Plan of Action

Max and Elly were currently eating dinner at the inn's restaurant, the food was delicious and the atmosphere around them was warm, it reminded Max of the time he ate with his family back on Earth, except that this time, he was in a fantasy world with some goblin girl he saved from her abusive village.

"So... what are we going to do now?" the half-goblin asked, she was curious as to why her friend had been silent all day.

"We'll stay in this kingdom for one more week, then we'll head back to another one, and probably kill lots of monsters on our way to make more money," the boy replied while taking another bite of spaghetti, he needed to complete his assassination quest before leaving after all, and of course he couldn't inform Elly of what his plans were as he didn't want the girl to think less of him for that.

"How about going for the dungeon near the city? I heard that it was a bit more dangerous than the Flavip Forest, but it is great for monster cores and the such," Elly proposed, as the weak one in the party, she did not only take the role of cook but also of researcher.

"Hm~, good idea, let's do that then!" Max agreed, he could use some training anyway, plus it would allow him to get stronger faster and become an even better assassin, that is once he completes his mission though, because if he doesn't, that penalty (week of weakness) would stop his plans.

The duo finished their meals and went back upstairs to sleep, they didn't plan anything, but today had been another tiring day of exploration and fun, so they just felt like doing nothing but lying on their bed.

But Max couldn't sleep, he was thinking about the other heroes that had been summoned in the kingdom of "Greyburk", as well as how his classmates could be doing right now.

'They must think I'm dead by now huh...' he thought, 'but it doesn't matter, I'll do my thing, they can do theirs, and when the time is right... I'll...'

He stopped himself from continuing that line of thoughts, he didn't want to ruin his mood for no reason.

And so he finally fell asleep, tomorrow would be a busy day after all, wouldn't it?

***

Max woke up early the next morning, he had slept well and felt refreshed, and so he got ready to have a long discussion with his divination to talk about his plan of action to complete his assassination quest.

Trying not to wake Elly up, as they were now used to sleeping in the same bed, he got up and sat on a chair near the dining table.

'So... what do we do?'

[Step 1: find location of target]

[Step 2: kill target]

"That's all...?" he mumbled, almost certain now that his divination was making fun of him.

[Yes.]

"Fuck you dude..." he sighed, but maybe that was another one of his divination's tricks so that he would come up with a plan all by himself, after all, he was supposed to be an assassin.

And so Max decided to construct the plan by himself, now ignoring his divination and acting as if it didn't exist.

The first step in his plan was to check the "royal hotel" the saintess was staying in, after all, he would need the room number if he wanted to have a chance at eliminating her.

And so, he decided to write a note to Elly: "Going to the city, coming back later, enjoy the day by yourself, I left my Bank Card on the table", then headed towards the "royal hotel".

Of course, the boy had no idea where it was, and people weirdly looked at him once he asked for the directions because of his... non-noble physique, but it didn't bother him, because after around two hours, he finally reached it.

It was a luxurious building with marble walls and windows, it was much bigger than any other building in the city and had a gigantic fountain in front of it, it was without a doubt the best logement in Atlanta.

"..." and then he realized that his plan had a massive flaw: he couldn't just ask around where the saintess was, "plan B then: stalk the place until I see her!"

***

Max stayed outside the royal hotel for most of the day, waiting for the saintess to come out of it, but she never did.

'Is she really here...? Or am I wasting my time?' he wondered, starting to get annoyed.

He had spent the entire day sitting on a bench, observing the entrance of the hotel, which was guarded by a dozen knights, making it impossible for him to sneak in.

And so he decided to call it a day and go back to the inn, it was already late and he needed to rest, plus he would be able to continue his investigation tomorrow.

[Got nothing on the first day, but it doesn't mean you should abandon already]

And just like that, three days passed without much happening, Max went every day to the royal hotel and stayed in front of it to observe any movements in and out of it, yet the saintess was not leaving for some reason.

Of course, the reason the saintess stayed indoors so much was both because of protection, but also because she was currently investigating the mysterious boy and his divination, trying to figure out who they were, in the process she had also hired many professionals to discover his identity, yet none of them decided to check the most obvious place out of them all: the front of the hotel, because after all, what kind of assassin would show himself in broad daylight in such an obvious spot right?

Well, that assassin is Max!

***

It was only on the fourth day when the clock almost struck midnight and his eyes were slowly closing that Max heard something that interested him, and it was related to the saintess as well.

'Jackpot,' he thought once he heard the name "Lilia" and decided to use his super hearing to listen to the conversation from afar.

But nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to hear.

[Time left for assassination quest: 2 days 12 hours 32 minutes]
