Chapter 15 – Magic Paper Test [2]

I was getting tired of the whole time wasting.

Pfft! I scoffed as I watched everyone discover their magic and go on to be wowed by it or hate it very much or feel indifferent about it.

I must say that I was quite disappointed that no one was getting something that intrigued me.

"Next," Vesta said.

The quiet and shy Sheila stepped up next, looking at the ground all the way till she reached Vesta, almost bumping into him.

She was fidgeting, her fingers trembling slightly as she touched the papers.

"Pick one."

"M-mhm mhmm."

Sheila picked one like the others before her and did what every other person did next.

She infused the paper with her mana and it responded instantly, reflecting a cerulean radiance off the surface of the card that danced across her skin.

As she gazed at the card, the drawing of the ocean's wave appeared on it.

Quite interesting. Someone finally had magic related to the core elements.

I was beginning to think I wasn't going to see that again since Tera Rockinson did her magic paper test.

Oh, and that was fifteen students ago. Tch!

"Hmm... a water magic user. That's an interesting one. Your powers shall ebb and flow with the tides, and the currents of your magic shall shape the waves of destiny."

Sheila was filled with profound joy, clutching the paper close to her chest.

Her eyes beamed with excitement and her cheeks flushed as she smiled.

"I-I always... I always felt a co-conn-connection to the sea," she stuttered.

Vesta brushed her hair lightly and smiled at her.

"I'm sure you do."

...

...

...

A medley of outcomes unfolded as we took turns approaching the warlock from the Mage Society and taking the magic paper test.

Some scholars discovered their incredible magic and basked in the joy of their discovery.

A few others hated their magic and the rest were basically on the fence — they neither hated theirs nor felt so great about having it either.

As we kept taking turns, one scholar's paper would gain the symbol of a lightning bolt on it, another manifested a mark that looked like a butterfly and yet another manifested a symbol that looked like a music staff.

But the most striking magic of the day was discovered next.

Even I had not seen magic like this. It was so unreal that I found it funny.

What the hell is even that?

Unfortunately, it was my man's — Rordon — turn to do the test.

Rordon Gamsay stepped forward as the rest did before him, filled with excitement from the tension.

He took deep breaths, his heart pounding fast in anticipation of what the paper would reveal to him.

"Let's do this," he motivated himself before casually swiping one paper from the bunch.

"I've always wanted lightning. So I can zap around and be fast as hell."

...

...

...

Rordon was done with the ritual of infusing mana into the paper but he was shocked to his marrow by what happened next.

"Huh?" Rordon blurted out.

Even Vesta was taken aback by Rordon's magic reveal.

"What the hell is this? It better be a prank, man," Rordon lamented, raising his paper to Vesta and making an angry face.

Rordon was not having it. He did not wait so long to get the symbol he had on his paper.

"What am I even going to do with that?" he grumbled.

"I'm not some chef. What am I going to do with a fork, spoon and knife, man?"

Vesta shrugged, waiting for him to stop complaining.

"Calm down."

Rordon took deeper breaths and talked himself into calming down.

"I'm calm now. I'm calm."

Rordon's card had manifested a symbol of a fork, a spoon and a knife.

"Ah, a utensil warlock! Now, that's a rare one. The culinary arts shall bow before your whimsical mastery."

"I can stir soup with my mind?" Rordon asked, making doe eyes at the warlock.

Vesta shut his eyes and nodded. "If that's how you want to apply it."

Blam!

Rordon's hands slammed on the cards but failed to scatter them off Vesta's hand.

"Like hell, I can!" he shouted and scoffed before walking away in fury.

"Utensil mage, indeed."

Laughter rippled through the field.

...

...

...

Finally, it was Elizabeth's turn and that meant I was next.

Her gaze locked onto the magic paper as she extended her hands and took one.

The paper in her hand soon lit up, engulfed in flames of vibrant colour.

There were no symbols, just flames that burned the paper without destroying it.

"Are you, perhaps, an Osvenor?" Vesta asked.

Liz nodded, affirming his question.

Hearing this, Vesta placed his hand on her head.

"May the flames of rebirth be your guiding light for all the days."

It was time for me to step forward but I was already too far gone in my thoughts.

What magic ability should I bestow on myself?

But then, if I do that to myself, I will have to stick to that magic forever.

Ah! Tiring thoughts.

What to do?

A hot sensation on my cheek from Liz's palm was what it took to bring me back to reality

"Oww!"

It felt like I was slapped with a hot frying pan.

I heaved a long sigh and stepped forward, taking my time with my slow steps.

I did not want to do this but I had no choice since it was a compulsory process for every scholar once they get into their second year.

Shoot! Tough luck!

What if something strange happens?

Something that not even Miss Double D or Vesta Sevarion understands concerning mana.

I am an anomaly in this world, not chained by any established mystical laws or boundaries.

I had a bad feeling about this magic paper test and I couldn't seem to shake it off, no matter how much I tried.

Standing before Vesta, we made eye contact. He could see doubt and concern in my eyes.

"Are you ready?" he asked me in a low tone.

I looked at him for a short moment and nodded.

I will still have to do it anyway, there was no escaping it.

"Yes."

He shifted his hand forward, bringing the remaining papers closer to me.

I took one in my hand, held it up and started infusing it with my energy and then it just disappeared.

The magic paper vanished into thin air.

"Uh-oh!" I muttered, laughing nervously.

"What the hell just happened?" Vesta thought after seeing what Dickens just did.
