Chapter eighteen part three

Shopping Trips

One of the best parts that I found of the residential college was the weekly shopping trips that we went on. This was so that we could practice our budgeting and mathematic skills by buying all the essentials that we needed for the week, I.E, shampoo etc.

The way the budgeting worked was that we'd write down everything that we needed and then guess how much it would cost; then dd up the total and take the amount out of our banks. So if it costs five pounds we would have to take out ten pounds because you can't get five-pound notes out, etc.

The main problem was that they let ll of the skinny people, like AC, buy what they wanted when it came to buying sweets and cakes etc and then look at the fat people, like me, like "are you sure you want to buy that..." And so on...

We had mini cards that we got given in the beginning of the year, saying our weigh and BMI and then what our weight and BMI should be. They'd weigh us regularly and it was hell!

So all the thin people or the people with an okay weight could buy a car and a drink and the fat people like me could only have a drink OR a cake.
