Prologue

In the dimly lit hall of the makeshift orphanage, amidst the cacophony of hushed whispers and shuffling feet, a sense of disorientation washed over me. Clad in tattered rags, surrounded by other children in similar attire, I struggled to grasp the reality of My situation.

Lost in the fog of confusion, My mind replayed fragments of a distant memory - a phone call, a flash of light, and then this unfamiliar place. My heart ached with a longing for understanding, for a connection to a past that seemed to slip through My fingers like sand.

Beside Me, a boy with eyes that mirrored his own whispered words of reassurance, offering a lifeline of comfort in the sea of uncertainty. "They are giving food," the boy murmured, his voice a soothing balm to Me . "I know you don't like it, but adjust. You know we can't do anything right now. And besides, if you don't eat, Mom will yell at me when we meet her."

Mom? The word echoed in My mind, stirring a faint spark of recognition buried deep within My consciousness. It seemed that in this orphanage, amidst the harsh reality of their existence, the bond of brotherhood remained unbroken. My heart swelled with gratitude for the companionship of My newfound brother, a beacon of hope in the darkness that threatened to engulf them both.

"Roy, I am talking to you," the boy continued, his voice pulling Roy back from the depths of his thoughts. "Where did you suddenly go? Now hurry up, eat this so we can go to sleep. Tomorrow we have so many chores. You know they have a schedule for everything."

With a nod of understanding, I accepted the meager meal before Me, his hunger paling in comparison to the hunger for answers that gnawed at My soul. But for now, amidst the flickering candlelight and the soft murmur of voices, he found solace in the simple comfort of companionship and the promise of a new day dawning.
