35 Chapter 35 Your wife is pregnant

Zick stormed into his study room, his face a mask of rage as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He dialed the number of his men without any greeting and barked, "Did you find anything about Melissa?"

"Yes boss, though it was very hard," the man on the other end replied. "The man she is with is so powerful that we couldn't locate his address."

"Do you think I'm an idiot? Of course, I know all that " Zick spat. "Did you find any information at the hospital, or not?!"

"Yes sir," the man said hesitantly. "Your wife is pregnant sir."

Zick's s face turned crimson with anger as his pulse raced and his heart pounded.

How dare Mellisa betray him in such a way, they had separated for a month and she could not wait to have sex with another man.

" Sir, are you still there?? " The man asked over the phone. " What do we do about her? "

Zick snapped out of his daze, his voice forceful and determined. "Follow her and if you find a chance, I want you to kidnap her. Once you have her with you, call me immediately," he commanded, his words heavy with meaning. "I will not allow you to give birth to that illegitimate child that you are carrying. You are my wife. Mine alone," he declared, his voice leaving no room for arguments.

...

It was already 11P.M when Maxwell and Mellisa reached home. Mellisa was already asleep so Maxwell carried her to her room and lay her on her bed and left her room heading to his study room. Reaching there he took his phone out of his pocket and made a call. Within a few seconds, the call was picked up. " Did you find out who spiked Melissa's food?" He asked.

" Yes sir, please come to the basement, I have her with me here. " The man on the other side of the call.

"Ok, " Maxwell said, hung up the call, and left the study heading to the store room. Reaching he opened the door and entered and closed the door behind him. The store room was neat and orderly, with shelves lining the walls and aisles in between them. The shelves were filled with items that are all neatly arranged and labeled, from tools and hardware to canned goods and office supplies. The floor is swept clean and the walls are freshly painted a light grey colour. In the centre of the room is a large table with a few extra boxes and items that need to be organised and put away. Maxwell stepped up to one of the shelves and pressed the button. The center of the shelf slid open, revealing a staircase that led down to a secret basement. Only Maxwell and his trusted men were aware of its existence; there was no need to enter the house to get to the basement, as it had its entrance outside with its road.

The basement was a dreary and dismal place, illuminated only by a few dimly lit lanterns. The walls were made of cold, grey stone, and the shelves were lined with an array of guns, knives, and other weapons. It was a disturbing sight, to those who had a small heart.

In the centre of the basement was a girl who was seated on a chair with her hands tied behind her a chair, surrounded by men who wore black suits and black glasses and pointed guns at her.

Maxwell strode up to the waiter, his face a mask of icy contempt. "Who asked you to spike Mellisa's food?" he demanded in a chillingly cold tone, sending a shiver of fear down the waiter's spine.

"It was Mr. Zick Nadia's girlfriend," the waiter pleaded, hoping against hope that Maxwell would show mercy. "I'm sorry, please forgive me."

Maxwell paid no attention to her words, instead turning to his men. "Cut off the hand she used to mix the drug on the food, fry it and feed it to dogs," he commanded in a voice that brooked no argument.

The waiter let out a heart-wrenching scream, tears streaming down her face. If only she had known the consequences of her actions, she would never have done it. But it was too late now.

The next day. …..

Mellisa opened her eyes to a ray of sunshine streaming through the curtains and the beautiful singing of birds outside. She sat up in bed, stretching her body and rubbing her eyes.

"Good morning," Maxwell greeted her from the chair next to the bed, a tray of food in his hands. His tone was a little indifferent.

"Good morning," Mellisa replied, raising an eyebrow. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm not here for you," Maxwell replied, his expression unreadable. "I brought breakfast for my babies. You said yourself there's nothing between us, so why should I bother coming here for you?" His tone indicated a gripe about the topic.

Mellisa bit her lip, realizing that her words had offended Maxwell yesterday. She couldn't help but feel guilty for all he had done for her, and she was filled with regret for being so ungrateful. "I'm sorry..." she began, but Maxwell cut her off.

"Save it," he said. "There's nothing between us, so you don't need to apologize." He placed a tray of food on her bed and left the room.

Mellisa felt a sharp pang of guilt in her throat. Maxwell had only ever done well for her, even making a mistake to save her life, yet she had pushed him away. She ate her breakfast and then went to the bathroom to shower and change into a simple denim skirt, blue top, and white sandals. Feeling refreshed and content with her look, she left her room.

"Melissa is coming," Linda whispered as she grabbed her bag and rose from her chair. "She knows the truth about her pregnancy and Dad said she was furious that the truth was hidden from her."

"What?!" Michelle exclaimed, jumping up from her chair. "I'm off to work too, bye!"

"Come on," Shina said, "the driver will drop you off at work."

The three of them ran out of the house, but Melissa stayed quiet, wanting to talk to Maxwell. She asked the maid who was clearing the table, "Good morning, ma'am, have you seen Mr. Maxwell?"

The maid bowed her head and replied, "Yes, ma'am, he is in his room next to yours." With that, Melissa smiled and ran off to find Maxwell, ready to talk.

Melissa's eyes widened in shock as the sight that welcomed her met her gaze. Her cheeks turned a bright shade of red as she saw Maxwell standing there, with only a towel wrapped around his waist, his bare chest on full display. His hair was still wet, and drops of water were dripping down his chest. Her heart started racing as her eyes fell on his toned stomach. When she looked up at his handsome face, she felt her throat go dry. She couldn't believe someone could look this good! It was almost like the actors she saw on television!

'Oh my goodness!' Melissa thought to herself.

"I.....I'm sorry for not knocking," she said quickly, before turning around and running out of Maxwell's room.

Maxwell had a mischievous smirk on his face after Melissa left, clearly knowing that she was going to look for him in his room. He quickly came out of the bathroom as soon as he heard her footsteps, and it was clear that he had something up his sleeve. In a low voice, he murmured, "If I can't make you fall in love with me soon, I can make you desire me, and I know that you won't be able to resist me at all, so get ready Mellisa. This is only the beginning."

Maxwell finished getting ready and headed downstairs, where he found Melissa sitting on the couch. Her cheeks were still flushed, and her heart was beating so fast that she was taking deep breaths to calm down.

"I'm done, let's go," Maxwell said indifferently.

"Where are we going?" Melissa asked, her voice trembling.

"To register our marriage," Maxwell replied. "Of course. Our marriage is the most unique marriage I've ever heard of."

"I-I'm," Melissa started, but Maxwell cut her off.

"Save it. Come on, let's go. Don't forget that your client will be here at 2 p.m. I'm sure you don't want to be late.

Both Maxwell and Mellisa left for their marriage registration.
