'Yes!' He growled to himself, clenching his fist, his face stained in blood. "YES!" He roared aloud this time. This was possible. That's what he saw in all the corpses by his feet. It was possible indeed. They had strong enough might to force their way through. If they continued this pace it was doable.

His instincts still warned him of the impending danger, but now as strongly. They could feel a fire beginning to grow, and they acknowledged all that he was beginning to build. It was possible – that was the most important thing.

His men were fighting better than he'd ever seen them fight. Vale was one thing, rushing back and forth, always within range of the wagon that held Penelope. She fought like the wind itself. Hers was the strength of a woman that was still in the midst of progress. She was like fast-flowing water. There was no wall that could yet contain her.
