38 Mother-in-Law

The moonlight paved their way forward. Han Li and his fiance, Shan Liyue walked towards her home with calm steps. Liyue had the urge to start a conversation but couldn't bring herself to speak. Han Li was also silent.

They each had a small cover filled with packed and fresh food in their hands and as she walked, Liyue needed something to focus her gaze on, so she looked at the packet in Han Li's hands.

'Why is it so stable? His hand is so steady…'

It was like the package didn't know it was being held. As if walking didn't affect the cover's movements.

Han Li briefly paused and looked at a house some distance away. With lanterns outside lighting up the surroundings of the house that was considerably bigger than his own thatched house. 

"…That's my house," she said in a weak voice.

"I know," Han Li nodded and looked at her and she involuntarily looked back at him. "Let's go meet your mother first."
