Can You Hear My Sorry?

The doctor continued talking,

"Yes Nivi, it seems June is getting confused between Chloe and Sushi. Since he's spending more time with Sushi and getting to know her better, he's starting to replace Chloe with Sushi in his memories. This is creating a mix-up in his mind, we call it as Memory Replacements: altering person's image or identity with another's in their memories.

He's trying to build a defensive mechanism by using Sushi. On one hand, this can help him live a good life, but on the other, if he struggles to fully accept her, it could lead to a mental breakdown. Just be careful, Nivi, potentially it can lead to confusion or distortion in the recollection of past events or relationships.

His case can be more dangerous than usual since both people have the same face, he might face Identity Crisis eventutally" the doctor advised.

"Are you done with your work?" June asked.

"Yeah, I handed everything over to Huan," Sushi replied.

"Can I take you home then?" June asked.

"Yeah," Sushi nodded.

"Are you still angry with me?" June asked, reaching for her hand.

Sushi looked into his eyes, the warmth in his gaze melting her heart. "June, I misunderstood the situation and got angry at you," she said.

She then took his hand and placed it on her chest, covering his ears with her hands. "Can you hear my apology?" she asked, looking into his eyes passionately.

The gesture triggered a déjà vu moment for June, bringing back a memory from his past.

In Their College Days

"Hi Chloe," June greeted Sushi with a warm smile.

Sushi ignored him, not even acknowledging his greeting. She silently walked over to the dining table and sat down to eat.

"June, you came at the perfect time. Mom called and said you'd be coming, so I was waiting for you. Come and eat," Sushi's mom said, pulling out a chair for him.

June excitedly sat down next to Sushi. But she continued to ignore him, turning her face away.

"Chloe, don't eat everything. Give some to June. Why are you eating hist strawberries? I bought those for June" her mom said.

Sushi ignored everyone, focusing on forcing herself to eat all the strawberries despite hating them.

"Chloe, don't force yourself," June said, pulling the bowl from her hands.

Sushi glared at him angrily, then stormed out of the living room and went upstairs.

"What happened to her?" June asked her mom, confused.

"She's mad at you because you haven't visited for the past two years. She kept asking when you'd be back. I told her you wouldn't come back because you've grown up and don't need her to play with anymore," her mom explained.

"Oh," June blushed, realizing Chloe had missed him. He immediately ran upstairs after her.

By the time he went upstairs, Sushi was sulking on the couch.

He sat beside her, but she turned away again. Undeterred, he moved to the other side to face her directly.

As she tried to move away this time, he gently held her hand and said, "I should have come to visit you, but Mom and Dad took me to other places for fun. So I couldn't come."

June tried to explain, but Sushi's anger seemed unrelenting.

"Look, I brought you something. I made it specifically for you in a workshop abroad," he said, pulling out something from his pocket and hiding it in his hand.

Though Sushi was curious, she pretended not to care and remained silent.

June, eager to please her, opened his hand and tied a bracelet around her wrist.

Sushi slowly looked down to see what it was, and a slight blush spread across her face when she saw the bracelet.

She looked at June with a shy smile. He lifted his hand to show a matching bracelet on his wrist and said, "I got one too, see?" He smiled warmly at her.

It seems like a couple bracelets, Sushi has the key in her bracelet, where as June earing lock on his hand.

"Do you like it?", June asked.

Sushi nodded with smile excitedly at bracelets.

June then took her hand and placed on his heart, he slowly covered her both ears with his hands and asked, "can you hear my sorry?"

The same question from Sushi brought June back from the past.

"It's my way of saying sorry to Chloe. How can she..." June got shocked and abruptly stood up without answering her, walking a few steps away from Sushi.

"What happened?" Sushi tried to get up seeing at June's reaction.

He then realized and came back to hold her, saying, "nothing."

Sitting beside her, he asked, "How can I hear it when you don't say it?" to confirm her reply.

Her response shocked him even more, "If you could feel it, you can hear it."

"Those were my words," June thought to himself, shocked.

But then he snapped back from his memories and wondered, "Did Chloe tell all of this to her? Even if Chloe did tell her, why do I feel Sushi in my past just now instead of Chloe?" June became anxious, lost in deep thought.

"June, can we go now?" Sushi asked, but June was still lost in his past.

"June!" She called him twice, bringing him back to reality.

"Yeah," he said.

"I'm hungry, can we go now?" Sushi said.

"Yeah, sure. Let me help you," he said, helping her to stand up.

He wanted to ask her a question but hesitated, expecting she might lie again.

"Should I just ask Chloe?" he thought to himself while taking her to the car. He helped her to sit and then started driving.

After a while, he stopped in front of a store, "Let me get something for you to eat meanwhile." He parked aside and went outside, ignoring her protest.

A few minutes later, he returned with something and handed it over to Sushi.

"Oh no, strawberries," Sushi looked at them with a disgusted expression.

"Eat these meanwhile till we reach home," June said, observing her.

"It's okay, anyhow we are going home. I will eat at home. You eat some since you like strawberries," she said, picking one and trying to feed him by placing her hand in front of him.

Effortlessly, he took it into his mouth, then picked up another and tried to feed her to see her reaction. "Here, have some," he said, attempting to feed her.

She almost felt nauseous smelling them, feeling like vomiting. She quickly closed her nostrils with her hand.

"What happened?" June asked immediately.

"Nothing, June, it seems it is spoiled. It smells horrible," she said.

"No, I don't think so. It looks perfectly fine. See," he said, putting that one in his mouth to show her.

He didn't want to force her, so he took them out of her hands, placed them in the back, and gave her a bottle of water to help her feel better.

He just looked at her, observing her as she regained her composure.

"By any chance, you don't like strawberries?" he asked, looking at her.

"Yeah, actually, I can't have berries. I just hate the smell of them," she replied.

He expected that answer and responded, "You both are just the same. Chloe also hates berries."

"No, Chloe likes berries. It's only me who can't stand even the smell of them," Sushi replied.

June couldn't understand. He thought, "Chloe got sick on the day she ate strawberries to get revenge on me. She suffered all night long from vomiting."
