1 Chapter 1 - The story of Xia Yan Ting

02 September 1995

Nanjing

Xia Wei Ting carry his father's ashes, sitting in the China embassy's car.

"Mr Xia, your mum was a great hero. She was one of the top spy who managed to get hold of the Japanese information that time during the World War 2. But she really suffered a lot." The driver said.

"Thank you for the praise of my mum." Wei Ting replied.

The car stops at the Nanking war memorial cemetery. Some of the embassy officers guided him to Yan Ting grave.

At Yan Ting grave. The tomb stone have changed and re-engraved as "Madame Xia Yan Ting and General Takeshita Kenniji grave".

"Madame?! What a big joke?! How can the government address a man as Madame?!" Wei Ting asked angrily in a soft tone.

"We're sorry Mr. Xia. During those days there were no such things as men giving birth. And Madame Xia she have given birth to two other kids so we're not supposed to address him as Sir. We understood he sacrificed a lot for our country." A embassy officer said quietly.

"You're right, Mr Ho. My mum he is even more beautiful than a man. If he didn't met back my Dad his life will not be so miserable." Wei ting replied sadly.

In the evening at a book cafe.

A banner written, "Xia Wei Ting autograph session for novel, "My mum was a top spy"."

Lots of people queuing up, holding the novel.

A reporter was at the location sitting next to Xia Wei Ting.

A fan went up to Wei ting...

"Please help me to sign an autograph on my diary. I doesn't want to dirty the cover of the book. Your dad-mummy is so pretty wearing the opera costume." A fan said.

"Dad-mummy?! What is that?!" Wei ting asked curiously.

"That is a daddy that can give birth. I don't know whether it's a fiction novel or real life biography, but this story is so sad and beautiful. It will be a huge sellable novel. How old is Mr Xia now?" A fan asked.

"I am already 59. I am also a Daddy-Mummy. I have a pair of twins and they're already 30, both have their own family and one is staying in Osaka and one staying in Nanjing. My husband is a Japanese." Wei ting replied.

"So beautiful! No wonder Mr Xia looks so fair." A fan said and walks off.

After the autograph session.

Wei ting and the reporter have a interview session.

During the interview.

"Hi Mr Xia. Thanks for coming to Nanjing and share with us your best selling novel, "My mum was a top spy". We heard it is based on a true life story of a top spy during the Second World War. Is that true?" The reporter asked.

"Yes, he is my mother, Xia Yan ting. He was a famous opera singer and courtesan back in the 30s in Nanjing, Hua Ting." Wei ting replied.

"Pardon me?! He..he is your mother?! But..but he was a lady, why do you address him as a he and how can he be your mother?!" The reporter asked surprisingly.

"In the early days no one have heard about intersex person and no one accepted same gender relationship. Xia Yan ting upper body was a man and the lower body was a woman. During his childhood days he was a playmate for my father, General Kenniji. They were childhood friends since 5 years old. But few years later his mum passed away and his father brought him back to China." Wei ting replied.

"Interesting story. It's all written in your novel?" The reporter asked.

"Yes. The movie of the novel is going to premiere tomorrow night at Nanjing cinema which is the same building as Hua Ting. Here a pair of tickets for you to watch." Wei ting replied.

"Thanks Mr Xia, see you tomorrow." The reporter said.

The interview ended at 630pm. Wei ting took a taxi to the memorial cemetery.

At outside of the memorial hall.

"Hi Mr Xia, it's you again. Come and visit your parents again? There is also a man at your mum's grave." The security guard said.

"A man? Who is it?" Wei ting asked.

"He claims that he is Madame Xia elder son." The Security guard replied.

Wei ting walks over to the grave.

"Who you are?! Are you the one who add in that bastard ashes together with my mum?!" Wei guang asked angrily.

"I am his first son, Xia Wei Ting." Wei ting replied.

"Do you know how your dad betrayed our mum?! He told the Japanese soldiers he was a spy! Do you know how much he suffered after he married!? After your dad left him, to protect himself, he sold himself to the Japanese as a male prostitute.Luckily my dad, Li boqiang rescued him." Wei guang said angrily.

Wei ting walk out of the cemetery with tears. Thinking of what Yan ting told him by his death bed.

20 Dec 1948

Nanjing General Hospital

General Kenniji and 13 years old wei ting rushed to Nanjing to see Yan ting for the last moment.

In Yan ting ward.

"Ken..Kenniji, do..do you still remember me? How is our son, Wei ting?" Yan ting asked.

"I bought him here. Wei ting, you talk to your mum." Kenniji replied.

Kenniji walks out…..

"Wei..Wei ting, your dad still bear grudges against me? I cannot blame him. I only blamed myself. What..whatever I done, I have repay back to your dad. (Cough badly)… Wei ting keep a distance from me when I coughed. Your mum have TB. Pro..promised mummy a thing. Please..please help me to place my ashes together with your dad when he died. I..I know he is waiting for me." Yan ting said weakly.

"Mum, I will. Mum, dad definitely never blame you before. He loves you very much." Wei ting replied crying.

Yan ting used his hands to wipes the tears on wei ting's face.

"Mum..mummy know. Cos mummy loves him for…"

Yan ting said half way and passed away.
