1 Chapter 1 - Transmigration (1) [Edited]

"In A Fictional World!" is spoken out.

'As the protagonist' is thought.

<With Ability Creation!> is spoken by non-human beings.

[Level Up!] is a pop-up message or the holographic screen content.

That time, I thought I would wake up in my bedroom as usual when I opened my eyes, but reality can be further than your desire.

A quick glance around me showed that I am not in my room. All I could find was endless white space.

'Where... am I?' I wondered in my mind as I lay on the floor.

<You've finally woken up. I've been waiting for you. Very well, let's get this over quickly.>

I was started and spooked by the disembodied voice that suddenly spoke to me. It, the voice, sounded androgynous, making it difficult to guess the gender of its owner.

Just as I was about to answer, the voice spoke, and I decided to listen to it quietly, hoping that it would explain what is going on here.

<I wonder why others like me like to send ordinary humans to other worlds with superpowers. Hence, I randomly chose an ordinary human to help me with a small test. You're that randomly chosen human. I will send you to another world of your choice with a superpower you desire.>

'This suddenly seems like the beginning of a fanfiction I read in my spare time.' I thought once the voice finished speaking.

In such fanfiction, protagonists are often ordinary people from my world, who have dissatisfaction with their lives for various reasons, and get a chance to go to another world with superpowers that make them prosper in another world... If the creators don't make them stupid for the sake of plots, of course!

Speaking of such fanfiction, I like reading them in my spare time. Still, I don't just read fanfiction haphazardly because I don't want to waste my precious time on something with a bad plot or unsatisfactory presentation.

I still cringe when remembering fanfiction with cheesy plots, but what's worse than that is a fanfiction presented horribly. If those creators aren't skilled with English, they should mind spaces and punctuation marks at the very least!

Just remembering that kind of fanfiction makes me really pissed off! I got a really nasty headache reading that kind of rubbish in the past!

Can you believe that?! I read fanfiction to relax in my free time, not to get frustrated!

But, enough about that. I can't deny the fact that I love fanfiction like that, the wish fulfillment ones, and even dream of experiencing what the main character in a story like that goes through.

To be honest, I have no attachment to my life. My parents have been long dead, I have no siblings from them, I've been living with relatives that aren't really close to me since the death of my parents, and I have no close friends or a girlfriend.

Although I'd be sad that I couldn't continue reading and watching my favorite unfinished anime, manga, and light novels, I won't hesitate to discard them all if I get the chance to go to another world with superpowers that will make me prosperous there. Alas, I know that's not possible.

After all, fantasy is so attractive for us, people who aren't satisfied with their lives, because it's impossible to attain in the real world. It's human nature to yearn for something they can't have, and I'm not different from ordinary humans since I, myself, am one.

'But...what if this all is real?'

That kind of thought flashed through my mind, and it stuck like a stubborn stain. Hence, I decided to treat this as a real thing despite its impossibility.

If this is just a lucid dream, I won't have lost anything precious. However, if this is real, my life would change drastically... Hopefully, for better.

I stopped my pondering, stared into the empty space in front of me, and questioned the voice, "About my wish, does it have a limit?"

<You can't ask to be as strong as I am or stronger than I am.>

The voice answered my question.

'As I expected.'

I thought that while unconsciously nodding my head in understanding. It would be strange if there was no limit for my wish.

After that, I asked that voice again, "If I ask for Ability Creation, which is able to make abilities according to my desire with no requirement to sacrifice anything, not even energy, and with no time limit, can you grant it?"

<I can. However, it will be limited to your dimension and some dimensions above it but still below mine.>

The voice answered.

I didn't really understand the complicated stuff about dimensions the voice said. Even so, the positive answer made me happy.

"Then, I wish for that ability. Please."

I intentionally requested something overpowered without hesitation.

If my life in another world will become a story, I'm sure that my story will be boring, unless it's a light-hearted slice of life story that isn't as focused on conflict as it is in an action story.

I don't mind if I get some action once in a while, but I don't want to deal with the insane escalation that often happens in shonen series.

That kind of life where I have to fix new trouble after fixing one is too troublesome, isn't it? A peaceful slow life is better than a life full of action, suspense, and drama!

I can't understand those guys who requested not to be overpowered in another world with so many conflicts and deaths. In my eyes, those guys were either suicidal or masochist!

No matter what, safety is important. If your safety is guaranteed, you can have as much fun as you like, even going as far as challenging Gods and Demon Lords!

I'm a coward, you said? Nay, I'm just smart, or so I want to think, and if being a coward can make me live long, safe, and happy, I won't mind being called a coward!

In the end, let's see who will have the last laugh, shall we? A coward who has a long, fun life or a daredevil who dies and will be forgotten because they want to have a thrill?

Anyway, back to my wish, I stated my wish clearly because I didn't want to be scammed and gain power that wasn't what I wanted. After all, miscommunication can become fatal.

I've read many stories where misinterpreted requests can end in a disaster. I didn't want to repeat the same mistake.

<Very well, your wish is granted.>

The voice responded. After a short pause, it continued speaking.

<Now, where do you want to be sent?>

I became quiet and started thinking carefully. There were many options to choose from fictional worlds I knew.

After careful consideration, I stated my desire, "Please transmigrate me as Yuuya Tenjou in the world of "I Got A Cheat Ability In A Different World And Became Extraordinary Even In The Real World" by MIU. The time is one day before meeting with Kaori Honjou for the first time when she's harassed by those delinquents."

I chose that series because I had binge read the light novel up to the latest volume. You could consider me as a sort of fan of that work even though it had so many flaws.

As for my reason why I want to be the protagonist, well, to tell you the truth, even though I like him, his self-esteem and confidence issues annoyed me so much. Even though many volumes have been published, the protagonist's character development was very slow.

The romance, too, progressed slowly… or to be precise, it was so slow that it became so annoying. I really want him to have more confidence in himself after transforming into a Badass OP Hunk!

But, what did I get? A typical beta male lead that ruined the otherwise amazing work!

If you are curious about how I could still read it until the latest volume, well, let me tell you this: the wretched thing called hope is the reason!

I hoped that the protagonist's character would change in the next volume. However, my expectation was betrayed. Again and again.

Did that series turn me into a masochist? I hope not!

No offense to all masochists out there, but I prefer to be normal.

Anyway, if I was the protagonist of that series, I would romance, and even bed, the girls as soon as they showed romantic interest in me. Granted, it was only my humble opinion as a man of culture.

And now, I have a chance to make it a reality. I won't be a beta male lead like the original protagonist, I swear!

But, enough about that.

The voice spoke to me, pulling my attention away from my thoughts.

<Very well, your wish is granted.>

Once the voice finished saying that, the white space around me turned black in an instant.
