Students Are My Hazard

Chapter 03: Students Are My Hazard

-----------------------------------

"Why are you here?" Daiki asked, a vein pulsating on his forehead, clearly baffled by Nia's unexpected and early morning visit.

Nia, in her usual bubbly manner, simply replied, "Because I was bored!"

"You came to our house at 6:30 in the morning because you were bored?" Daiki's incredulity was evident.

Nia nodded cheerfully in response. "Uh-huh," she affirmed before taking matters into her own hands. "I'm coming in!" Without waiting for further invitation, she pushed past Daiki and walked inside the house.

With a resigned sigh, Daiki closed the door and followed Nia into the house, anticipating that the morning might have taken a chaotic turn thanks to her spontaneous visit.

Nia's eyes lit up when she spotted the array of food laid out on the table. "I'm joining!" she announced, taking her place at the dinner table with an air of enthusiasm.

It was hard for Itsuki to hide her irritation as she glared at the woman sitting across from her. "Why are you here?" she asked pointedly.

Nia waved off the question with a nonchalant attitude. "Don't mind me, Gou-chan!" she said, rubbing the back of her head and waving her hand dismissively. "With all this food Dai-chan made, I'm not his friend if I don't join in," she added, her infectious enthusiasm seemingly unscathed by the bewildered reactions of those around her.

"As energetic as always, eh, Nia-chi?!" Yotsuba, clad in her bathrobe, made her entrance into the dining room.

Nia, never one to hold back her enthusiasm, responded with a thumbs-up and a grin. "Osu! Your figure is as nice as ever, Yocchi!"

Daiki, however, was quick to intervene, his irritation showing. "Stop perving on my sister, Nia," he scolded, appearing behind her and delivering a karate chop to her head.

"Dai-Nii, good morning!" Yotsuba greeted Daiki with a powerful hug that would have posed a challenge for anyone else. Fortunately, Daiki was a Campione, so he didn't have to worry about losing his breath due to the strength of her embrace.

Returning the hug, Daiki greeted her in kind. "Good morning, Yotsuba." His concern, however, was evident when he noticed her wet hair. "Your hair is still wet. Go and dry it quickly, or you'll get sick," he advised, releasing her from the hug.

"Roger!" Yotsuba saluted him enthusiastically and promptly made her way upstairs to her room, eager to heed her brother's advice.

"Siscon," Nia muttered as she rubbed her head where Daiki had delivered a chop.

Daiki, unfazed by the remark, chuckled and replied, "And I'm proud to be one." Without dwelling on it further, he hurried to the kitchen upon hearing the sound emanating from the toaster, eager to ensure that breakfast was ready and served.

-----------------------------------

Five minutes later,

"Itadakimasu!" The Nakano family, with the exception of their father, gathered around the dining table, joined by Nia. The seven of them eagerly began their breakfast.

Nia, in her usual spirited manner, couldn't contain her enthusiasm. "Delicious! Dai-chan's cooking is absolutely scrumptious!" Her words spilled out between mouthfuls of bread as she lavished compliments upon Daiki.

A warm smile played on Daiki's lips as he acknowledged Nia's praise while continuing to enjoy his breakfast. His gaze wandered to his sisters, each of them savoring the meal with smiles adorning their faces. In that moment, a deep sense of contentment settled in Daiki's heart. Protecting the happiness reflected in their smiles was a duty he took seriously, even if it meant confronting and defeating gods.

As he ate the meal, Daiki's thoughts briefly wandered to the Heretic God he had encountered this morning and the Authority he might have gained in the process. While he didn't typically rely on Authorities, mostly sticking to using Gawain's [Galatine] and [Revolving Wind], which he had obtained from Szélatya, he couldn't help but wonder about this new power.

"I heard you took a walk in the neighborhood this morning," Nia's voice brought him back to the present. He knew exactly what she was referring to, as she had been involved in his "enthusiastic walks" on previous occasions.

"Yeah," Daiki nodded in agreement before finishing chewing. "Nothing particularly special," he continued as he popped a piece of bread into his mouth. "But it was an enjoyable walk," he added, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"Did you get some inspiration from it?" Nia pressed; her curiosity piqued.

"Yeah, I'm thinking about using Norse mythology as a base," Daiki replied, his shoulders shrugging nonchalantly. "I'm considering a story about a hunter with revenge theme," he explained.

Ichika couldn't help but express her annoyance as the two continued to discuss work during breakfast. "Nia and Aniki are talking about work at the dining table again!" she groaned, clearly irritated by their ongoing conversation.

