3 Chapter 3: First Fishing

6 Months later

Japan - Hosu City

At the city's border, in a small park situated at a lake, you could see a small green-haired boy fishing with a normal-looking fishing rod.

At first glance, there is nothing abnormal about this situation

It would only get weird if you knew the lake's situation.

As many of the signs near the lake already tell, the lake was artificially created, and there isn't any fish life inside of it.

The lake was completely empty of any life that somebody could capture with a fishing rod.

Besides the boy stood a middle-aged woman with green hair, looking with interest at the lake, seemingly waiting for the kid to catch something.

If you didn't already know, the mother and son pair were Izuku and Inko, who were ready to use Izuku's new quirk for the first time in six months.

Just yesterday, the new spot of Izuku's quirk refreshed, and it was set to this lake only two hours away from them by train.

The passerby already told them that there were no fish in that lake, but they already knew about that fact, so they thanked them but said it was okay.

They gained some weird looks but nothing too outrageous.

After sitting there for 5 minutes, Inko couldn't help but ask her son.

"How long will it be until something comes?"

"Well, it should be between 2 and 10 minutes," Izuku answered excitedly. He was excited to see what would come from the beginner draw they used.

Today, they planned to do three beginner, two intermediate, and one advanced draw, and with that, they would use all of their savings.

It was lucky that his mother instantly found a job as a cashier in a local supermarket near them.

After six months of almost saving all of their money and only buying the most necessary things, they finally saved enough for what they would fish today.

Even Izuku earned some money with the work he had done in the neighborhood. It wasn't much, but combined with the many work hours he put into it, he also gained at least one intermediate draw for himself.

So, in the end, Izuku paid for the Intermediate and beginner draws and his mother for the discounted advanced draw.

Before they could talk further, an excited voice suddenly sounded beside them.

"What are you doing here? Do you know that there are no fish in there to catch? Did you also know that this lake was created by two heroes in the past? It is said that after they fought against a villain, this spot was so devasted that the government decided to make it into a park. They created this lake and then seeded the surroundings. After that, a hero with a plant quirk fastened the growth rate of the surroundings, and BOOM, the park here was created. Isn't that interesting? Considering you already know there is no fish in there, does it have something to do with your quirk? Like a fishing quirk? Doesn't that sound interesting? Will it fish some fish out of the lake even though there is nothing in it, or can it catch something different like the water, and you train it so you can get stronger? By the way, you both have the same hair color. Are you mother and son?" They heard a chippy girl's voice rapidly saying to them.

Trying to answer one of her questions seemed hard, considering she spoke without stopping, which made Izuku confused. Inko just smiled at the small, lively girl in front of her.

Looking back at the girl who was talking to them, they could see a small girl with long blue hair and blue eyes skipping to them. She seems older than Izuku but not that much, maybe two years?

Ignoring the questioning looks she got from the mother-and-son pair, the girl sat beside Izuku and looked into the water, seemingly waiting for him to catch something.

Having had no contact with any girls in the past, Izuku couldn't help but blush when she sat right beside him, almost touching his shoulder.

Looking back at his mother with a questionable expression, he could only see a teasing smile forming on her lips while looking at him with some expectation.

He didn't understand what her expression meant, but Izuku didn't like it.

Turning again to face the water, Izuku couldn't stop stuttering while answering her question.

"We….ll, y.. yes, I have a fishing q…uirk."

"Isn't that interesting? What can it do? My quirk's name is Wave Motion! It's an emitter quirk, and I can send out cool golden spirals of energy. By the way, my name is Nejire Hado, and I'm thirteen years old. I live in a small village near here." She said while playing with a golden energy spiral in her hand.

"My name is Izuku Midoriya. We are from Musutafu, and I am eleven." He said lightly, still blushing but with a less stutter this time.

Before anyone could talk further, the lake in front of them suddenly appeared to change. The changes were fast; the whole lake suddenly transformed into a field of stars, and his fishing rod caught onto one of the many stars displayed in the lake.

Under the fascinated eyes of Nejire and his mother, Izuku suddenly pulled his fishing rod up. After the star was out of the water, the starfield display once again faded, and only the star on Izuku's fishing rod showed that the former scene wasn't a bizarre dream or illusion.

And even that star didn't need long before it popped into nothingness, only to appear in Izuku's inventory a second later with a pop-up notification.

[Congratulations, you used a Beginner bait and successfully fished: Beginner strengthening Pill.]

[Beginner strengthening Pill: Instantly enhances the consumer's body (small amount).]

Pulling the pill out of the inventory, Izuku looked at the fascinated Nejire and explained.

"My quirk is called world fishing, and I can fish things from our or other worlds," he explained to Nejire, even though he and his mother had already decided to hide the fact about his quirk for the moment.

'Am I stupid?' Izuku thought to himself seconds after he described his quirk to the girl he just met.

He knew the illusion would be shown to anyone nearby, and others could see it, but they would never know what his quirk does, and most would think it is an illusion, so why did he explain it to the girl he had just met? He didn't know himself.
