13 12: Assassins
After dinner Lord Fulgurn told James to come find him in the morning for his reward and asked him to please stay the night in one of the guest rooms which the head maid showed him to.
James hadn't tried sleeping yet with this body and wasn't sure if he could sleep in a bed without ripping the blankets in his sleep.

"Holy shit that's some damn good rewards, all I did was kill a bunch of goblins and free some people. Well I guess the bigger rewards are due to finding the ruined city of the Dhampir and for learning what happened to them through examining the throne, but still this is a bit much! I haven't even evolved once yet! Well it seems like as I grow stronger and evolve all my abilities will grow stronger with me so as I am it's not like I'll become all powerful without any work."

James was alerted to the creaking of floor boards outside his room and hid behind the door.
"Lets open my inventory quick."

The door opened and 2 men with black leather armor on and short swords in hand walked in really confused.
"Wasn't the lizard supposed to be in here?"
James stepped out from behind the door not taking time to ask questions and swings the axe hard cutting the first one's head clean off and knocking the second one off his feet by swiping his tail against the back of his legs making him fall into his back barely keeping his grip on his sword.
The remaining foe attempts to crawl back up as James' axe is brought down cutting deeply into his leg pinning him in place before James stomps on his sword arm crushing his wrist breaking it into several bits only muscle and sinew keeping it together causing him to scream out in pain as James silences him by ripping out his throat with his claws leaving him gurgling and choking on his own blood till he died.
James took a bite out of both of the assassins as wrong as it felt initially since they were human.

James noticed he couldn't find any of the butlers, maids, or Cloud anywhere in the castle. James put it to the back of his mind as he heard muffled screams and turned a corner to see Romania being tied up by 4 men in the same armor as the other 2 assassins.
James immediately raced over activating Primal Intimidation as he roared out startling all 4 of them and rooting them in place as he charged them hoping to also alert someone to the situation with all the noise. As he got close finally 3 of the 4 assassins moved to fight James while the last one held Romania much faster and more nimble than the previous 2 he killed and to his surprise faster than him creating many small cuts into his scales with their blades.

James struggled to hit them for a few seconds before finally grabbing one with his tail and embedding his axe within his chest before lunging at the second shoulder charging him into the wall slamming him into it cracking the fine wood making a small indent before slashing open the assassins throat with his claws as the 3rd assassin got up on his back and stabbed his blade into James' neck but could not pull the blade back out as James' tail came up and grabbed him by the neck choking him bringing him out in front as he took the blade from his neck and stabbed it into his eye slicing through his brain killing him instantly with now only the last assassin holding the tied up Romania.
The assassin spoke putting his blade to Romania's throat, "Don't you fuckin come any closer you damn lizard or she's dead!!"
Just as he said this a golden bolt of light flashed turning him to dust and Romania started to tear up as James came over and untied her, she hugged him and silently sobbed in his arms as a golden blade suddenly shot out of the darkness pressing against James' throat.
James looked into the dark hallway and said, "My lord is that really necessary? All I did was hold her you know."
