Chapter 16: Rogues

Clara’s POV

After we announced the names of the new warriors, Erik stated that there will be training early in the morning. Ian became busy gathering information about Klaus and was checking the warriors who are defending our borders, making sure that there are no traitors. Erik didn’t want to suspect his pack but he wanted to make sure of better security.

Angeline, my wolf, and I kept on practicing my powers so I won’t pass out again. Even if it’s for a little while, just enough to save me or anyone from a crisis. Feeling tired, I went out to my library and went downstairs to the kitchen. It became part of my daily basis to go and spend time with the pack in the kitchen. I became close to Lia, I later found out that Lia is Ian’s mate. I was so surprised when Ian called her ‘babe’. I’ve been here for months and I thought that he has no mate.

“Hi,” I said as I entered the kitchen and as usual, they were at the long table bickering while eating. I’ve been eating breakfast with them ever since our encounter. I met werewolves here in the kitchen. At first, the others who were coming into the kitchen became tense but later they became comfortable.

“Luna!” Edward, the energetic pup, called for me, gesturing me to sit beside him. I smiled at him and looked at the food served on the table. “That looks amazing,” I said, pulling the chair for me to sit on.

“Of course, I did my best to cook it,” Angela said, boasting of her cooking skills. They’ve been taking turns cooking, they won’t let me cook even if it’s for once. Angela is also the mother of Edward and Farkas’ mate.

As I sat down, Angela quickly served me some food prohibiting me from serving my food. She said that it is an honor for her that she is serving me. I always feel embarrassed whenever I remember what she said. The food smelled so good that my stomach growled and I immediately gobbled the food.

“How’s your training, any progress?” Angela said, sitting beside his son. Edward is now sitting in the middle. “I don’t even know if I’m making any progress” I replied, sighing, I continued eating my food. I just finished eating my food when Lia entered the kitchen and seated immediately, slumping her back into the chair.

“Hey Luna,” She said, looking worn out. She is one of the new warriors that won the fighting competition. The old warriors are following the training menu of Erik and training by themselves but the new ones are being trained by Erik himself. Seeing Lia can’t even lift a finger made me pity her. I’m not the fighting type, I’m more like a supporter. Even though my powers are suited for support, I took my plate and put it in the sink.

“Well, work hard and I’ll be returning to my library to train again,” I said and went to Edward, pinched his cheek, and said goodbye to the pack who were eating at the table.

We will be doing it longer this time Angeline said while I am walking to my library.

What are we doing? I asked, curious at what she said.

I'm going to teach you how to widen your hearing.

I got excited when I heard about what she will be teaching me. Our senses are already heightened thanks to our wolves but if I can still widen my hearing, then I can tell if there will be an enemy coming near me.

I opened the door of my library and headed straight to my sofa. I made sure that I was comfortable when I talked to Angeline.

"I'm ready" I informed her.

"Close your eyes and focus on your hearing"

I did what Angeline instructed and just focused on my hearing. I've been hearing the same things for an hour now and there have been no changes.

"Try to look for our mate using your hearing, focus" Angeline whispered in my head instructing me.

I closed my eyes again and tried to hear more things. The training grounds are in the south direction. I focused on hearing in that direction. More Clara, deepen year senses, focus more, more, more, deeper. I kept on telling myself when I heard Erik's voice but it was still weak, I focused more on his voice, wanting to hear more until it became clearer. I hear his voice loud and clear and I can also hear the panting of our warriors.

"Now, try and move your hearing to the kitchen" This one should be easy because it's nearer. I was about to open my eyes to breathe before focusing again when Angeline stopped me.

"Don't relax. Keep on doing it, until you can do it naturally" She instructed. I told them what she said and managed to move my hearing to the kitchen. I heard Edward's laugh including the voice of Farkas.

As the time passed it kept on getting harder to manage for too long that I thought I'm going to be choked. I stopped, feeling the air running away from me, catching my breath, I held my head because of the sudden dizziness. I calmed myself and when my breathing became normal, I stood and poured some water into my cup. I gulped the water in one go and returned to my sofa.

“What happened, are you okay?” Erik who must have felt in our mate link that I was catching my breath and became dizzy. “Yes babe, I’m fine. Just having a hard time in my training” I said, assuring him. I slumped my back into my sofa and pinched the bridge of my nose.

“This is pretty tiring,” I said, complaining to my wolf. She giggled and told me that I’ll master it in no time. After reassuring me that I’ll do great, I gave the training another go.

Erik’s POV

“Too slow! Watch his movements and try to predict. If the enemy will attack, wait for it, dodge it, and make some distance for you to shift. If not, shift, Again!” I ordered.

The warriors must shift faster than the enemy and be able to predict their enemy's movements. That is why I kept on ordering them to repeat and focused on their mock battle. The smaller one is the one who always shifts faster while the other is stuck on whether to shift or to dodge. This will be his weakness, I need to fix this while we have time to train.