Daiki chuckled in response, his smile warm and genuine. "Ahaha, I'm sorry, Ichika," he apologized, his affection for his sisters evident in his expression. "I'll stop talking about it, okay?" His smile, reserved only for moments spent with his beloved sisters, persisted.

-----------------------------------

The breakfast proceeded smoothly, and as the meal concluded, it was time for the siblings to head to school. Daiki carefully arranged five bento boxes on the table, each prepared with care for his sisters to take with them.

"We're off!" With their bento boxes in hand, the five sisters made their way out of the house, ready to start their day at school. Daiki watched them go with a smile on his face, bidding them farewell with a heartfelt, "Take care." In this moment, the absence of their mother weighed heavily on his heart, and he longed for her presence.

With his sisters gone, Nia, the unconventional addition to their morning gathering, announced her departure as well. She retrieved some beers from the fridge, ready to return home to tackle her impending deadline. Bundled up in a baggy coat, she exchanged goodbyes with her friend.

"Want me to prepare a bento for you?" He was aware that Nia's fridge was usually devoid of any substantial food, and her regular visits to their house often involved stocking up on beer.

"Nah," Nia shook her head dismissively. "I don't think I'll have time to eat. Drinking is more convenient when dealing with deadlines," she explained, her words carrying a hint of weariness.

"Suit yourself," Daiki responded, letting out a weary sigh as he acknowledged the demands of Nia's busy life.

"Bye, Dai-chan!" Nia waved cheerfully, turning to return to her own home, leaving Daiki to contemplate their morning routine.

-----------------------------------

Daiki entered the classroom with an attendance sheet firmly in his hand. "Alright everyone, good morning," Daiki announced.

"Raise!" The class president, along with her fellow classmates, stood up in unison. "Bow!"

"Good morning, sensei!" the students chorused, their voices respectful as they greeted Daiki while executing a perfect bow.

"Sit down," the class president declared, taking her seat along with the rest of the students.

Daiki took charge and began the roll call.

"Hori-san!"

"Hai!" the brown-haired girl replied promptly.

"Kazehaya-san!"

"Hai!" responded a dark-haired boy with enthusiasm.

"Mizushino-san!"

"Hai!" came the reply from a bespectacled brown-haired boy.

"Natsuki-san!"

Silence followed. Daiki attempted again. "Natsuki-san!" but met with the same lack of response.

"Natsuki-san is absent today too, sensei!" Takemoto Uruka, a tanned girl with short pink hair, reported dutifully.

"Is that so?" Daiki nodded, acknowledging the information, and proceeded with the roll call, his efficient demeanor reflecting his commitment to his role as their teacher.

"So," Daiki began, his voice filled with warmth as he addressed his students. "Today will be the last day we'll be meeting in this classroom," he announced with a rare smile gracing his face. The students were taken aback by this unexpected display of emotion from their teacher, and they immediately started to react, their excitement filling the room.

"S-sensei! You'll still be our homeroom teacher next year too, right?" Yuigahama Yui, a girl with light orange hair in a loose side bun, raised her hand eagerly, her question rushing out of her like a breathless plea.

"I suppose," Daiki replied, his smile unwavering. "After all, I don't think other teachers can handle this class," he added with a faint hint of humor, though a light frown tugged at his lips.

"Yup! Yup! We're yours and yours only," chimed in Ishikawa Tooru, a boy with short purple hair, his enthusiastic agreement resonating through the classroom.

"Ishikawa... don't say such misleading things," Daiki sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation. He knew that his students had a penchant for antics, and their attachment to him was endearing, if not occasionally overwhelming.

Becoming a teacher had been a somewhat unconventional journey for Daiki, thanks to his behind-the-scenes manipulation as a Campione. He had chosen this path because he aspired to follow in the footsteps of his beautiful mother, and he had no interest in attending university to pursue that dream. Why not make use of his authority when it allowed him to fulfill his passion?

"Sensei! Give us your LINE ID!" someone in the classroom shouted, and the request quickly spread through the ranks of students.

"Why do you need your teacher's LINE ID?" Daiki nearly exclaimed, skepticism evident in his voice.

"For studying purposes!"

Daiki couldn't quite believe such a flimsy excuse, but he figured that giving his students his LINE ID wouldn't cause any harm. So, he reluctantly shared the information with them, a small concession to their requests.

This was the daily life of a teacher named Nakano Daiki. While he faced threats from Heretic Gods in his role as a Campione, he often felt that the antics of his students were equally capable of hastening his demise. Yet, he had chosen this path willingly and would navigate it to the end, cherishing the unique bond he shared with his students.
