Yami's sword flashed a little black light as he threw a black flying slash at Alex. He wasn't planning to use his magic but seeing him fighting equally he decided to test the masked guy's limit.

So, he used only 10% of his usual magic. It might be dangerous, not enough to kill him.

Alex also felt the changes but he wasn't afraid because, with his body trained to limit, he was confident about taking it on.

He grabbed the hilt of his sword and said. "Black Dragon Slash!"

A dark dragon, pitch black and more powerful than the flying slash by Alex, flew towards the black slash aiming at Alex.

*Boom!*

Both of their attacks collided in the air and a powerful wave spread in the surroundings, many cuts appeared on the ground below.

But the black flying flash was slightly more powerful as it came out on top, destroying Alex's attack and slashing his chest.

Alex flew backward and collided with a tree. The power of the slash was reduced quite a bit, leaving a light scar on his body.

"Hey kid, are you alright?" Yami approached him and touched the little cut on his cheek. This might be the first time when someone without magic was able to land a hit on him. He really couldn't help but show his concern as he really liked the style of the kid.

Alex slowly got up and nodded his head, grinding his teeth in pain.

Yami lit a cigarette and took a puff from it. "Kid, what's your name?"

"It's Asta," Alex replied as he removed his mask.

"From today onwards, you're a member of Black Bulls," Yami said before releasing a heavy killing intent. "And I don't take no for an answer."

Alex sighed as he knew Yami's stubborn personality and said. "Alright. But you have to wait for 3 years before I officially join the squad."

"Hmm, you want to participate in the Magic Knights Entrance Exam?"

"Yes. After all, I made a promise to someone." Alex said seriously.

Yami stared at him for a few seconds. "Do whatever you want. But if you don't come after 3 years then I'll kill you."

Alex's face twitched after hearing his logic. "Okay, captain."

Yami nodded and left the place after dumping the hunting responsibility on Asta.

"It seems you have found something interesting."

Seeing Yami present during the exam was already very surprising for everyone. Fuegoleon couldn't help after seeing Yami smile like that.

Yami took a puff of his cigarette before saying. "Yep. The boy over there with the sword, I'm here for him."

"Oh," Fuegoleon, William, and Charlotte were a little interested after hearing that.

Yami ignored their reaction and smiled as he lightly caressed the cut on his face. "He can land a hit on me even without using magic."

This sentence was enough to shock all the captains.

"Hmph, only someone like you can let such a thing happen," Silva said in a mocking tone.

Yami ignored him as he never put him in his eyes.

"Oh, such a strong warrior, I would love to have someone like him in my squad." Fuegoleon smiled lightly and said with a little admiration. He might be the only captain except for Yami who didn't care about status.

Yami humped as he said. "Like hell, I would let you do that, Fugleon."

"But I can't sense any mana from him." William furrowed his brows as he said. "Well, let's first start the exam."

He stepped forward and said to everyone. "We will now begin the Magic Knights Entrance Exam. We will now have you all take several tests. The nine of us will evaluate your performance, and then we will select the candidates that we would like to add to our squads. If chosen, you will join that squad. If you're chosen by more than one squad, you may choose the squad you would like to join. On the other hand, those who are not chosen by any captain are not qualified to join."

Then William took out his grimoire and read a spell. "Magic Tree Descent."

Suddenly the sky went dark and the roots of a tree started to descend towards the ground.

The roots descended to the ground and then changed into brooms.

"But that's..."

"I've never done that before."

"Mages who can control their Magical powers should be able to do this instinctively. It is the most basic way for mages to travel. If you cannot fly on a broom, you shouldn't even be here." William said with a serious expression.

"So, let's begin!"

Alex smirked as he cast float magic on himself, his body rising to the level of Yuno. He was the only contender who didn't need any broom to fly.

The others were surprised to see him flying so effortlessly.

The exam then continued with the examines performing various tasks. He passed them all very easily except for creating something with magic or letting a seed grow by using magic.

"And now it's time for the final event. A one-on-one spar!" William addressed everyone.

Fuegoelon stepped forward this time and said loudly "Prepare for the duel. You're free to choose your partner. Fighting is our duty. Could you show us your true abilities? You may use your grimoires to attack. Show us what are you made of!"

Alex sighed and walked over to the center as he knew it would be going to be troublesome as not a single present was enough for him to fight seriously.

"Hey, what the hell with him?"

"Is he the one with the five-leaf grimoire?!"

Asta ignored them and unsheathed his sword.

*Pang!*

He sliced at the ground and created a big crack on the floor, a heavy killing aura radiating from him combined with his dragon's fear.

"I'm giving you all an open challenge. Is there someone who wants to fight me?" Alex said and glanced at others.

But none of them dared to make eye contact with him.

'We are not insane enough to fight with such a monster!' After seeing him slicing the ground like butter, the others were scared.

Alex waited for a few seconds but not a single one stepped forward. He sheathed his sword and walked to the side.

Even the captains were a little taken aback by Alex's aura just now. Despite not feeling an ounce of mana, they could still feel themselves trembling under his pressure.

"Huh, what the hell just happened?" Finral was dumbfounded by the scene and couldn't help but ask.

"Intimidation!" Yami took a puff of smoke and continued. "He intimidates everyone here with his strength. So, no one dares to fight him!"

'I might hit a jackpot this time!' Yami smiled as he thought.

Fuegoleon couldn't help but praise. "What a strong fighting spirit! He didn't even use magic but still scared everyone... Now, I really want him on my squad."

"Hmph, I don't mind cutting a lion right now," Yami said.

Charlotte said with a sigh. "Stupid men and their pointless fight "

William stared at Asta and said. "He is a little interesting. However, I'm more interested in his magic. I can't sense any mana fluctuation from him."

Jack said with his usual laughter. "Ku Ku Ku I really want to slice him, now "
