Are We In Love?

Fifteen minutes had passed since Jason left and Emery's hospital room was more than quiet.

As it was a VIP room, it was very spacious and the atmosphere was great too. But the smell was still that of a hospital smell which was quite hard to ignore.

Emery was sleeping on the bed with her eyes glued to the wall clock. It was the only thing that produced sound in the whole room. She was counting every minute, waiting for her brother to return. She didn't feel great by herself at all!

Then suddenly, the door was opened from the outside and one young man appeared on the scene. Emery's eyes flew to the door as soon as she heard the sound of the door being opened. She scanned the man who appeared at the door, but... it was not Jason.

The young man walked inside her room and took a seat. He didn't sit next to her bed, but on the couch which was a few steps away from her bed. He picked up one of the magazines on the table and read it as he sat there without saying anything.

Time passed by seconds by seconds until it became five minutes and Emery found it hard to be still as curiosity almost killed her!

Just who was this man?

If he came to visit her, he should at least take the initiative to talk to her yet he calmly sat there, reading some magazines!

Did he get the wrong room or what? But if that's the case, he would already realize it when he saw her face, right?

By any chance, did he lose his memory too? She doubted that would be the case as the young man completely looked fine!

With much effort, she pushed herself up and sat on the bed with her gaze never leaving the young man. "Who are you?" She finally asked him as she couldn't resist her curiosity anymore.

The man's eyes that scrolled through the magazines immediately stopped moving at her question. He looked at her with a seemingly blank expression and put down the magazine on the center table next to the couch he was sitting on. "What do you mean by that?" He asked her back.

"You just enter my room and keep on sitting there without saying anything," Emery pointed out. The more she talked, the more her throat hurts.

The young man raised a brow and walked towards her bed. Now that she finally had a closer look at him, she noticed that the guy was quite handsome. He possessed a charming aura that would surely put him above others. His black hair paired with thick eyebrows gave out a masculine yet cold vibe. Not to mention that his black leather jacket and blue jeans suited him very well.

"Do you have something to say to me?" His expression was blank but there was a hint of curiosity in his enticing black eyes.

Emery was dumbfounded once again. What's wrong with this man? It looked like he surely came to visit her but... why did he ask her such a question? He should be the one to talk, wasn't he?

She was about to question him but the doctor who treated her before entered the room. The doctor flashed a smile when she saw the young man.

"When did you come, son?" Doctor Lucia Pierre asked the young man.

Oh! He's the son of the doctor. Did he come here for his mother?

Wait! That still didn't make sense! Why would he come here if he was the doctor's son? Emery was perplexed and at the same time, she became more and more curious.

The young man's face lit up at the sight of his mother. The nonchalant face that he showed Emery just before was nowhere to be seen!

"Just a few minutes ago," he replied in a calm voice.

Doctor Lucia turned to Emery and smiled at her. "Why don't you lie down? Does your head hurt?" She stood next to her and checked her thoroughly.

"I'm fine, but Doctor, what is your son doing here?" Emery asked Doctor Lucia Pierre.

The man's eyes almost popped out when he heard the question! He just got here but... was she already bothered by his presence?!

He should have never come here! After going through a life-and-death situation, he thought that she would change at least even in the slightest bit but... he was wrong. She was still that arrogant and inconsiderate Emery Hayes!

He opened his mouth to say something but his mother beat him to it.

"Oh! I didn't think through that. Sorry, Emery." Doctor Lucia paused and then smiled as she said, "This is Marcus Pierre, my son... and your fiance." The smile slipped a bit from the doctor's face when she introduced her son. Maybe she pitied the young woman who needed to be told everything anew.

Fiance?! So, this young man was her fiance?! Why didn't her brother tell her that? Why did he behave like that before? Countless questions flooded Emery's mind all at once! Apart from all, she didn't know how to behave in such a situation. It was far beyond expected!

The same went for Marcus Pierre! He blinked in surprise and looked at his mother, demanding some explanation.

He and Emery Hayes had known each other since they were children. Why did he need to be introduced as if he was a stranger? He didn't understand a thing!

"Son, can we talk for a minute?" Dr. Lucia said to her son in a gentle voice as she briefly placed her hand on his upper arm. She then walked out of the room and Marcus followed her, confusedly.

While the mother and son were chatting outside, Emery waited impatiently. Just like earlier, she was staring at the wall clock, counting every minute. Eventually, the guy who was called 'her fiance' entered the room again after around three minutes which felt like hours to her.

This time, Marcus Pierre approached Emery instead of walking straight to the couch and stood next to her bed, awkwardly rubbing his head as he struggled for words to say. A few seconds passed this way before he finally asked, "Do you really forget everything?"

As Emery only stared at him, looking quite confused instead of responding to him, Marcus Pierre's legs were rooted on the floor with his mind flooded with many different thoughts.

This was a prank, right? His mother and this arrogant woman were just playing with him!

No! That's impossible!

The Emery Hayes he knew would never do such a thing to him. She never looked at him nor cared for him. In her world, he didn't really exist! So, she would never spend a minute... no... even a second just to play a prank on him!

Did she really forget everything? How could this happen? The high and mighty heiress had all her memory wiped off?! He thought that even the possibility was laughable!

While he was thinking of the many possibilities, what Emery said made everything clear.

"Are you really my fiance?" She asked him as she curiously gazed at him. "Does that mean... are we in love or something like that?"
