14 First Visit, First Experience

Mark's Rolls-Royce Sweptail pulled up in front of the office doors and Mark offed his car engine.

"We're here" Mark said as he unhooked his seatbelt and took out the keys from the ignition before getting down and walking to the other side of the car.

The four security guards standing at the door had thought Mark was going straight inside until, they saw him open the passenger seat door and reach his hand into the car

"Mark, this is embarrassing" Maria said seriously as she unbuckled her seatbelt

"You sound like my wife" Mark said

"I'll get down myself" Maria said blandly

"Are you sure? You don't seem like the type to walk in heels" he said and Maria slapped his hand away before getting down from the car and shutting the door

"That's insulting to most women. Did you know that?" Maria pointed out as she pushed some strands of hair from her face and her sea blue eyes along with the full view of her face came into view.

The security guards couldn't help staring at her face before taking in her whole appearance. Her champagne colored sheath dress had bishop sleeves and a tie neckline.

Maria stared at the car that was parked in front of the entrance

"Mark, are you sure this is fine?" Maria asked while gesturing to the car "Won't your boss get mad?"

"Don't worry about it" Mark said as he took her by the hand and led her into the building "He's already used to it" he tossed his keys to one of the security guards as the doors shut

As soon as Maria stepped into the reception area, she studied the working environment as though judging it. Unknown to her, everyone else was studying her, waiting for her reaction.

"Are you sure about this?" Mark asked "You can head on home if you want"

"I said I'd fill in for your assistant" Maria said as they continued walking towards the elevators "Plus, I want to observe things...so Helen would be more comfortable than me, when she starts working here"

"I see" Mark said as they both got in the elevator. As soon as the elevator doors shut, gossip started in the reception area.

"Who was that woman?"

"Don't know"

"She came with Mr Page and they sort off look alike"

"They're eyes are exactly the same. It's just a matter of color"

"You think it's a relative"

"He's lucky. I wish my family genes were like that"

"We've got to spread the news that Mr Page brought a relative and she'll be walking around the place today. Nobody can be caught slacking"

Floor 200

The elevator doors opened and Mark walked out with Maria beside him. They continued walking until they reached a table near the door of the CEO's office.

At the table, was a petite young woman with shoulder length espresso hair, grey eyes, beige skin and round lips painted in red lipstick. Her hair was pulled back into as low twisted bun and she wore a baby pink dress shirt and black pencil skirt with black kitten heels. Her square glasses fit perfectly on the bridge of her nose and reduced the attention her grey eyes dragged.

"Janet" Mark called out and as soon as she looked up, like a terrified cat, she jumped out of her seat and bowed to him

"Good morning sir" Janet said nervously "Is there anything I can be of help with?"

"Well, yes. I wouldn't be here if I didn't need something" Mark pointed out "I need you to give Maria here, an access pass and the list of floors in the building"

"But Master Wayne-"

"Don't care" Mark said instantly "You see, your other half is in the hospital so I brought my kids nanny to fill in for her. I don't want anything to happen to Maria while she's here"

'What do I do?' Janet wondered 'Mr Mark has brought many problems to Master Wayne but not once was a woman involved' she glanced at Maria from head to toe 'I think I can trust her. She's at least more well mannered compared to Mr Mark. She won't cause trouble....I hope'

"Sure" Janet said before sitting back down and typing away. When she was done, the printer next to her began to make some sounds before the list of floors for the building was printed out once. She took it and placed it in front of her before grabbing a pass and putting them together. She then handed both to Maria.

"There you go. Now nobody will question you when you move about" Janet said

"Thank you" Maria said as she tried to take it from Janet however, Janet held it tightly and stared at Maria in awe

'Her voice is-'

"Janet, how can she take it when you're holding it so tight" Mark said and Janet looked at her hand which was still holding the documents before she let go

"Sorry about that" Janet said

"It's not a problem" Maria said "Thanks for your help, Janet" she added before looking at Mark "Where to next?"

