‘‘Hey, dude! You’re here again…?’’ The question was posed by Kaden as he and Devon started making their way toward the benches.

I hastened to catch up with them, dusting off my knees, while also attempting to straighten out my shirt so that it looked more presentable after I tumbled on the floor.

I observed as they made themselves comfortable on the bench, Devon leaving some distance between us and the other boys in the team. As he waited for me to sit next to him, his lips were slightly curved upwards.

‘‘My Philosophy class just ended, and I'm here to let Mike know that his scheduled training for later today has been canceled. You have to stay after school for detention, right?'' Devon responded to Kaden’s question, and when he noticed that I wasn't moving from where I was standing, he patted the spot next to him, gesturing for me to sit down.
