Chapter: A Deal, A bet and A Start From Zero

In a fully white room, another soul was given the chance to be more than simply dead. This soul was Nilcaris, a young man who loved stories above all else.

"So, I want you to collect the world cores you get once you finish a world's story." The God said with a simple smile on their featureless figure.

"… That's nice! And here I thought death would be boring if I knew I would have died earlier. But do tell me, why do this? If you are truly all-powerful?" Nilcaris was curious with a wide smile as he looked at the metaphysical being in front of him.

"What an odd human you are, just the type of person for this task. Now, I'd like to answer your question. I am that who has True Absolute power, and such should never be used lightly.

"I am also you and all there is, even beyond that. So you tell me if it would be fair to me if I used my power to resolve every problem?… Not to mention how uninteresting…" The God replied the smile never fading even in the slightest.

"Fair enough, I'll take you up on your quest. What's the reward and how many verses will I go to? Will I stay the same in every one or is there something else?" Nilcaris asked various questions determined to go on the greatest of journeys.

"I can't tell you how many verses, what's the fun in that? The unknown is a great part of adventures, ya know. As for your state, you'll live a full life in every verse you go.

"Before you ask, even if you become immortal I'll give a way out once the world dies or if it never dies, you just have to grab the world core and pled for it to end. If it's over, it will." The God responded to two of the three questions.

"How sly, giving me a job with no specified working hours, hahaha! If I didn't love this I would say no even if you are the Creator. However, I still want to know what's the reward. The pay is crucial for any job after all." Nilcaris sighed and then asked.

"As a reward, I'll let you make a simple request now and even give you three abilities so long as they are reasonable. I can't give you too much of an advantage over my other children even if you work for me. Remember even you will be bound by the laws of whatever verse you find yourself in." The God expressed.

"Such a stingy employer, despite being all-powerful… I'll take it though. For abilities, I want True Immortality, Warp manipulation, and A system tailored for my journey and me… There, I hope it's not too much to ask." Nilcaris knowing that asking for anything too powerful would not fly decided for what he believed best for him.

"Trying to bypass my rules, you kids really can't help yourself when it comes to that. Only I have real True Immortality in all of totality for I alone am the Omnipotent One, but I can make you a true Deathless, most would have no way of getting rid of you.

"As for the Warp Manipulation, Fine, you can have it, but it will start as simple portal creation and you can only use it to move within the verse you find yourself in even once it evolves into Warp.

"Finally, I'll give you the system just as you asked to compensate for the other two requests being changed to fit the mold." The God said amused by the young man.

"Geez… Can't have anything fancy with you, such a stingy God… Oh well, thank you. I'll take it, it is much better than not having powers. Now, you said I could make a request, right?" The young man pouted at the being in front of him yet continued speaking.

"Being stingy can be good for disciplining your child. If done correctly and not in exaggeration, it helps them become a bit more independent. Anyway, go ahead and make your request, young pervert." The God replied with a bit of smug.

"Pervert? Such a sudden insult… It's rude to read a person's mind or look into the future to see what they say or just to know it before they say it. Even so, I can't disprove your words…

"As for my request, I want to have access to an all-female version of the verse I visit once I'm done with my task in the original. Like a vacation." Nilcaris blushed a bit being called out, but the smile on his face didn't disappear.

"Fine, I'll incorporate it with your system. Just know that outside the three particularities that I'm giving you now, you won't have access to powers, abilities, or skills that don't exist in the verse you are in at the time.

"Though abilities you got in previous verses will be adapted to fit into the next one you go to. Aside from that, you are not the only person to ever visit these fictional verses through other means, but you are my only chosen one, so don't let others step on you." The God explained.

"Oh nice… competition… But at least my patron is the most powerful one, so I have that. Now, just one more question, you said I would have to end my life in each verse… will I be reborn every time?" Nilcaris was sweating a bit at the thought.

"Yup, what's life if you don't start the new one from zero." The God laughed.

"That's stupid… Aren't I supposed to be deathless??!!" Nilcaris protested.

"Everything is possible with the power of God, after all. Good luck in your journey, my chosen one. I hope you have a great story to tell by the end." The God waved as it was time for a goodbye.

"Wait! We aren't done you stingy ass motherf-" Just as Nilcaris wanted to keep refuting he saw himself slowly disappearing.

"Children are so sensitive these days, hehehehe. I truly hope to see a fun story… Well, I already know, but I can forget for the fun of it. After all, everything is possible with the power of God." The God smiled once more.