Mark pointed to the door behind him with a desk up front

"That's my office. The cubical in there, acts like a bedroom" Mark said "It's soundproof so use it to learn the floors. I'll call you out later" to his words, Maria stretched out her hand "What?"

"The key" Maria said

"Oh" Mark reached into his pocket and took out some keys before giving it to her. She stared at the keys before turning around on her heels and headed to Mark's office.

After Maria opened the door and entered inside, Mark turned his attention back to Janet

"Mr Mark, that woman....who was she?" Janet asked panicking "D-Does Master Wayne know about her?"

"Shhh" Mark hissed with his finger in a hushing sign

"B-But-"

"Gabriel does know her" Mark said "Well, he just knows about her...he just hasn't met her"

"What?!!!"

"Reduce your voice"

"The offices are soundproof"

"Even so" Mark said with a sigh when he noticed her calm down "Gabriel's been wanting to meet her but I never allowed it"

"Master Wayne has never wanted to meet a woman...ever" Janet said "Is she an A-list model or something?"

"Nope" Mark said "She's my kids nanny. I already told you that"

"What?"

"Calm down" Mark said "Gabriel doesn't even know that's how she really looks. He just wanted to meet her and when she volunteered to take over for my assistant, just for today, I thought 'Well, they'll have to meet someday'" he shrugged and Janet stared at him like he had gone crazy "I just need you to keep her being here, a secret from Mr Headstrong"

"It seems like I'm dying today" Janet said

"If he does find out, blame it on me. Say you had no choice"

'To all those in my family who have crossed the Waynes, it seems like I'll soon be joining you in the grave because of a family friend to the Waynes' Janet thought while looking at Mark's smiling face

"Also, if you can send all my work files to my office, I'd really appreciate it" Mark added before heading to his office

Janet's head landed on her desk as soon as Mark left 'Working with these two powerful families is not good for my mental health'

As soon as Mark entered his office, he saw Maria having a video chat with Helen. He ignored it and walked over to his desk before sitting on his chair and messing with his personal phone.

After Maria cut the call, she sat opposite Mark

"I thought I told you to enter the cubical and learn the floors" Mark said

"I already mastered the floors here and decided to send a picture of the list, to Helen"

"Your memory is just like Vivian" Mark said "It's really scary"

Maria smiled at his words before resting in the chair

"You know, I'm really jealous of you, Mark"

"Why?"

"You have a family. Something I wish I still had" Maria said "The fact you can talk about your family with so much pride, makes me jealous"

"How so?"

"My parents...are dead. And I'm an only child" Maria said "As for Helen, she said her family is dead to her. She doesn't talk about them with me"

Under the table, Mark clenched his fists as he said "I see"

The door was suddenly opened and Janet walked in with some folders

"Sorry for the intrusion" she said as she walked over to Mark's desk and dropped the files "That's everything"

"Thanks" Mark said while Maria picked up one of the documents and started reading "Maria will handle the rest"

"O-Okay" Janet said reluctantly before leaving. As soon as she got to the door, she already saw Maria standing behind Mark and pointing out some things while Mark nodded and said a couple of words. 'I think I trust the nanny more than I do Mr Mark' she thought before leaving the office.

Janet walked back to her desk in front of Gabriel's office. She noticed the red blinking light by her desk so she changed directions and instead went into Gabriel's office.

"You sure took your time, Janet" Gabriel said as soon as she walked in

"I'm sorry Master Wayne" Janet said "Mr Mark's assistant wasn't around so I had to fill in for her and deliver some documents to him"

"What happened to his assistant?"

"She was hospitalized according to Mr Mark"

"I see" Gabriel said "Tell the directors, I'll be taking a walk around the company. They should be prepared" He glanced at the documents on his table "I want to know what the hell is going on and if the reports I received are true"

"Yes" Janet said but just as she was about to leave, she remembered something and asked "Am I to accompany you?"

"Mm" he hummed and she left
