My Life as Naruto Uzumaki - Harem Version

Chapter 56: Exams Part 1

-----------------------------------------------

[Third Person POV]

While Naruto had a staredown with the disguised Orochimaru, his companions were examining the occupants of the room intently, picking out the elite from the rabble. Shikamaru paid extra close attention to the Sand Team, not just because he couldn't get Naruto's words out of his head, but because he was trying to figure out what kind of opponents they were.

He could tell that his person of interest was a wind user by the giant battle fan strapped to her back. One was likely a puppet master, given the large bandaged object strapped to his back. It was the third one, the most dangerous one, that he had no clue what to expect. He had a giant gourd on his back, so likely some type of object manipulation, but what? He had yet to determine.

Ino and Sakura picked out the weakest teams to get rid of, Kabuto's team among them. They'd worked with him many times before in the hospital, and to say he was more than a little interested in their unnatural growth spurt was an understatement. Thankfully the girls were able to avoid him and reach higher-ranking positions within the hospital before anything could potentially go wrong.

It seemed that even before he was unearthed as a spy, none of the girls trusted him all that much. Tsunade was convinced by Naruto earlier on in her reign that the hospital's security needed to be ironclad, and measures needed to be put in place so that information leaks from there were virtually impossible. Brand new procedures and surveillance systems in restricted areas accomplished this to more than just the desirable standard.

But back to the present situation, the members of Naruto's group were slowly getting a feel for who could potentially be a dangerous individual, and everyone eventually gravitated towards the disguised Orochimaru. Throughout their entire time here, Naruto had been having a staredown with the creepy chick, so they knew he was going to be handling the problem.

It made all of them feel better, since Naruto's posture, though challenging, was relaxed. He wasn't on edge or nervous. He picked out a dangerous opponent and still looked like he was getting ready to beat down some bandits. The girls internally swooned, keeping up their guards and maintaining vigilance on all of the other participants.

-----------------------------------------------

The Sound Team was on edge, they were told by Orochimaru's next vessel that if they made themselves an issue for the leaf, that they would be killed without so much as a warning from their attackers. They thought she was just being clever and trying to get under their skin. Orochimaru was also infiltrating the exams to scout potential weaknesses, so they were confident that they would be safe.

But now, the blonde guy with the dark burnt-orange jacket and weird chest plate armor was staring at their master straight in the eye with a look that projected power, experience... promises of destruction. The other people around him were easily just as terrifying, each of them giving off the air of seasoned jonin and experienced killers.

What the hell was up with Konoha's genin?!

-----------------------------------------------

Ibiki made his usual entrance and was surprised to see the room quiet as a graveyard, then he saw Naruto Uzumaki standing with a challenging expression. He grinned, this kid could work a crowd.

The participants all took their seats and now it was Kin who was seated next to Naruto, since Hinata and her team chose to not participate this time around. They didn't have anyone who could stand in for Kiba since Tayuya was pregnant, and they weren't going to put her in the middle of a battlefield. Especially since she was going to be giving Naruto his firstborn.

Kin snuck glances at Naruto from the corner of her eye, she'd been told that he was the strongest genin in the Hidden Leaf, and now that she was sitting next to him she could feel it. There was an air about him that just screamed power. But she was cautious of him, she had a weird feeling in her stomach when she looked at him, and she took it to mean he was dangerous.

Ibiki looked around to make sure everyone was seated and explained the rules of this test. There were protests, but Ibiki knew what he was doing, and just used this as an opportunity to reduce casualties.

The test was structured in the same manner as in canon. The differences were in how our hero passed this portion of the test.

[MC POV]

I stared at the paper in front of me with disbelief. This exam was ludicrous, no way was he going to not pass this test. But I wanted to do it right, just answering the questions defeats the purpose of the examination.

I always wanted to try and get the answers with just the standard techniques, but smart as I was, I just couldn't come up with anything clever without shadow clones. Then I remembered that I had a particularly useful technique I could use for this and put a plan into action.

I used my Area Scanning to map out the room, then pinpointed the chakra signatures that were above genin level, ignoring the really high ones. I found the planted chunin hidden in the room and made a hand sign under the table. "Genjutsu: Humming Tune"

It's a technique that works by using my chakra to create vibrations in the air that I can direct toward any target. Once the vibrations reach the target, it puts them under a subtle genjutsu that makes them want to hum. I can then alter the vibrations to give instructions. The ones I gave the chunin were simple, 'hum your answers in descending order'.

The humming is inaudible to anyone besides me and the target only remembers wanting to hum silently to themselves. Making it great for espionage and info gathering from high-value targets and dangerous individuals.

I then copied everything from the poor chunin and promised to send him a signed copy of Sensei's new book, co-written by me and Kakashi. Kakashi and I are under pen names, though.

I noticed Kin giving me an appreciative look; seems she found me out, and I decided to test my luck and put my hand on her thigh. Sexual harassment by all accounts; I do not condone this under any circumstance.

But I saw that she was affected by the Love at First Sight Condition, which essentially made it so that romantically inexperienced, emotionally starved, or repressed individuals were more easily swayed romantically by bold actions of romantic or sexual interest. It also only worked if that person had an interest in the individual taking the actions; romantic or otherwise.

So, I took the plunge, and luckily for me, she was receptive. She shimmied a little closer to me in her seat, opening her legs; asking me to move my hand further inward. I was a little reluctant, but when she gave me a pleading sidelong glance I stopped hesitating and did as she wanted.

I fingered her for the rest of the hour.
