18 An intruder

Ariana had her dinner with Lucian but she made sure, she didn't look at him as the scene from earlier kept rushing through her mind.

Lucian too didn't bring up the topic and had his dinner silently. Once they were done both excused themselves to their respective room.

Once Ariana entered her room she shut the door and walked toward her bed. She thought after immersing her attention in her studies she would be able to skip that moment when Lucian was so close to her, but she failed.

The more she tried to forget him the more he kept appearing in her thoughts. "I have to erase everything so it won't be an awkward moment for the both of us" telling to herself, she pulled out her books and started reading.

She thought studying would help her forget everything, but the more she read instead of stopping her thoughts from thinking about Lucian, her eyelids turned heavy, and before she could realize she fell asleep.

Ariana was fast asleep when the door of her room opened and Lucian walked in. He made sure not to make a sound and quietly reached her bed.

His deep blue eyes lovingly watched the sleeping beauty as he slowly bend and sat next to her.

Lucian had abandoned his throne the moment he first dreamed of her and that was the time when he realized he wasn't an alpha without a mate. Though he sensed her presence a little late but he was glad that he did, or else he would've destroyed both his and Veronica's life.

Lucian didn't care whether she was a human or an otherworldly creature because his heart had long recognized her and that was enough for him to fight against anyone who tried to separate them.

'She was his and he would never let her leave him' The softness in his eyes turned dark in determination as he reached his hand to touch her but stopped when he sensed something unusual.

Pulling away his hand, Lucian stood up and marched towards the balcony as his ears twitched at the sound he just heard.

Frantically roaming his eyes everywhere, Lucian tried to sense the sound when suddenly a foreign smell hit his nose.

Clenching his teeth with rage, Lucian grabbed hold of the fence and swiftly jumped down the balcony turning into a huge wolf as he ran deeper into the forest.

Au...

A loud whimpering sound from the animal startled Ariana as she snapped out of her slumber almost falling from the bed.

"Ah..." jumping on her bed Ariana clutched the duvet tightly over her chest as terror marred all over her face.

"What was that" she mumbled looking all around her room when again.

Au...

This time the howling was too loud and she quickly climbed down from the bed running towards the balcony. Fret had mentioned animals trespassing on the property. She thought it must be the same intruder so she rushed to check it with her own eyes.

Standing on the balcony, Ariana roamed her eyes over the vast lawn but couldn't see anything. "I am listening to voices" she muttered rubbing her ears.

She was sure about hearing the whimpering sound of the animal but now when she looks around, she finds nothing.

Standing there for some time, Ariana spared a final glance around and once she was sure with no animal invading the property, she turned and walked inside the room but unknown to her there were these pair of dark red eyes watching her from afar as it slowly disappeared into the leaves.

"Grr.."

****

The next morning Ariana woke up and got ready to leave for college. Just like yesterday, she thought Lucian would come to drop her off since he also had a lecture today but to her surprise, she didn't see him anywhere.

In fact, at the breakfast table, Fret informed her that his master would join her directly at the Orchid's once he finishes his pending work.

Ariana found his words a little depressing but then when she thought carefully it was better that she wasn't going with him or else just like the other day, she would become the center of attention.

Picking up her bag, Ariana stepped out of the house with Mathew driving her to the Orchid. While her car was driving out of the mansion's gate, Lucian stood by his balcony and watched them leave.

His cold blue eyes fluttered a little when suddenly he felt the pain in his stomach.

Sliding away his robe a little away Lucian looked at the deep cut mark on his torso and his eyes turned even darker and dense as he recalled the fight that took place after he sprinted away from the mansion turning into a beast.

"Have you buried the body?" adjusting his robe Lucian turned and looked at Fret who walked in with a complicated expression.

Halting his steps midway, Fret bobbed his head and watched Lucian make his way into the room.

Fret was feeling his blood run dry because it was his mistake of letting someone allow inside the house without checking their background.

Lucian took the seat on the couch, leaning his back casually on the backrest, and looked intently at Fret.

"Anything you would want to tell in your defense," Lucian asked. His voice was as calm as the sea but only Fret knew that he messed up big this time.

Standing a few distances away from his master, Fret shook his head before looking down. He knew it was his fault as he almost risked someone's life which was very dear to Lucian.

"No master" came his reply.

Fret was ready to take any punishment Lucian would give him as he did a huge mistake by letting their enemy sneak into the mansion.

The man who had come to install the telephone in Ariana's room was a foe whom they had been trying to save their identity from, but Fret failed to see through his disguise and now he had to face the consequences.

"In the dungeons, now..." Lucian's deadpan voice made Fret react within a second and he turned walking out of the room.
