Chapter 13: Breaking Cannon ( Final )

Everything went white as our attacks clashed.

It's not long after that I realise I am falling down. With a thump, my body hit the ground. Feeling numb all over, it's safe to say that my life is more or less forfeit.

[Look ahead]

Usher Romulus. As I did, I can see Izanami is also in a bad shape. A lot of missing limbs or bones in her case. She looks hot, I mean literally, she's on fire. As her body returns to human size and her flesh starts to rot away. But I somehow know for a fact that she's far from being dead.

"End me."

She said pitifully.

"Why?"

I asked limply.

"You have won, you have proven yourself superior. This is the only way it would have ended."

Huh funny. Why the hell would I end your life, and let loose a serial killer and a bloody fake messiah. Wait, cannon is already out of the window at this point.

Izanami huh?, according to legends, her legend is quite sad. Died while giving birth, and then abandoned by his husband because of her appearance at the underworld. I guess living through that can make anybody crazy.

"Why did you do all this?"

"Huh? You have the balls to ask me why after seeing me like this? Or are you just a sadist that wants to hear a woman confess her everything after you beat her to a pulp?"

Hey hey hey, hold it there lady why the hell am i the villain now.

"Well you gods sure love to do things in a roundabout way you know?"

"What do you mean"

"Exactly what i said. You will never understand us mortals."

"What exactly don't I understand? What did I do wrong? I have done everything I can for humanity. I've given them Islands! The Moon! The Sun! Even Storms when they wish for water What have i done wrong! What did I do to deserve a husband like that! To live a life half alive, forever to burn and rot."

Yeah damn she had it hard huh. The gods are like this huh. Giving people things that they think they want. Not what they needed. Well that's also not the case, it seems like her solution is just not viable enough. Maybe the sample size is too small?

"Have you traveled the world Izanami ?"

"..."

"How long have you lived in human civilization?"

"I'll have you know I've been here for quite a long time."

"You just recently came and interacted with them after the 'long time' you've mentioned , am i wrong?"

"..."

AHA! I knew it.

"So how long?"

"2 years"

"Ummm maybe it's one year"

*staring intensifies*

"Okay okay fine I've been out just for two months"

"HAHAHAHA!"

She's pouting huh. I was gonna say it's cute but with that gruesome face, it's a hard sell.

"So, what now?"

Yes what indeed

"Let's make a bet."

The spontaneous idea came to my mind.

"Bet?"

"This little game of yours. I bet you'll lose in your own game"

"HAHAHAHA! Sure, if that's what you want! The loser will have the winner to do something? How about it? Having a goddess owe you a favour is enticing is it not? "

This 'game' as she calls it. Is the whole plot point of Persona 4. Where she is the goddess who has an aspect of the truth, has a hypothesis that humans hate themselves, and covers up their own ugliness with lies. And they in turn are happier that way. The act of lying to fit in with society , being happy and hiding behind a mask or persona is a recurring theme for the characters in this series. That, I know quite well.

So I guess that's her game, she wanted to prove that a sweet lie is better than cold hard truth. But she forgets, the bitter lie will slowly kill you as the truth will either break you or make you stronger. We humans are fragile creatures but we have intelligence, a will to grow, and an instinct to survive.

"But before that we need to set some ground rule."

Huh, quite perceptive, as I thought she's a goddess not just for show huh.

"No direct interference of any way with the players."

well that's a given. But how am I supposed to dodge Yu?

"How about if provoked or self defense?"

"Those are still against the rules, You'll have to simply call my name and i shall wipe their memory"

That sounds oddly convenient. But advantageous for her. I have to somehow control her movement too. If she can alter memories, what can stop her from sending 'divine revelations' towards the player's close ones.

"Fine, I'm adding another rule that, you also can't interfere indirectly with the players and those close to the players, like family and friends."

This is so the story will progress as default. As I believe she had no hand in any of the cases so far.

"That is agreed upon. But it seems that your chosen player has something that my player lacks. How are you gonna compensate for that."

Shit did she know about the wild card?

"And what are you talking about?"

I hope I can feign ignorance.

"He's still young, good looking and hard working, he won't need much to uncover the truth."

"Wait, we're also counting physical traits now? I mean yours have a higher position in society than mine, can act whenever he wants, and strategically in an overall better position both monetary, time and even energy wize. Not to mention a head start."

"Tch"

"Anything else?"

"I don't trust you'll be following the rules, so i'll add it just in case, that you'll have to stay close to me so i can monitor you!"

I deadpanned. You're sus, your mom is sus.

"So how do we seal the deal?"

"Can you get closer?"

I dragged my limping body closer. It's not easy in this uneven terrain, but I guess I'm in better shape than her, looking closely, her form right now is just terrible. Half of her body looks like a corpse, the other half is just a flaming skeleton.

"Come closer"

I did just that. As soon as I reached an arm length away, she pulled me with her skeletal hand, it was burning hot. But i have no strength to resist anyway. Not long after I felt a soft cold sensation in my lips.

Did she just kiss me? Nice. i NTR-ed a god.

"Now with that, our contract is made, I'll be in your care dear husband."

Wait what?

I felt something invading my body. That certain something also planted itself in what seems to be my heart. It felt a little restraining. Damn.

As I see my bloody palm that's just been pulled by her stamping a paper with my palm print. So this is her plan all along huh. The paper is now shining brightly

"It's a marriage certificate, bound by blood, unbreakable unless you want to badly hurt your soul."

I felt as if my literal life sucked out of me, and somehow before I knew it, Izanami had reverted back to her human form.
