Chapter - 5: Do vampires have superpowers? I want them too (╥﹏╥)

----------------

As Selene led me through the mansion, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and discomfort. The sheer grandeur of the place was something out of a movie, with its opulent decorations and lavish furnishings. It was a stark contrast to my usual surroundings, and for a moment, I wondered if I had somehow stumbled into a dream.

We arrived at a colossal dining room, the kind of place you'd expect to see in a royal palace or a high-end restaurant. The table was so immense that it seemed to stretch on forever, and it was adorned with the finest china and silverware. My eyes scanned the room, and I noticed my friends Alexander and Victoria seated at the table, their expressions a mix of irritation and displeasure. Something was definitely off.

But as my gaze drifted further, I locked onto two figures that I didn't recognize. They were seated at the table as well, their demeanor decidedly less than friendly. My instincts immediately went on high alert, a knot forming in my stomach. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but there was an air of danger surrounding them that I couldn't ignore.

I tore my gaze away from those unfamiliar faces and focused on Alexander and Victoria. Their expressions spoke volumes, and it was clear that they weren't thrilled about the current situation either. Victoria's frown was deeper than usual, and Alexander's normally calm demeanor seemed to have a hint of tension.

As I took my seat at the table, my mind raced with questions. What was going on? Why were these unknown individuals here? And what did it all mean for me?

Before I could utter a single word, Selene's voice broke the silence. "Please, have a seat. We have some matters to discuss."

I exchanged a quick glance with my friends, receiving only a barely perceptible nod from Victoria. With a mixture of curiosity and unease, I took my seat, preparing myself for whatever revelations and challenges awaited me in this unexpected gathering.

As I settled into my seat, my gaze shifted back to the two unfamiliar individuals seated at the table. My initial unease didn't diminish as I took in their appearances.

The first one was a strikingly beautiful girl who appeared to be around Victoria's age. She possessed an air of elegance that drew attention effortlessly. Despite her short stature of 168cm, she carried herself with a poise that made her seem taller.

Her slim figure and pale skin were characteristic of vampires, blending seamlessly with the ethereal atmosphere of the mansion. Her long, slightly curly black hair cascaded down her back, and her dark blue-red eyes held a depth that seemed to conceal countless secrets.

The way she held herself spoke of confidence and power, and her body seemed sculpted in a way that could make any model envious. A quick assessment suggested she might be around a B cup in terms of breast size, though my mind scolded me for drifting into that territory at such a moment.

Beside her sat a waitress, a woman whose skin tone resembled rich chocolate. Her toned physique was evident even under the attire she wore, and it was clear that she took care of her body. She exuded a quiet strength, the kind that came from being confident in one's abilities. Her presence seemed to contrast the opulence of the setting, grounding it in some form of reality.

I couldn't shake off the feeling that these two individuals were more than just guests or acquaintances. Their presence was somehow intricately tied to the matter that Selene wanted to discuss. As I stole glances at them, they met my gaze with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine.

I could only wonder what role these two women played in the unfolding drama, what part they had to play in the supernatural world that was now unfolding before me. As I sat there, anticipation mingled with apprehension, and the realization settled in that my life had irrevocably changed

However, the dining room was a scene straight out of medieval castles, with an outrageously large table that seemed fit for grand feasts. Adjacent to the table stood their respective waitresses, ready to cater to the wishes of their respective masters.

As for me, I found myself seated beside my friends. The stares from around the table seemed to converge on me, as if I were the delectable main course of the evening. I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease, almost like I had stumbled into an alien world where I was the odd one out.

"I'm just a simple human being..." I thought to myself, almost as a plea to be ignored amidst these apparently "superior" races, or at least that's what I had read in those cultivation novels.

But my woes were only just beginning. The tension in the room heightened as Selene gracefully lifted a delicate glass goblet, producing a subtle sound to grab our attention.

Her gaze fixed on me, and a wicked smile was plastered on her lips. "Noah Allen, the purpose of our meeting today is to introduce you to her. Her name is Serana, you should know since you have eliminated the one who was destined to become her future fiancé."

"..."

"Fuck..." I muttered under my breath, realizing that my situation was spiraling into the realm of absurdity.

