Great Oak Capital

Chapter 11

I've been complaining about the scorching sun for the past thirty minutes since we left the village, to me it's been hours. cept reminds me that we all agreed to use the route in a " High sun region " since it would be quicker to make it to the capital. I know we all agreed but I just can't bear the heat, I think I might pass out. what's worse is I've nearly emptied my water bottle. everyone including the village chief is half naked, to make dealing with the heat easier. like many other kingdoms on the continent, we have a few places with climatic anomalies. places that could range from the extreme cold to hot, rainy or sunny or even muddy. we're currently in one such place called a " High sun region ", places like this are always so hot and even the air makes my lungs burn. these regions aren't exclusive to any kingdom but more so scattered across the continent at large, and have a variety of flora and fauna and animal species that inhabit them. most kingdoms can be found within these regions and others outside the regions. I've finished my water and I need water so I start throwing a tantrum.

" I need water "

" ... "

" don't ignore me "

" you've had yours, now deal with it " cept replies

" I'm burning up from inside "

" here, you can have mine " says luvera

" thanks "

cept starts groaning about how she's spoiling me and stuff, but she doesn't reply him.

it's been about eight hours since we left the village and the chief tells us we would soon arrive at the capital. finally, I'm so pumped to see the capital. it'll be my first time visiting the capital, and though we're here on serious business I can't let the chance slip by. after a while we finally get to a point we can see the capital, it's night fall and we can see the capital light up the night sky from the horizon. it's really pretty from afar and is worth every bit of hype, normally I would explain it to you in detail but I don't have the strength to start mumbling about it's beauty in detail. if you're really so interested then come see it for your self. the chief tells us not to act suspicious when at the capital gates and to let him do all the talking. we get to the west gate and join the long ass queue, as we patiently wait our turn to be screened at the gate we notice some commotion at the front of the line. it seems someone's in trouble for trying to bring some sort of contraband into the capital. I didn't even know you could get in trouble for that, at the village we never really needed this level of security, but I guess things are different in the capital. it gets to our turn and the guard asks the chief to state his business, he tells them he has an important message to deliver to the " lords of Commons ". they ask for an invitation document, which he provides, they ask for a capital pass. I start to zone out cause long talk ain't my thing. the guard walks up to me and asks if we're with him, he replies yes since the document clearly states the village chief and others. they finally let us through the gates and wow the capital is not what I thought it to be. I mean the place is smelly and disorganized, it almost seems more like a crime city or even a city of thieves. the people around are so unkept and look like they're about to die at any moment, even we from the kingdoms borders look more healthy than they do. it almost leaves me nauseous. cept notices my disappointment and tells me not to believe everything I hear about the capital, according to him the capital is beautiful and majestic but not all of it, only the parts where the nobles live.

the " Great Oak Capital " is divided into a few Sub sections, the lords commons, the mid yards, the merchant square and the agi.

the lords commons is where all the kingdoms royal family and others of noble blood reside, hence they suck the kingdoms wealth dry. they have the most experienced knights with the finest weaponry, they guzzle the sweetest wine and eat only the most delicious meat, they wear robes of only the best material. they keep the kingdoms wealth in circulation only amongst themselves.

the mid yards, another Sub section of the capital, where second class citizens reside, pretty self-explanatory this one.

the merchant square also self-explanatory.

then there's the agi, agi is just a fancy word for kingdom gutter. this section of the capital holds the kingdoms criminal underbelly, where chances of survival are guaranteed by who can secure the most scraps. this part of the kingdom is ruled by criminals and is void of any proper law enforcement, any law enforcement here is probably bought off by the crooks and such. one thing that stands out about this part of the capital is that it has an unhealthy amount of roachfolk citizens according to kingdom laws, laws that permit roachfolk to live within the capital state that they must have a master. so essentially they are slaves to the wealthy and noble of the kingdom. the Oak Kingdom might be my home, but even I can't deny that it has a rotten core. concerning the roachfolk, I'll explain them later but for now we're looking for a motel we can stay in till the council meeting begins. we get to a motel and make our way inside, there doesn't seem to be anyone at the reception so I start hitting the bell, then someone answers.

" I'm coming just gimme a minute " he says

he comes down the stairs and what do you know, it's a roachfolk, guess I'll have to go into detail on what they are and how they look.
