69 69. Soo gullible

"Oh crap!!", Lara cursed loudly while looking at her phone.

Lara was checking the weather report on her phone. Just as she keyed in the location, a series of news headlines caught her eyes.

'Heavy rains expected in Country A…'

'A thunderstorm strikes the capital city of Country A…'

'The roads are blocked in the city due to heavy rains…'

'The meteorology department predicts the rains to last for over four hours…'

Everyone present in the room turned to look at Lara. She never really used any curse words unless it was something serious.

"What happened Lara??", Marina asked her.

"The weather is going to become ugly… Reports suggest that the rain is going to last for over four hours… And all the roads are blocked as well….", Lara replied in a worried tone.

"Damn it!!", Sarah cursed loudly.

"Couldn't it rain a day later??... Our night is ruined… Ugh…", George said in a frustrated and dejected tone.

"So how are we supposed to return home??", Ryan asked in confusion.

"Driving during heavy rains is not safe.", Liam commented out of nowhere, garnering everybody's attention.

For a moment, all of them had completely forgotten about his presence in the room. Sarah and George covered their mouths in shock, realizing that they just cursed in front of their boss, the devil CEO of Page industries.

"Now what will we do?? The power is out and no one can go out either…", Maria said in a sad tone.

"Don't worry about that…. I have some board games… How about we play for a while???", Lara asked curiously.

"Great idea. I can refresh my skills in board games...", Miles said with a smile.

In an instant, everyone's attention was on Miles. The Vice President of Page industries knew to play board games??

"You used to play board games, Mr. Vice President??", Sarah asked curiously. Everyone in the room except Liam turned to look at Miles, waiting for an answer.

They found it very amusing that even after being from a rich family he found time to play games while learning all the etiquettes and other elegant arts that the rich were expected to know.

Even Maria was amused and wanted to know if he actually played games.

"Yes, of course I used to!! I loved playing board games and would often emerge as the winner… I just lost a bit of practice during college since there was quite a load to study", Miles replied with a proud smile.

He intended to use this opportunity to show Maria that he could also be a good company and wanted to create a cheerful and lovable image for himself. But amidst this, he forgot that a person who knew him like the back of his hand was also present there.

"I have never seen you play any games before, let alone board games… The only game that you used to play was Ludo and you always lost in it… And you always ran away crying after losing the game saying that we cheated…", Liam said in a calm tone.

Just as usual, Liam was there to pour a bucket of cold water on him at the wrong times.

"Pfft…"

The others burst out laughing the moment they heard what Liam said. Liam so coolly ratted out Miles in front of everybody.

Miles's smile froze when he heard what Liam said. He glared at Liam. First of all, the guy was only here because he had informed him otherwise he wouldn't have even known about the party. Then he comes and easily shifts all the blame on him.

And having not done enough already, he turned him into a laughing stock in front of everyone. Most importantly, in front of his girlfriend… Ahem… Future girlfriend.

Liam just shrugged his shoulder on receiving Miles's glare. 'You didn't even have to speak in the first place… Nothing would have happened if you had decided to keep your big mouth shut for a while.', Liam thought.

"Anyways… The games are in the basement, I'll go and get it.", Lara said before standing up while holding her phone.

"Sis… Are you sure you want to get into the basement now… It's already night time and there's a thunderstorm outside… And on top of that the electricity is down…. What if the basement's ghost attacks you??", Maria asked in a genuinely scared voice.

Lara chuckled and replied, "Are you trying to use my own story against me?? It was just a story I cooked up to keep you away from my secret stash of chocolates that is in the basement…"

"So you fooled me?? Your own bestie?", Maria stood up and asked in a very dejected tone. She wiped away fake tears and put on a sad pout.

"I didn't fool you… You are just way to gullible… I loved those chocolates a bit too much and given with your history of you sneaking in and my chocolates going right into your mouth to satisfy your extremely sweet tooth, I had no other choice", Lara replied with a smile.

"That was ten years ago!!", Maria immediately retorted.

"Yes. But I see no difference between the present Maria and the 14-year-old Maria… There is no change in you, except for a very serious increase in your stupidity...", Lara again got back at her.
