3 Chapter three

"I can't sit in....." I began to say. "Shhh" the girl interrupted me asking me to keep quiet and I just kept mute.

Am I obsessed or something?

"My name is Sumayya popularly known as Maya. So call me Maya." she said and I nodded.

"Uhmm ok. I'm Ummul Khair. Call me Khair. Nice to meet and thank you for saving me from that boy." I said and she smiled.

"You're welcome Khair. Keep your distance away from those boys. They are the school bullies. Their names are Ibrahim, the one who was about to slap you. Joseph and Emmanuel. They use t...." the school bell interrupted her explanation.

"It's assembly time. Let's go" she informed and I stood up to follow her to the Assembly ground.

After the long welcome back speech from the school principal, we sang the national anthem and the school anthem which I kept mute when others sang it.

we marched back to our various classes after that.

The classes started and a teacher walked in. We all stood up to greet him. We got seated and he introduced himself as Mr Dennis, the new maths teacher.

"We are not going to start the new terms topic today so we are going to review your previous class topics so that wherever you don't understand and there is need for you to know it as it will be helpful in your new class, then I will go back and explain them alright?" Mr Dennis explained

"ok" we all chorused. "Good" he praised.

He wrote some topics on the board and asked if we have done them all. We all answered positively and he chuckled.

"Since you all know something on Pythagoras theory, then I will call one of you to come up here and show us how what I'm about to write on the board is solved" Mr Dennis announced with a smile and everyone literally started panicking.

This is hilarious

I know I understand this topic pretty well in my junior classes.

"You come here and solve this" Mr Dennis said pointing at Joseph.

From the look on Joseph's face,you can clearly see that he doesn't know it but he stood up very slowly and moved towards the board.

He collected the marker from Mr Dennis's hand with shaky hands. Joseph just put his hand on the board and pretended he was thinking. We all just opened our eyes at whatever he's about to do.

"Can't you do it? you're wasting time here." Mr Dennis told him. "I can't sir" Joseph admitted with shame. Mr Dennis dismissed him and he went back to his seat face down.

"Hmm,you with glasses at the back seat, come and solve it" Mr Dennis said pointing at me this time.

Oh my God

I'm panics now also

What should I do?

What did you think you can do apart from getting up and solving it? my subconscious said

With no confidence, I dragged myself to humans started solving it on the board.

When I was done, I faced the teacher and told him I was done. He studied what I wrote and smiled

"Correct! Correct!!. This is very good,you got it correctly. pls give her a round of applause." Mr Dennis said and everyone was clapping for me with jealousy except Maya who was grinning at me and I literally felt like flying.

Yes! Yes!! Yess!!!

I went back to my seat trying hard not to smile and Mr Dennis explained to the class how its done. He left the class after that.
