27 Chapter 27: The Revelation

It was one of those extravagant weddings. The usual ballroom style. One that Alexandra had always dreamt of since she was a little girl. She wanted to feel like a princess for that day.

As Alexandra stepped into the place with her arm interlocked with Caleb's arm, a soft gasp of awe escaped her lips as she let her eyes wander around, soaking in the view right in front of her.

Gorgeous white flowers decorated the huge arch by the wedding altar and tables that lined the aisle, its faint aroma lingered in the cold air.

The beautifully hand painted renaissance inspired art filled every inch of the walls, stretching to the high ceiling above them and coming to a point in the middle.

A large crystal chandelier hung in the middle of the hall, the soft yellow glow illuminating the place. She loved the way it glistened under the sunlight that was coming through the tall windows that surrounded them, adding a beautiful touch to the place.

All these while, Alexandra didn't seem to notice the whispers and murmurs that filled the air. Nor did she realise the looks that people were casting at them.

These people hadn't seen Alexandra ever. It was their first time they had laid their eyes on her unfamiliar face. Of course, they were going to gossip among themselves. Words that questioned who is she and comments on her dress filled the place.

Caleb had noticed this, however. He only grabbed her, pulling her aside to sit at one of the tables.

He leaned down, close to her ear as he spoke. "Stay here, I'm going to go get us something to drink. I will be right back."

Before she could even protest, Alexandra watched as Caleb disappeared into the crowd. She sat there quietly alone, looking around when she heard someone pull out the chair next to her.

She turned to see a girl around her age, maybe a year or two older. The girl was dressed in a long black dress as well, very much similar to hers. The girl's sleek straight blonde hair came down to her waist.

Their eyes met and she smiled at her, her lips curling up into a small smile. The girl returned the smile.

"Hey, I'm Elisha," she greeted, stretching her hand out.

"And you are?" Elisha asked this time, cocking a perfectly groomed eyebrow at her.

"Hi, I'm Alexandra," she responded, grabbing her hand to give it a shake.

Elisha leaned back into the cushioned seat. "Who are you with? I don't think I have seen you around," she asked. Alexandra was starting to feel a little uncomfortable with the way her dark green eyes scanned her up and down.

"I'm here with Caleb," Alexandra responded simply, not thinking much of it.

Alexandra watched as the smile on Elisha's face dropped almost instantly like a fire being put out by a sudden gust of wind. There was now a serious look plastered across her face. Alexandra thought that the girl looked annoyed.

"Caleb? As in Caleb Wright?" Elisha asked this time, leaning closer towards her as if she didn't believe her the first time around.

The words were stuck in Alexandra's throat as the girl continued to stare her down with her dark green eyes, a menacing look etched onto her face. Alexandra only nodded as she gulped inaudibly.

A cold chuckle escaped Elisha's lips as she looked away, emotions running wild in her eyes. "Never thought I would be replaced so quickly," she muttered to herself, but it was just loud enough for Alexandra to hear.

"What do you mean by that?" Alexandra questioned, sitting up straighter than before, her ears perking up in curiosity.

Caleb should have been back by now. But he was caught by a long-time friend who hadn't seen him in a while, clueless as to everything that was going to unfold very soon. His friend, Eric, had pulled him aside to catch up, asking him what felt like a million different questions.

Meanwhile, Alexandra was met with a familiar face. It was Caleb's mother, Stephanie. She was still standing up, her arm casually resting atop the chair Elisha was sitting on.

"Elisha, there you are! I was looking for you," Stephanie exclaimed, a warm smile appeared on her face.

But that smile quickly faded when Stephanie's eyes landed on Alexandra who was still sitting next to Elisha. There was this look of disdain etched onto her face as she looked down at Alexandra.

"What are you doing here?" Stephanie sneered, her eyes narrowing on her.

"Is there a reason why I can't be here?" Alexandra retorted.

"Caleb was the one who brought me here," Alexandra continued, the corners of her lips twitching upwards into a knowing smile.

Stephanie scoffed loudly. "I thought he would have dumped you by now," she commented curtly, with the sole intention of trying to get Alexandra riled up. But Alexandra could care less, she knew better than to engage with her little dramatic act.

Silence enveloped them for a while as Alexandra only looked between the both of them, an amused look on her face, forcing Stephanie to break the silence.

Her eyes flickered down to Stephanie's hand, which was now holding onto Elisha's shoulder before looking back up at her. Stephanie cleared her throat. "Elisha here, was once Caleb's lover. They had been together for almost a year. They were supposed to get married this fall."

Elisha had this smug look on her face, she knew Caleb's mother had her back. She relished in the fact that Stephanie liked her better, thinking to herself that she was better than Alexandra in every way.

"Why are you telling me all this?" Alexandra asked with a raised eyebrow as she leaned back into her seat with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Elisha will be the one marrying Caleb. I will never allow my son to be with a girl like you," she spat those words out like they were poison in her mouth, her breathing getting heavier with each minute. Elisha only held onto Stephanie's arm, soothing her.

"And what exactly is a girl like me?"

"Someone who will never be good enough for my Caleb. You are nothing but a money hungry slut, leeching off my son. Didn't think that you would be so shameless as to get back together with him after breaking his heart."

The sound of the legs of the chair scratching against the old wooden floors screeched in their ears as Alexandra stood up from her seat, her eyes never once leaving Stephanie's.

"But guess what? He still chose me over her."

"You…you…" Alexandra could hear Stephanie stuttering behind her.

But she didn't spare the pair another glance but simply turned around to walk away. There was only one thing on her mind at that point in time. All she wanted was to find Caleb.

She found herself wandering around, her eyes scanning the place quickly. From the corner of her eyes, she spotted him. Standing at the other end of the ballroom, laughing and talking to another guy next to him.

She squeezed through the crowd, pushing past a few people, ignoring the nasty looks and comments thrown at her. She was just about to walk up to him when she heard her name left the tip of his tongue.

She didn't know why but she had hid herself behind a pillar, just near enough to hear them but far enough to stay unnoticed.

Caleb's deep voice reached her ears as she peeked out from behind, her eyes fixated on his back.

"Alexandra is a nice girl," Caleb said as the guy next to him only nodded in agreement.

"But I don't know…" he drawled.

At that time, she hadn't know it yet, but the next few words that would come out of Caleb's mouth would cause her world to come crashing down in an instant.

"I think I regret meeting her."

A familiar voice reached Caleb's ears as soon as those words left his mouth. He turned around to see Alexandra standing right in front of him, hurt and anger evident in her dark brown eyes.

"Is that so? You regret meeting me?"
