1 Lonely nights

1: 00 am in the morning, the lights in a huge mansion were still lit. It was dead quiet, but inside the house, a beautiful woman was seated at the dining table wearing her nightgown. She had a sexy red nightie.

She repeatedly sighed, looking at the time on her phone.

She walked to the window looking outside to see if they could catch a glimpse of a car pulling into the compound but was disappointed.

She thought maybe tonight would be the night they would try again. From her doctor's perspective, the next three days would be the perfect time to try and have a baby. But just like the other nights in the last four years, he never came home early. Feeling disappointed, she walked away from the window, looking at the food she struggled in the kitchen to cook, and then walked upstairs.

She switched off the light from the hallway and entered her bedroom. Just as she sat on their huge bed, a message popped on her screen. She wasn't in a hurry to look at it but being a wife. She had to be concerned. For nights, she was worried something might have happened to her husband.

"Mmmmh. A new number. Who could it be" she was surprised. Only family members knew the number she was using currently. Feeling curious, she opened the message.

It was a video. In the clip, a man and a woman are kissing passionately under the dimly lit room came to view. Evelyn looked at the video in shock, like being stabbed in the chest. The anger inside her boiled. She knew the figure too well. It was her husband, Martin. The man she has been waiting for the whole night.

Here she was in the cold night waiting for her husband, but he was busy having an affair with another woman.

Holding the phone tightly, she watched as they continued deep before he stopped.

"I have to go home now. Evelyn is waiting," Martin said to the woman pulling her away from him by her waist.

"What? You promised to spend the weekend with me. Today is Friday. It's my night. Don't do this to me again," The woman responded in an annoyed tone, "You married her for your political career, but you promised you would be with me always. You said you will always love me. But look at you now. It's her that you worry about all the time."

"No. It's not like that. You know I am at a critical point in my political career. I don't want any scandals at this time. I am the governor, and soon I'll be running for the presidency. If she found out about this, it will be over." The man stroked the woman's hair with one hand while holding her waist with the other, "wait until this is over, and I can be with you as you wish."

Evelyn tried to hold her tears but could feel them trickling down her face slowly. Who would've thought the man she worshipped years back? The man she was glad to leave everything behind for never loved her. She knew their parents planned their marriage, but she was already in love with the man, even if it was a political marriage.

Looking at the man in the video, she looked like a fool. She was being played for a fool. She had always stood on his side while running for the governorship. She was as supportive as any wife could be.

No wonder he never came home, sometimes claiming he was busy at work and something came up or a meeting was scheduled with the president at night. Sometimes he would say they had a political meeting in Naivasha with the rest of the leaders. Sometimes she would ask to go with him, but he always came up with an excuse. You will be bored alone in the hotel room and all those stupid excuses. At first, she would believe him, but she had doubts when it was too often.

Now looking at the video, everything was clear. Her husband was cheating on her.

Five years ago, Evelyn was the top surgeon in the country and the best in the neurological department. Due to her marriage and because of this man. Everything she had done and did for this man was all in vain. It was not even appreciated. There was no gratitude. He knew she was waiting for him too well, but he didn't even care to send a message that he would be coming late.

Despicable

Lying down on the cold sheets on her bed, she looked at their wedding photo on the table beside the bed and cried out loud. For nights she had been lying to herself that things would work out between them, that his work was taking a toll on him. He didn't touch her because he was tired, but now all came crumbling down on her.

She laid down on the bed without covering herself and fell asleep while crying. She didn't know when Martin came, but she woke up to find the man sleeping next to her. She was also covered with the blanket.

They had servants for a while, but she thought she, as the wife, should take the duty of cooking for her husband into her hands. For the last four years, she had been cooking for him, doing his clothes, shopping for his attires, and arranging his diet. He was a busy man, and a balanced diet and exercise were required to be fit and energized. But this morning, she didn't feel like doing any of that anymore. She turned on the bed and faced the man.

He was the very handsome man she had ever seen. That's one of the things that made her fall in love at first sight. Looking at his sleeping posture, she was tempted to touch his face, but she stopped the urge just thinking of the video she saw.

The anger boiled in her as she tossed the blanket away and got off the bed. She went into the bathroom, looked at herself in the mirror, and laughed hysterically. Was this the life she wanted? She had called herself to her meeting for the last few months, asking crucial questions.