"Before you jump to conclusions," I interjected hastily, "allow me to clarify that it was purely an act of self-defense. So... it's not my fault." My hands instinctively moved forward, palms raised in a gesture of surrender, as if I were waving a white flag in the face of impending doom.

But she didn't appear to be too impressed by my words. "Human, I wanted to meet you, but now that I see you, I'm disappointed... I'm beginning to question whether Countess Selene made the right choice in bringing you here," she stated, was next to Selene and her maid.

"Oh?" Selene's gaze shifted to the young woman, curiosity evident in her eyes, as if anticipating an interesting turn of events.

"I had higher expectations for someone who managed to eliminate Nikolas. Even though he was a foolish glutton, he possessed considerable strength by noble vampire standards," she continued, her tone dripping with unmasked disdain. "But what I see before me is just an ordinary human, devoid of any power or even divine favor."

I didn't appreciate the way she was looking down on me, as if she occupied some higher realm. "And?" I retorted, my voice casual as I turned my gaze toward Serana. Seated beside Victoria, my best friend, I continued with a disinterested air, "Are you the master of this mansion?"

"No," Serana's response was concise.

"Then why the hell are you meddling in affairs that don't concern you?" I posed the question bluntly, my disinterest morphing into a clear assertion.

"..." A cold sweat broke out on Alexander's forehead upon hearing my audacious words.

Victoria and Akane maintained a neutral expression, but their barely suppressed smiles revealed their shared amusement, their lips silently teasing the woman who seemed to have bitten off more than she could chew.

Serana's face contorted with displeasure, evident through her deep frown and the visible veins that pulsed on her forehead. It was clear that she was struggling to contain her urge to lash out and perhaps even kill me on the spot.

"Well, if my presence is such a letdown, why not spare yourself the agony and simply leave? Or better yet... consult Selene and have her kick me out," I continued, my tone unapologetically defiant.

*Slit!*

In a flash, Serana's frustration culminated in the splintering of the table. Was she contemplating relocating the proceedings? It seemed improbable; after all, she was keen on establishing an alliance with Selene and disrupting that plan didn't appear to be on her agenda.

Consult Selene? I couldn't fathom her actually resorting to that. His respect for the countess was undeniable, or perhaps her was simply too fearful to approach her with such a request.

A resigned sigh escaped Alexander's lips, a clear sign of his exasperation with the situation. "Can't the two of you find some common ground?" He turned to me, he expression somewhat troubled, unable to figure out how to improve the situation between her and me.

"..."

As much as I wished for a harmonious interaction with Serana, honesty got the best of me. "It's impossible," I stated flatly.

"Agreed," Serana chimed in with a curt nod.

"She looks at me as if I were beneath her consideration, like cattle. I don't appreciate her," I stated with a wry smile that seemed to take on a darker edge. My feelings towards Serana were far from friendly; my intention was merely to establish a rapport due to my involvement in the demise of someone dear to her.

Yet, I was never one to accept being trampled upon by others. Vengeful by nature, I wasn't concerned about her noble vampire lineage or any other factors.

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and blood for blood – that was my philosophy. This worldview had taken root as I grew up, shaping my perspective on how people should be held accountable for their actions.

It wasn't about revenge, but rather ensuring consequences were faced. This principle applied to me as well; I was prepared to pay the price if I erred.

"But isn't that what you are...? A cattle?" Her tone dripped with disdain, though my expression swiftly shifted to neutral. I felt the atmosphere around me change, a tension emanating from those beside me.

"Bitch... repeat what you said...?" Victoria's presence shifted violently, causing the air to feel as if it were splintering around her. Her face contorted with anger, an expression that seemed poised to spring forth and seize Serana's throat in an instant.

But Serana remained utterly unfazed, her demeanor unyielding. A dark, unsettling energy oozed from her form, enveloping her in an aura of decay that permeated the surrounding air with an eerie sensation of death.

With a simple motion of her hand, the world seemed to wither in response. It was as though decay had taken hold, eroding the very fabric of reality.

And just when it seemed that her display was enough, a small, unassuming black sphere manifested near her, a sinister harbinger of what was to come. Within it, ominous thorns sprouted, growing with a quiet malevolence.

Before I could fully comprehend what was happening, the thorns were unleashed in a torrent, hurtling towards Victoria. It was a chilling display of power, one that left an indelible mark of intimidation.
