2 The Sacrifice

Looks like everyone has chosen their systems. The class president, Shira Valence is the one who bought the title of the True Hero.

As expected of her. She is popular in school due to her active role in clubs and organizing public events.

As for Alfred, it must be something great. I don't even wanna know but since he boasts it so everyone hears it. "Look, as expected, I have the Dragon-born Brave Title. I can't wait to see how cool I am in another world."

"As expected of Alfred."

"You are pretty popular after all."

My classmates are gathering around him, complimenting him.

Well, good for him.

Others are forming groups and even becoming closer than before. They must know, that they need to have stronger bonds if they want to survive in another world.

But it is impressive that they learned to get over it quickly.

As for me. Sigh. This is quite unfair. I have no friends and I have a lame system.

Seriously? Suicidal Divider? Do I have like to harm myself or something? Though some titles are weird.

"Huh? What's with that system?! Haha." A girl laughs behind me.

It is Lara. I have some concerns with her attitude. She is only second to Alfred in terms of the people I rank as a devil. She has wavy blond hair, she is taller than me and that part is annoying since with her haughty attitude, is constantly picking on me.

"Hey Alfred, take a look at this loser."

I scratch my head while chuckling nervously.

Alfred put his sights on me. He then grins as he approaches me.

After they peek at my system, they laugh aloud. My classmates as well join the laughs to mock me.

"Well, what do we expect? A loser from earth is also a loser anywhere."

"I'm even impressed this guy has a system."

"It seems he still has some popularity points which is surprising."

Alfred's friends do know how to run their mouths.

As for why Lara does it, it is because she wants to get close to Alfred. Of course by bullying me. It is obvious she likes him.

Myla then goes between Alfred and myself. She calms them down. "Alfred stop it! I think you are going too far."

"Myla, I don't understand you. Why are you protecting this loser?"

"Loser? Why don't you take a look at yourself in the mirror first?" Myla lashes out.

I manage to peek at her system title. Vampiric Magus, which based on the name sounds impressive.

Well, she's popular after all. It's not odd for her to acquire such a high-end system. However, looking at Lara, she is staring strangely at Myla. Is it jealousy? I get the feeling that she hates her. Well, they aren't always on good terms.

Eventually, the student president, Shira steps forward to stop them. "Both of you, now is not the time to fight."

After they stop, Alfred glares at me. Those are the eyes telling me that he might not hesitate to kill me once we get out of here.

I'm doomed!

Looks like I have everything.

Bad system.

No companions and plenty of enemies.

Kami declares coldly.

"I see. Now that everyone has chosen their titles, for the next procedure, one has to be sacrificed for the summoning to work."

Our jaws fall after we hear it.

The president speaks. "What do you mean by sacrifice?"

"Haha, it's simple. Just choose one from your group, otherwise, I can't transport you to the nation of Silvia."

My classmates are murmuring to each other.

Another classmate nervously asked. "Wh-what happens to the chosen person?"

"Hehe, let's just say bad things will happen to him or her, but I can assure you the safety of everyone else."

The classroom president gasps. "By that... You mean?"

My classmates are frightened.

I feel the same way. This Kami guy. I can't believe he is putting us in this situation. This might cause us to fight and break our trust in other.

We can't agree to it.

Kami grows more darker. It sends chills in our spine. It feels like he has eyes peering into our souls. "So, what do you suggest! All of you may die here or you may choose one."

We are taken aback.

"What happens if we don't choose?" A smart-looking student with glasses asked.

"Then I will choose a different group of people from earth. All of you will have to die here. In other words..."

Everyone gathers and talks about it.

"Hey, what should we do. President?"

The guy with glasses lifts it on his nose bridge. "If nothing is done, this class is over."

The president is silent. She crosses her arms, contemplating. She has to think carefully since the responsibility is on her shoulders.

Alfred laughs aloud as though there is no worry. "You guys think too much. There is one simple solution." He looks at me from a distance. Everyone also does the same.

"That guy. It's a good idea, don't you think?"

The guy with glasses glints as he speaks coldly. "Hmm, since he has the weakest system and he doesn't have any close companions, logically, it is for the best if he is chosen. There is a chance he will just be a burden to us. So it's better if we let him sacrifice himself."

It bothers me that what he says isn't wrong. Throwing me off the bus is the best for the class. If we are transported into another world, there is a chance I will just be a burden.

Others are silent but it seems they can't disagree. I already know the decision of the class.

Shira, the class president sighs. She then faces in my direction. "Verni, I'll listen to what you have to say."

I gulp. I don't know what to say back. Regardless, I am the weakest. If I am gone. It is for the best. I grit my teeth as I am about to speak. "I--"

"No!" Myla stops me before I can say anything. "I won't allow it. If it's anyone, it should be me."