Amid a city with stone floors, a young man appeared without anyone noticing at all. He was a short dark-skinned young man with light blue hair, wearing a black long-sleeved compression shirt, and white baggy pants with brown sandals. 

The area around was a plaza of sorts with many people going back and forth, not all of which were human, as lizard people, animal people, elves, and many other races could be found roaming around. 

Taking in the scenery around, as an old-fashioned fantasy-like place with stone and wood structures, which were everywhere as carriages passed by and vendors yelled out to try and pull people to their stands filled with things from food to basic jewelry.

In the corner of the young man's eye, a few people clad in full-body armor could be seen coming that way, soon walking passed him with a few odd looks towards him before moving on.

"Am I where I think this is?" Nilcaris questioned with his purple eyes almost glistening with the feelings overflowing from him as the widest of smiles was reviled. 

It was clear from just looking around that this place was not Earth, due to all the creatures he only knew of through fiction just going about their day like it was nothing.

Not wasting a second he ran, looking for something as he did, attracting quite a bit of attention, many eyes turning to him due to the unusualness of seeing, one in such a hurry, that and his clothing was not exactly common. It was no miracle, but it caught a few gazes.

Even then, the amethyst-eyed young man seemed to have greater priorities.

However, while he was busy running, floating screens appeared before his eyes as he heard a soothing female voice.

[Welcome to the Dream Chaser System]

[My goal is to guide you to fulfill your dreams, and due to this, you receive unlimited potential and immense growth. Now the main function of the system as its name says is to chase dreams.

[Once you set up a dream, the system will create a quest about it and give appropriate rewards. The punishment for failure will depend on the 'dream' set by you. Currently, as you are a rank I entity, only one dream can be set at a time.]

[Note: Only your real dreams will be accepted]

[Secundary functions include, Status screen and Inventory.]

"Only real dreams?... Then my dream is to have the perfect harem for me," Nilcaris spoke shamelessly with a smirk.

[A dream has been set, and as such a quest will be generated.]

[Description: As a lustful man, you have always wanted to have a harem, and now it's time to live up to that. A true harem master does not lose.

Objetive/s: Form a harem by getting at least 3 women to agree to join it.

Failure condition/s: Rejected 3 times by separate women, rejected 3 times by the same women, your death, death of a member of your harem, one of the harem members abandoning it, one of the harem members betraying it

The amethyst-eyed young man got the quest as he was still running.

"I'll lose the harem route? Never! I like the challenge though... Hum... System, what classifies as a 'real dream'?" Nilcaris rubbed his chin as he asked.

[A precious goal that you want from the bottom of your heart.]

"That doesn't help.... Whatever, I'm a man of many dreams anyway. Also from now on your name is Genesis Mira Love. I'll call you Genive for short." Nilcaris said casually as he ran.

[That's a terrible naming sense you have right there. Thank you for my name. The name has been registered.] Genive's voice almost sounded tired as she replied.

"Good, according to my specifications you have your own mind and are female, right?" Nilcaris asked to make sure.

[Yes... Unfortunately...] Genive said.

"You don't sound thrilled," Nilcaris commented still running around and feeling closer to his destination.

[I don't imagine most beings would be thrilled to know they were created for a self-admitted pervert whose dream is to create a harem. I simply would have liked to have a better purpose for my existence, but worry not, I would cease to be before I would consider acting against you, unlike me, you're safe and free.] Genive responded calmly.

"That's fine, I would never worry about that, I can handle myself. As for freedom, while I am free compared to you, I'm not as free as I dream to be, so I'm far from satisfied, so why don't we make a bet to keep things fair?" Nilcaris suggested with a small smile.

[What would be the purpose of that?] Genive questioned.

"Very simple, if I win You get to be free, I wasn't expecting you to turn out like this but it's likely my fault, because of my desires. So, I think that's fair." Nilcaris proposed.

[I assume I would remain in servitude in case of me losing?] Genive asked.

"Only until I either succeed or die. So what do you say?" Nilcaris was curious about her reaction.

[What's the bet?] Genive inquired.

"Whatever, you can set it up yourself." Nilcares shrugged seemingly not worried.

[Why give me that right? I could just set up a bet only I can win.] Genive was confused.

"If you want freedom you should get a real chance to have it. Just don't lose it again, 'cause if you do, I'm not a hero, so I won't save you." Nilcaris stopped running as he was looking at the scene in front of him with a smile.

[I mean... Then why not just give it to me?] Genive did not beliave him.

