Tough Enough
'The U.A sports festival. I've watched it every year. The nation's top heroes will be there to scout. We could potentially become sidekicks and maybe go further to being a solo hero.' I thought before Aizawa continued to speak. "Show the pros what you're made of here, and you'll make futures for yourselves. If you're hoping to become a hero, this is an event you can't miss." He told us as class the bell rang for lunch. I didn't get up though. I was still on the idea of being in the sports festival. Then Ochaco came up to me. "You still upset about earlier? Sorry for getting everyone involved." She told me she looked really embarrassed. "No, I really appreciate it, I'm just concerned with the sports festival. The sports festival always has combat type events. You think I should withdraw?" I asked her finally stand up.
"Withdraw!? You don't have to go that far. You've held up till now. Maybe you can finally let loose." She told me sitting on a desk. "You sure? I like this place, so many cool people with even cooler quirks. I don't want to mess it up with them." I told her grabbing my backpack. "They'll be heroes all around that place if anything happens they'll step in. And we have two weeks to get ready for it, so let's DO OUR BEST!!" She yelled out before turning around and putting her fist in the air and telling everyone that she'll do her best. I joined in the fist pumping although still thinking. 'Let loose huh, do my best. Two weeks of training. Gotta keep it together.' I thought to myself before letting out a sigh before we headed off to lunch.
On the way Midoriya asked Ochaco why she wants to become a hero. "Money?! You wanna be a hero for the money?!" He confusingly asked her. "That's the goal in a nutshell." She said before she explained her family circumstances. But then they asked me. "Me? well when I want to be a hero because when I was a kid I grew up in a not so nice neighborhood. There were people around there with quirks that gave up on being a hero because they thought there was no better than being quirkless. I was saved by a hero that quirk at first glance wouldn't seem all that great but she made it special. I told them as we made our way down the hall. "Who was she?" Midoriya asked.
"The Bunny Hero Mirko. She is my hero, I'd be dead if it weren't for her so I devoted my life to do that same for the other kids out there like me. Not just save them but help them when they feel at their lowest. So yeah I'll be a hero that people can depend on in the worst situations." I told them leaving them a bit taken aback. "I misjudged you Christan, That was very well said. I apologize I believed you were nothing more than a slacker." Tenya told me before apologizing profusely. "Yeah I had no idea you idolized Mirko, have you seen her since then?" Midoriya asked me. "Not physically, but I've seen articles and news on her, one day I'll get to thank her for what she did for me." I told them before All Might quickly appeared from around the corner and asked Midoriya if he wanted to have lunch with him. They walked off as we continued to head to lunch.
"I wonder what he wants with Deku." Ochaco said as we got to the lunch room. "Probably because he dashed in to help All Might during the villain attack. He's probably in trouble or something." I told them as they sat down and ate before we headed back to class. At the end of class there was a massive crowd of students I had never seen before just standing in the hall. "What're they here for?" Mineta said, looking pretty nervous. "To scout out the class that survived a villain attack. Makes sense they'd want a look before the festival. But no point though. Move aside cannon fodder" Bakugou stated as he stood in the doorway before a guy with crazy purple hair walked out of the crowd and said that this festival is a declaration of war.
Bakugou didn't seem to care like usual and shoved them out of the way and walked after telling us he's heading for the top. 'Of all people to wake me up and remind me that this is my chance to get noticed and show my stuff.' I thought as I too got up and walked through the crowd and walked home. Two weeks of training went by so fast. I was so ready for this festival, until I got a call from my family. I didn't tell anyone but turns out they'll be coming to the festival to see me for the first time in five years. This gives me even more motivation to do my best. Before I knew it I was standing in the middle of a massive stadium with an even bigger crowd.
"And now your class representative is from class 1-A Katsuki Bakugou will state the Athlete's oath." The R- Rated Hero Midnight told us. He got on the stage and said that he's gonna win causing everyone to naturally get angry at him since he represents all of us. "Now without delay let's get the first event started. The first event is an Obstacle Course Race, this will be a four kilometer lap around the stadium between all eleven classes. She told us as we prepared to begin. I felt sweat run down my face as I saw the lights rock down from red to yellow. 'You can finally let loose.' I remembered what Ochaco told me as the light changed to green as everyone ran through the open gate. Since I was near the front I noticed Todoroki ahead of everyone. He froze the ground so no one could move but I used my work to stay above the ground and push myself forward.
"Nice try Todoroki, but you're gonna have to try a lot harder!" I yelled out as I caught up to him. He didn't look surprised as the rest of our class also looked like they got passed it easily. But then I ran into something that felt like metal head first. "Ow, what the-!?" I said rubbing my head before looking up and seeing a massive robot. "The zero pointer from the entrance exam? To think they'd use that." I stated as I saw Todoroki freeze the robot and run underneath it. "Hey wait up, dude." I yelled out as I quickly pushed myself underneath it before it fell down behind me. 'Awesome, this guy's way more powerful than I gave him credit for. But I'm not weak, not anymore.' I thought as I pressed forward on foot behind him. Before we reached the second stage. It was a bunch of large stone pillars connected by tightropes. "That looks pretty deep. Echo! Don't fall in the pit. This is too easy, see ya Todor-. I started to say but he was already half way across.
Having no one to have banter with is really pissing me off. I thought as I heard Bakugou screaming from behind me. "Better start moving." I nervously said aloud before using my quirk to launch myself across the pillars until I caught up to him. "You know it wouldn't hurt to talk." I said to him as I ran beside him. "I'm not here to make friends, you heard what I told Midoriya. It may have looked like I was only talking to him but it goes out to you too, along with everyone else." He explained to me as we made it to the final obstacle. "A minefield! For real U.A you really need to stop doing this." I said as I slowly tried to make my way through them. 'I would use my quirk to launch myself but I've overused it with the pillars. I might end up settling off one of these things if I were to undershoot it. So I've temporarily deactivated my quirk to reduce the effects. My best course of action is to carefully get across.' I thought as I heard explosions getting closer and closer.
'Okay screw being slow.' I thought before Bakugou got right in between us and attacked. "DIE!!!" He screamed out as another explosion went off in my direction sending me almost falling onto a mine. Before I landed I used my quirk to push myself back to a standing position before turning it off again. 'Too close.' I said as I a massive explosion went off behind us. It was Midoriya riding a piece of robot debris above us before passing us. Bakugou jumped ahead to give chase to him along with Todoroki. I was right by them as Midoriya looked like he was going to land on the ground. But at the last second he slams his shield into the ground, creating yet another explosion the three of us had no time to react to. As the pink dust cleared I saw Midoriya, Todoroki and Bakugou ahead of me with Midoriya still in the lead. I swiftly took off using my quirk to jump up next to Todoroki and Bakugou. I ran and ran until we finally made it through the gate.
The moment I made through the gate I had to catch my breath. 'Fourth place, that sucks. Not even the top three.' I thought as I was starting to fall unconscious due to my quirk but was stopped by Ochaco who looked to have just made it in Thirteenth place. I looked up at her and looked as exhausted as I was. "You look horrible." I said before I heard Midnight say that the top forty-two will move on to the next event. Ochaco walks me over to the rest of the students. "You're okay to stand, you're kinda heavy." She said as she struggled to keep me standing. "Yeah I'll be fine, just need a bit of rest. That was too much fun, I overdid it." I said before Midnight announced the next event. "The next event is a Cavalry Battle!!"
