Heroes, dead and alive

Cael didn't move from his spot. The intensity of the last battle, the tension of body and mind—it all added together. He was completely and utterly exhausted, more so than he ever was before. No matter how strong his will was, his body simply couldn't muster the strength to move anymore.

Which didn't stop his System from talking in his ear. Although, showing that it was now capable of not only emotion but also consideration, it took a much more respectful and calm tone. It was more like the old version of the System Cael was used to.

'As you know from the records of your predecessor, Cael, the Starspawn are creatures that don't have mortal bodies. Instead, their mana is their entire being. It holds their power, their personality, and their memories. When you consumed the power of the Starspawn, although it was largely wiped clean by your magic, I gained some of those things.'

Cael's expression, utterly relaxed before, shifted. His brows furrowed slightly.