"Because it would be hard to trust that, and even if you did, you probably would not value it enough. Individuals tend to value what they earned themselves more than what was given. I myself, am the kind to want to reach the pinnacle with my own hands. That's why I accepted God's deal." Nilcaris responded.

[You say that, but you got me and two other particularities...You didn't earn us yourself.] Genive pointed out.

"That's true, but even a man with principles would be a fool to reject advantage, and I got as much of it as I could within the reasonable, not perfect but good, and that's all I wanted in my starter pack," Nilcaris said calmly.

[Particularities like me all have a consciousness, though typically dormant, I am an exception... So how about this, the bet will be, if you manage to truly love someone in this verse before its story ends, I'll stay, but if you can't you have to give up all your Particularities.] Genive proposed instead.

"Hahaha, you could have chosen something harder and more immediate... It would end with you winning and leaving, easily." Nilcaris raised his eyebrow as he commented.

[I can't just leave without fulfilling my purpose at all, and I don't really know you... So, it might not be so bad, I was just scared of being trapped in the existence of serving you, but this way, I will see for myself who you are, and also leave with my kin if you fail to prove yourself. It's much more comforting to exist this way.] Genive answered with a much lighter tone.

"So basically you're testing me?... I won't lie, you chose a hard one... I have never been in love, but I fear no challenge! I'll accept." Nilcaris nodded his head despite the obvious cold sweat on his face.

[You're actually accepting?... How odd... Either way, are you sure?]

[Yes] or [No]

"Of course." Nilcaris chose [Yes] without a second thought.

[A contract(Bet) has been formed between us. It will be a pleasure to work with you.] Genive replied with a much more eager tone, having a newfound appreciation and curiosity towards her master.

"I'll win this bet, don't worry, but now time to meet this guy…" Nilcaris smiled as he looked at the street in front of him.

There's few more vendor stands could be found as well as many more people going about their day, and in front of one of those stand, there was a stand out black haired young man.

The reason he stood out was the same as the amethyst eyed young man, his clothes as he was wearing a tracksuit boasting the colors white, orange and black.

[What? Who is that guy? He's clearly also not from this world, and my scans indicate he's surrounded by a very dense miasma. Shall I do a full on analysis on him?] Genive asked a bit intrigued.

"No need, this bastard is not much of a threat… Well, as long as you're not on the enemy side that is.

"To think Re:Zero would be my first stop… I've only seen up to season two… Hahahaha, this will be interesting." Nilcaris began walking towards the young man, who was now being offered what appeared to be an apple by the vendor.

[Hey! You didn't answer my question.] Genive spoke up.

"Shouldn't you have my memories or meta knowledge or something?" Nilcaris questioned as he continued walking.

[I don't have any of that, but considering you designed me, I wonder who's fault it is really.] Genive commented.

"So you really don't know? That's Subaru, Natsuki Subaru." Nilcaris said calmly, noticing he had gotten to his destination.

[That doesn't tell me anything, though I can get your memories if you give me access. Also you're right next to this Subaru guy.] Genive informed.

"Then do it, it'll be annoying if you don't know anything…. Oh…" Nilcaris replied then realized.

Subaru was stunned for a few seconds before yelling.

"Huh? Who are you talking to?! Me?!… Wait, how do you know my name?!" Then he paused before mumbling to himself. "Did I yell it at some point?"

[I'll be busy with your memory while you deal with this.] Genive went off to complete the assignmened task.

"Don't worry about that, I wanted to meet you." The amethyst eyed young man crossed his arms with a small smile as he spoke.

"Huh? Why? Who are you, and why do you wanna meet me? Do you have any idea how suspicious you seem?" Subaru recoiled a bit and took a bit of a poor defense stance.

Shimming in, even the vendor spoke, his expression betraying his annoyance. "I don't know what's going on between the two of you, but you should take your quarrel somewhere else! I'm trying to make a living here!"

This startled both of them a bit as they looked at the vendor with awkward expressions.

"Fine" Nilcaris turned to Subaru and then said. "My name is Nilcaris Love, or you can just call me Nil.

"I have some business to discuss with you,Subaru. So, why don't we talk a bit more calmly somewhere else?"

"Fine, lead the way." The black haired young man answered with a hesitant look, but some intrigue could be found in his eyes.

It was clear that Subaru had formed an idea of who this odd individual who approached him was, and there was only one way to find out.

So, Nilcaris led the way, as the first meeting between the altruistic hero, and the selfish bastard was taking place.
