The moon goddess abandoned her people when the werewolves chose to live freely with the humans and married whoever they wanted. The wolves wanted to be known for their better selves and abandoned the ways of their ancestors and just like that, they lost the ability to find their fated pairs, or perhaps, they no longer had a pair they were destined to be with.

The werewolves couldn't even communicate through their minds unless they shifted into their wolf forms. In return for their rise in power in the open world, they lost a lot, all to gain supremacy amongst humans.

And just like that, the concept of destined mates disappeared.

For most, it remained something their ancestors used to have.

While for many it was nothing more than a romantic concept.

A heat is the time when the Omega is most fertile and ready to mate, or just hide away until the heat is over. If they have a mate, they will never leave their side unless they need to get their Omega food or water. Mainly, they have sex and then rest.

An omega's heat cycle can be very dangerous for a werewolf since during heat the pheromones an omega omits can cause any wolf to go into a rut.

Characters who are omegas go into some sort of mating cycle or heat. This heat can occur as often as monthly, as human menstrual cycles do, or as rarely as every five years but it also depends on a writer's preference so I'm just going to make it a monthly thing.

Yes, heat can be avoided by taking regular meds. Single people or the ones who don't have partners to accompany them during their heat take them regularly to avoid any sort of mishap.

It's best to take meds if an omega isn't marked since heat can cause an Alpha to lose their mind and can forcefully mate the omega in heat.

A "Knot" is kind of like a bulb type thing in an Alpha's penis that swells when they are aroused and keeps them locked inside their Omega during sex to increase chances of getting the Omega pregnant, this is called "Knotting"

>>>Dominant and recessive traits

Alpha and Omega's have dominant traits. The more dominant an Alpha is, the stronger his personality, looks and pheromones are.

The more dominant an Omega is, the stronger the scent of her heat is. Plus dominant omegas are prettier and more beautiful.

Being a recessive Alpha or Omega means your presence and pheromones are weaker.
