Gunshot

Gina and Maxime stayed a little longer to talk with Trevor and Max before heading home after being assured that they were fine. But before they left, Maxime took Max aside to talk to him for a bit.

"Dad, what do you want to talk about?"

"Tell me, how did you plan to deal with Vanessa if we were not there?"

"Well, put her in prison?" Max replied, looking at his father a little uncertainly. That was the only option that had occurred to him so far, what else could he have done to her?

Maxime shook his head dejectedly. "You are right, it's certainly the easier and more legal way to deal with her, but let me tell you something Max, once someone starts attacking your family and what means the most to you, they will not stop so easily. Do you really think they only intended to get you drugged and have your baby? Think of what they could have prepared for Trevor. Sometimes prison does not stop people from getting what they want. There are gang leaders who control their gangs while in prison. Being ruthless sometimes would not kill you!"

Max's head snapped up as he imagined what this mother-daughter team could have done to Trevor. If they were already able to drug people to get what they wanted, what about the people who stood in their way? His face paled a little just thinking about it. But even this way, he could not find another way to punish them. Do not get him wrong, he could definitely think of cruel ways to deal with them, but he just could not settle on them.

"So what do you want me to do, Dad?"

"It would have been enough for me to leave her there in the parking lot for all the alphas at your school to deal with," Maxime said, as it was something normal. If Trevor decided to call Sammy, it was not out of goodwill, it was because he did it for you! And I think it's sad that he had to do that because all he wanted was for her to pay for what she did to you! The fact that he thinks of you first even in that situation proves how much he cares for you, but also how your softness for people can hurt him"

"Why do you sound exactly like him? That's weird!" Max grimaced as he heard his father say exactly what Trevor had told him hours ago.

"Well, because we have had some bad experiences in life and we know what people are capable of. We do not live in a pink bubble like you, son! I really wonder what makes you like that ? Both your grandfathers, me, and your mother are not like that!"

"What are you saying, Dad? Grandfather is a big softy! Look how he gives in to pops in everything!"

"Do not mix everything up, son! Your grandfather is a softy only to his man! Even I, his son, don't get to be threatened so gently, so be wiser! And know that I will not give you my company until you change that part of yourself!"

Max had nothing more to say and only gulped at the thought of seeing all the work he had already done for the company in the hands of another person.

Once Max's parents were gone, Trevor just laid down on the couch on Max's lap in silence. He looked more relaxed than he had 2 hours ago and Max felt a little uncomfortable when he realized that he was like this because he knew what had happened with Vanessa and he was glad about it. But since he had already pissed him off about the subject, Max decided to just not talk about it anymore and completely forgot that Vanessa existed.

Meanwhile, Vanessa's mother was beside herself. She was mad at her stupid daughter who could not even manage to seduce Max with drugs, she was mad at her husband who did not take a minute before throwing her out of the house empty handed, she was mad at Gina, who she thought was her friend, but she would not even take her calls anymore even though all she wanted to do was help her son find a good wife.

To her, her daughter was perfect for Max and no one should be by his side if not her daughter. Since her daughter could not have Max now and had to live a miserable life from now on, she would just make sure no one got him. She grinned like crazy as she looked at Trevor's picture and tore it down ruthlessly.

"Hello, I have a job for you, you need to get rid of someone," she smiled devilishly on the phone, already seeing Max's miserable face in front of her as she tried to take that damn Omega from him.

The next morning Trevor felt much better, he woke up with more energy and was happier than the day before.

One thing was still bothering him, though: his mind and body were apparently not ready to let go of Max. Regardless of his will, he was attached to Max, ever since that day he craved his warmth, his pheromones, he wanted him h24 in his field of vision, he wanted him near him all the time as if, if he let go, Max would disappear from his life.

He was a little embarrassed to be so clingy, but he had no choice, he was just doing what his heart and body wanted. Max did not mind and even started to get used to his husband being so attached to him, it felt good. He started working, but at home and Trevor did the same. Since he has already done his last exams, he decided to finish his others projects at home. He was not ready to show himself as he was anyway, since he had lost a bit of muscle and could not use his body the way he wanted to. Max had really worn him down in those two days.

Thus Trevor had not been in school since the day Max was drugged. That was not good news for Vanessa's mother, who was just waiting for an opportunity to make a move. She had sent people to monitor their school since it was the only way she had to approach him.

A week later, Trevor suddenly decided to run some errands and, for the first time since he'd woken up after his heat, did not want Max to accompany him. Max thought he was back to his old self so he let him go alone, wanting his strong and reliable man back.

But only a few minutes after Trevor left the house, a gunshot was heard, startling everyone in the peaceful neighbourhood. Max's heart nearly stopped when he heard it. He immediately rushed out of the house, wearing only his pajamas and no shoes on his feet, he had never looked so haggard before, and his face paled immediately just thinking about the probability that it could be Trevor.

Once outside, his heart sank, even more, when he saw Trevor's car parked in the middle of the street. Max ran towards Trevor's car like he never had before, only to find him lying there covered in blood.

In that split second, Max lost his mind and began screaming Trevor's name like a madman.
