It’s not that I was ashamed of my past, but I just never wanted to visit those horrifying memories again. Maybe subconsciously so, I wanted to erase them from my memory-chip forever. People say, ‘Out of sight, Out of mind’. And maybe that’s what my subconscious mind was doing, Avoiding, running away, swaddling those memories under layers and layers of fun, sassiness and sarcasm. But for some reason, I felt as if Reuben, who was so very solemn at the moment saw right through me. And I couldn’t help feeling very uncomfortable by his gaze. As if his gaze was piercing into the deepest core of my being and I had nowhere to hide. It made me feel vulnerable, weak even, and I didn’t like it one bit.

“Don’t look at me like that.” I couldn’t help saying to deter his fiery gaze.
