Adversities contributed to my success

MY FAILURE CONTRIBUTED TO MY SUCCESS

Throughout my childhood journey as a typical young Kenyan boy, i have always been this bright, humble and stress free young boy. I never had a problem with anybody and my life just went on smoothly until when i clocked 14 years of age, just barely two months after joining my sophomore year in highschool. I was excited about highschool because of all the testimonies i heard from friends and family about having a stress free study schedule as opposed to that in the primary schools because of the pressure of working hard in order to join a good highschool.

Indeed I joined a good highschool and i lived a happy life with no regrets at all. I tried every sporting activity except rugby because i was small bodied at that time. I had a lot of interest in basketball and tennis but i had a lot of passion in tennis so i decided to drop basketball training. Having the lawn tennis captain, who was in his final year being in the same dormitory as me and moreso him being my friend was an advantage to me because he taught me all the skills that i needed to know.

Being a boy with big dreams, all my dreams just crumbled down one day after i was robbed off my pocket money. Being from a humble background i did not have the chance of calling my family and requesting for more money. I was shocked beyond words and i reported the case to my teachers and friends but there was nothing they could do. The act really broke my heart and i started having bad thoughts about the school and doubtful thoughts about the character of all the people around me in school.

Having fully evolved into a severely doubtful person i never talked to anybody because I felt like they had deceived me. This character turned me into a depressed person and i even had failing grades in my second and third years of my highschool life.

I felt like i needed a change in my life so I decided to be an active person so that i could relieve myself of all the tension. Over the COVID-19 period i applied for the Kennedy Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program and my interaction with people from all over Kenya really changed my perspective about life. I was lucky enough to be a finalist in our country but unfortunately i never got a chance to go to the United States of America for my exchange study. This did not bother me because I knew that i was destined for greatness.

The once in a lifetime experience pushed me to search for more opportunities for highschool students and i found the Stockholm junior water prize 2022which i applied and by God's grace i was selected for my project presentation that entailed conversion of water hyacinth to manure at the Swedish ambassador's residence in Gigiri and i never took it for granted.

I managed to go for my project presentation and i managed to drive my project to take the second position and i was really proud of my efforts. I was really happy and delighted of my progress in becoming a successful person in life and up to date i have had a positive attitude towards life. Despite of all the adversities i faced i managed to drive myself forward into becoming a successful person in life. Currently I'm in my final year in highschool and i look forward to attaining good grades so that i can join a good university and enroll myself for a good career.
