Busted I

She slightly pushed the door and peeked her head inside. 'Strange. Why is everywhere quiet?' This must be her lucky day.

Her father might be in his study room, and her Mum– 'Well, she is probably keeping him company or still in her room.'

With that in mind, she let out a soft giggle and then carefully pulled her legs out of the long heels.

She held the straps of the shoes in one hand while the other hand was gripping her bag as her eyes wandered around the enormous living room then she tiptoed up the stairs, and through the hallway toward her room.

Stopping in front of a door as her face broke into a smile and she let out a huge sigh of relief then reached for the doorknob.

She pushed the door open and stepped inside the room.

"You impudent child!... How dare you trick us, where are you coming from!!!"

"Ahhhhhh" Lucy staggered with dilated pupils and her back hit the door. "F... Father, Mum!?"

Her widened eyes darted between the couple sitting on her bed and her heart started beating erratically.

"Henry..." Her mother looked at her father while pointing to her dress. "L... Look what she's wearing, Henry, this girl."

"Leave her to me, Grace." The middle-aged man comforted his wife, then turned to her with a glare and bellowed, "I don't want to repeat myself. Where were you last night!?"

Lucy tugged down her dress while her legs trembled and shifted on the floor. "F... Father, I... I was with–"

"Don't you dare lie to us." Her mother cut her off. "You didn't go to your brothers' house and also ditched the driver on the road, Andrew told us everything."

"And don't just stand there, come closer while we speak to you!" Her father butted in and hit his cane on the floor. His eyes were red with anger, and his hand which was holding the cane shook violently.

Lucy shook her head in a rapid movement and cowered back. She wasn't a fool to go near them? "I... I was with Gina. Y–Yes, I went to Gina's place and spent the night there. That's why– I didn't go to my sisters-in-law's place."

"Shut up!" Her father cut her off and she flinched. He stood up, grabbed her arm, and shook her rapidly. "You... you said slept at Gina's place!?"

"Ahhh. I'm speaking the truth, Father, please let go." She wriggled her hand however his grip on her tightened as his expression turned dark. Her gaze turned to her mother who had suddenly let out a gasp.

"Henry... This girl has gotten out of hand." The middle-aged woman shook her head in disbelief while staring at her in astonishment. "Lucy! We called Gina's brother and he told us that the girl didn't spend the night at home... How dare you lie to us. Were you girls together last night?" she demanded with a stern gaze.

"Now, if you don't speak the truth, young lady. I'll make sure these oversized eyes become as tiny as a needle!" The man growled.

Lucy cried inside, seeing that she was caught red-handed. Her head lowered and she fumbled with her dress. "Mommy, my arms. They're going to break off!." She whined to her mother while trying to free her hands.

"Henry... Let her go, her engagement is in a few days, we wouldn't want to disfigure her yet," The woman commanded and her father released her. Then she turned to her with a glare.

"Now, tell us where you were last night, or else, I'll call your brother here, and tell him to lock you in the basement. And I'll also make sure your Big Brother knows about it."

"No, please not the basement." Lucy waved both hands with widened eyes and shook her head. "I'll speak the truth, please don't tell Big Bro," she mumbled with a sigh.

"Me and Gina... We... We actually went to a b... bar—"

"What!?" Her mother's hand flew to her chest, and she stared at her with widened eyes.

"Lucy, you!." Her father shook with anger. He grabbed her ear and roared, "What were you doing in a bar? Who did you go there to meet!?"

"Ouch, father. please let go, you're hurting me?" Lucy wailed. "I swear we didn't go there to meet anyone. It was a get-together, and it was arranged by our coursemates... Mom, please help!"

Her father released her while trying to catch his breath. He pointed at her. "If you've caused any scandal this time, and I found out that you were told us a lie, not only engagement but even if your wedding is on the next week, I'll make sure to poke these eyes out!"

With that said, he stormed out of the room and shut the door with a bang.

Lucy flinched while rubbing her arm then she turned to her mother with a pout. "Mummy—"

"When would you stop behaving like a child. Your engagement is only next week and you've started again with your reckless attitude." Her mother scolded then eyed her dress with a sigh. She nodded in the bathroom's direction and said, "Change out of this dress and wear something nice. Cedric called, he'll stop by later. He said he couldn't reach you on the phone. Gosh, you're unbelievable."

Lucy pursed her lips. "But Mum—" she whined as the woman pushed her inside the bathroom.

After shutting the bathroom door, the middle-aged woman walked back to the bed.

She sat down while her eyes wandered around the messy room and she let out a sigh.

Several minutes passed before the bathroom door was opened.

Lucy walked out of the bathroom, now in her bathrobe. Her gaze landed on her mother who was sitting on the bed and she pouted then walked toward the vanity mirror and grabbed a hairdryer before sitting on the chair.

The woman stood up with a shake of her head and stepped toward the mirror as the girl struggled with the hairdryer. She took it from her hand with another sigh and started helping her dry her hair.

"You will not leave this mansion until the engagement is over."
