigger and bigger until I was blinded.