Alfred is annoyed. He goes close and grabs her arm. "What are you saying Myla?! Just leave this worm alone."

Myla slaps his arm. Alfred got taken aback. "Everyone! What you are doing disgusts me. I dislike how you are forcing someone to take responsibility!"

Everyone feels disappointed after she says it.

Kami laughs manically. "So is that decision final? You, Myla Carren will be the sacrifice?"

How things are going, I don't like it. If this continues I won't be able to forgive myself. I already feel bad.

I grit my teeth and yell aloud. "No, please take me! And this is final!"

"Oh. Hehe, are you sure?!" Said the flask.

I gulp and speak without hesitation. "Ye-yes!"

Myla gasps and worriedly stares at me. "What are you thinking Verni?"

I take a deep breath. I can't look pathetic in front of her.

"Myla, thank you for everything. You are the only one who treated me well even I am a dull person. Don't feel bad, this is my choice."

Is it my imagination or is she about to tear up? In fact, I don't understand why she would care about me this much. I think it's pathetic if it's because of pity.

Regardless, my body is slowly vanishing as though dissolving. I will be separated from my classmates now it seems.

Myla does her best to run to me. However, before she can come close, I already left the white room.

I said all those stuff to look cool but I am scared even more than she is.

I might be even slightly regretting my decision. Damn, if at least I can receive a painless death, it is enough.

I was born in this world without much luck, now in another world, I think it seems it will continue.

My consciousness is fading. Maybe this is it.

I have many things that I wish I did. But there is no turning back now.

Then everything went black.

***

I manage to open my eyes again. A dark rocky ceiling is looming above me. It's a bit dim but the surroundings are lit by torches.

Hmm, what is this awful rotting smell? In fact, the ground my back is resting on feels uncomfortable.

Am I inside a cave? No, perhaps underground?

At least I'm not dead.

Looks like I am standing on a rocky hill.

Huh? So, these are my stat points huh? Well, it looks cute. Though, I'm not sure how small it is since I have no reference.

Regardless, I shall at least check my skill.

So, this is what it's all about? I can create a clone of myself, huh?

I smile. It seems I'm getting excited. I think I'll try to forget my classmates for now and leave it all behind me.

But, I'll never forgive them for this! I wish I was stronger, so I can protect Myla. I wish I can keep my promise!

I feel like crying for being a sore loser that a girl has to protect me. I wish if only I was as good-looking as Alfred, as charismatic as the president and as optimistic and strong as Myla.

Damn it!

I'm worthless.

I can only think bad about myself for days and it won't change anything. I already know that.

Thinking about things I can't control will lead me to nowhere.

Myla, wait for me!

For now, I'll do my best to find my way to leave this place. The first thing to do so is to understand thyself.

Then cast my first skill. "Character division!"

A copy of myself emerges from white smoke from the air. I feel amused. Though it feels uncanny to see yourself without using a mirror.

My clone an exact copy, just stands there like a robot.

I push my clone and the clone didn't have any reaction except trying to stand back up straight.

I wonder what can this clone do?

I just realized what I was standing is not an ordinary hill but it is made of bones and skulls.

Ugh. Gross. I lost my balance. I yell and roll down. Ack!

Falling on the ground hurts me. I also manage to find an old diary.

I then read it. It's in japanese but thankfully because I'm a weeb I can read it.

[My name is Harukawa Kazuto, I've been sacrificed by my classmates and have been teleported here ]

Eh? Don't tell me the hill of skulls that are gathered here are the sacrificed students?!

It is a shocking revelation. Looking at the clothes of the skeletons, they look modern. Then did they die here as well? What's going to happen next?

I then continue to read it.

[If you are the same as me then you know what type of person you are. I want you to read this as well ]

I'm curious what happened to this guy. Did he make it?

[The monsters here are level 60 to 100. If you are level 1 you know its wise to just stay here. Monsters won't come in this place]

Eh?! Seriously? That's pretty high level.

[Just to let you know, it won't play like in the manga. No goddesses or fairies will come down to help you. If you want to overcome this you need to use your wits]

Wits, huh? But I'm glad I have this information. Reading further, it seems the ink is fading but I can still read it.

[ I have been here for a month. Now, without food I'm starving. For your own good its better if you kill yourself early. Your chances of survival in this place is 0% ]

The paragraph stops at that moment.

I then drop the diary with a depressed look on my face.

I expect some information, not depression. Sigh.

It shocked me greatly.

I have been sitting in here for an hour without doing nothing.

For now, I have decided I shall scout this place.

I then hurrily grab some torch. I left the area and went through the exit which is pitch black. Glad I have some torches.

However, after some time, I stop. A giant spider the size of a mansion is on my path.

Without a doubt, this is dangerous monster. So, this is what Harukawa is talking about.

[High level monster

Level ??]

I'm screwed. Well, what shall I do now?!
