A Long Night's Task

"Sushi, come in," June called, her voice sharp and commanding.

Sushi entered cautiously, sensing the tension in the air. "Yes, June? What can I do for you?"

June leaned back in her chair, her eyes narrowing as she assessed Sushi's demeanor. "I have a task for you, Sushi. A rather substantial one, I'm afraid."

Sushi braced herself, a sinking feeling settling in the pit of her stomach. "What do you need me to do?"

June's lips curled into a faint smirk, her mind already plotting the intricacies of her assistant's impending torment. "We have a critical deadline approaching, and I need you to take charge of it. I want you to gather all the recent data analysis reports, compile the presentation slides, and draft a comprehensive summary of our campaign performance. Oh, and I need it all by end of day."

Sushi's heart sank as the weight of June's words settled upon her shoulders. The magnitude of the task was staggering, and she knew she was in for a long night ahead. "End of day? That's quite ambitious, June."

June's expression hardened, her eyes flashing with determination. "I expect nothing less than perfection, Sushi. Do whatever it takes to get it done."

With a sinking feeling in her chest, Sushi nodded, steeling herself for the challenge ahead. "Yes, June. I'll get right on it."

Hours passed in a blur of activity, and as the sun dipped below the horizon, June's anticipation reached its peak. She knew that Sushi would be in for a long night.

After completing she emailed the presenation and messaged him saying the task is completed just to get shock from the reply.

"Sushi, there's been a change of plans. The meeting has been cancelled. The task you completed is no longer needed."

Sushi's eyes widened in disbelief, the weight of June's words sinking in. "Cancelled? But... all that work...". She realized that he decided to torture her.

As Sushi made her way out of the office, the weight of the day's events still heavy on her shoulders, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air. The empty corridors echoed with the hollow sound of her footsteps, a stark contrast to the usual bustle of activity that filled the space during working hours.

As she reached home, a flicker of light from June's room caught her attention. June lay on the couch, bathed in the soft glow of lamplight, his form illuminated against the darkness of the room. His usually composed demeanor was nowhere to be found, replaced instead by the vulnerable sight of him lying motionless, his eyes closed in peaceful slumber.

A wave of compassion washed over Sushi as she pushed open the door, the creak of hinges breaking the silence of the night. She approached June's side with cautious steps, her footsteps barely audible against the carpeted floor.

Gently, she draped a blanket over his sleeping form, tucking it snugly around his shoulders with tender care. As she smoothed the fabric over him, her fingers brushed against his hair, the soft strands slipping through her touch like silk.

For a moment, Sushi lingered by June's side, her gaze lingering on his peaceful expression. Despite the challenges she had faced throughout the day, she couldn't help but feel a sense of kinship with him in this vulnerable moment.

With a final brush of her hand against his cheek, Sushi stepped back, her heart heavy with emotion. She cast one last glance at June's sleeping form, a silent wish for his well-being lingering in her thoughts.

As she switched off the lights and closed the door behind her, but amidst the quiet solitude of the night, Sushi found solace in the simple act of kindness she had bestowed upon her husband.

As June lay on the couch, enveloped in the warmth of the blanket Sushi had draped over him, his mind wandered to the unexpected tenderness of her gesture. He couldn't shake the feeling of her presence lingering in the air, her touch gentle yet meaningful, stirring something within him that he couldn't quite name.

With a sigh, June opened his eyes, the soft glow of lamplight casting a gentle haze over the room. His thoughts drifted back to a time long ago, to a moment that had once held the promise of love and devotion.

He remembered the day of his marriage, where Chloe approached him.

"Hi June, Congratulations on your wedding..", Chloe greeted.

"Oh Chloe!! Oh Sushi!! Oh Chloe!!... sorry I don't think I recognize you anymore. Who are you by the way", his words angrily.

With a smirk on Chloe's face, "I understand June, it's reasonable for you to be mad at us. But don't misunderstand Sushi. She always loved you more than anything. You have to know so much about her, then you will realize...".

"I don't want to know. You know what Chloe, even up to yesterday I felt really guilty towards you. But I don't think you deserve that anymore. Forget about your sister, how can you do this to me. Forget about loving me, am I not even your friend for all these years...", June asked as he holding her shoulders tightly.

"June, listen, I want to tell you the truth, but it's best if you listen it from Sushi. One thing I can tell you, she loves you June", Chloe said and left.

Remembering this convesation made June wondered, "does she really loves me. Anyhow it doesn't matter to me. I will show you what is real torture Sushi. Just wait and watch", he smirked.
