"Vol, be careful," Penelope said, as she closed the wound to Vale's lip with the smallest amount of purple flame, and then separated, to allow them to battle again.

"You can't overwhelm me in strength," Vol said, before they reengaged. "You ought not even try."

"Very well, Lord Commander," Vale said, taking the advice. She began her attack again, with a series of lighter blows that were far more numerous in volume. Vol nodded. He blocked each one with merely his axe, but it was a far more difficult feat than it had been before, with how many strikes there were.

Eventually, though, the result was the same. He soon enough saw through her rhythm, and was able to deliver a particularly hard parry that sent her sword flying from her grasp. This time, a boot to her leg swept her off her feet, and an axe was levelled at her throat a second later.

"Up," Vol said.

Vale hopped up, but winced from the pain at her leg.