“Watch his movements!, Again!” I ordered. They shifted back to their human form and started taunting each other again. I moved to the other set of wolves that is also having a mock battle for training. They both shifted at the same time and attacked each other.

“Good! But both of you should always aim to shift faster than the other” They both bowed at me accepting my instructions. I wandered around and observed their mock battle and I came back to where the warrior that is slow to shift is. He is slow I thought. I walked towards him and seeing me getting near they stopped and bowed. “You’re slow to shift,” I said while holding my chin. He lowered his head more, feeling embarrassed. “Then don’t shift '' I instructed, his head rose, and looked at me with a confused look. I smirked at him and said, “If you are about to fight with someone one on one, let him shift first, attack, you dodge, shift. If you are fighting in a group, your group covers you for you to shift, that's easy” I instructed him. He bowed, accepting my teachings and they shifted back to their human form to restart their mock battle. Following my instructions, he waited for his enemy to shift and waited for his next move, the enemy attacked him, and he dodged and kicked him far away from him and shifted. I nodded and clapped my hands at him. In this, he would not worry if he should shift or not, in the start he wouldn't shift and wait for his enemy’s first move.

I trained them until the afternoon, thinking that I still had paperwork to do. I let them train by themselves and I was about to head towards my office when I saw a cloud of black smoke in the sky. I followed the smoke and it was on the east side, deep inside the forest.

“Alpha, they have come” Ian reported. “How far?” I asked.

“They’ll be near our borders within 15 minutes” Ian replied.

“CALL THE OTHER WARRIORS! THE TIME HAS COME! BE PREPARED!” I shouted making sure that every werewolf present could hear us.

“The enemies have come, warriors, on the east” I mind-linked the whole pack letting them know that we are under attack. I shifted and ran through the forest to greet our guests.

“Mom” I mind-linked my mother while I was running, heading to where the smoke was.

“I know son, I am gathering every non-warrior” She replied, assuring me. “Take care, my son,” Mom said, almost like she was whispering.

I focused on running, evading every rock on the way until I met with Ian.

“How far?”

“They are fast, they’ll arrive in a few minutes,” Ian said.

I looked through the back of a tree and saw a pair of shorts. I shifted back to my human form and wore a pair of shorts. We heard some explosions and the trees are being burnt one by one.

“This is bad, the fire is spreading fast,” I said. Vincent arrived and rushed to my side, observing the situation with Tia in the air, flying.

“Can you do something about the fire, Tia!” I shouted while looking up into the air to face Tia. She came down, mumbled a few words that I couldn't understand, and raised her hands through the air. A few seconds passed and the sky turned black, I heard some thunder and it rained.

It only stopped the fire from spreading but it can’t kill the fire that is currently burning the trees.

“Hoh! She must have grown wiser, that stupid sister of mine” Tia said, laughing devilishly. Vincent and Ian came out behind the trees and shifted to their human forms.

The warriors came one by one until my whole pack was behind me, waiting for my signal. Klaus arrived followed by his pack of rogues. Walking towards me smiling.

“Well, well, well, Thank you for greeting me, Alpha,” Klaus said, smirking and emphasizing the word Alpha.

“I’m not greeting you, I’m here to pick up some trash” I taunted back. Klaus’ smirk vanished in his face instantly and he became annoyed. I smirked and crossed my arms in front of me.

Clara’s POV

Try to focus more like you are unlocking some door

Okay, Angeline

I followed Angeline’s instructions. I can now hear what I want to hear and where continuously but still can’t widen it. Angeline said that I should be hearing anywhere I want, not only in the pack but in the whole territory.

I deepened my concentration and my hearing until I heard some growls.

Angeline

Yeah. Connect your hearing to your sight. You can do it since it’s an emergency. I’ll help you unlock the door. Angeline said and I quickly followed her instructions and tried connecting my sight to my hearing. I kept on hearing growls and I heard Erik’s voice and I heard Klaus’s voice.

ANGELINE! I shouted, panicking because of the situation.

Focus on the voice of our mate! She said back and I focused on Erik’s voice. Wanting to see him and what situation he is in. I want to see my mate, my mate I kept on repeating it like it became some spell. In a few seconds, I saw Erik followed by our warriors, Ian and Vincent standing on both of his sides. Tia is in the air.

Klaus is on the other and numerous rogues behind him. On Klaus's side, you can see the trees burning while on our side it is raining. Opening my eyes and gasping for air.

“We have to go,” I said to my wolf. I caught my breath and stood, running through the pack house until I was outside. I shifted and rushed to the side of my pack.

I won’t let him kill and destroy my pack the second time around.

With that thought in mind, I ran using all my strength to increase my speed.
