1 First Sighting

A young lady sat upright in a hospital beds, bandages wrapped around her back. Her skin as white as snow and her lips were a pale dark blue. She looked like she barely eats even though that wasn't the reason she was in that bed.

A tall man sat next to her facing his entire body to her. From the door you would only be able to see his shaped up inky black hair and his wide straight back. A back that was meant for protecting. He was using it to protect her.

"Say that it won't be the same without me, that you won't even have fun unless I'm there." She went through this every time Hao YunXiang went anywhere without her, but she was extra dramatic when it came to when school was starting.

Hao YunXiang answered without an ounce of hesitation. "You're right. I won't have fun unless you're there, I promise." And Hao YunXiang fed into her dramatics being as handsome as can be. If one looked up a perfect and understanding man a picture of him would pop up even if one spelled it wrong.

She didn't take his words to mean as they did. She pushed again. "No girls unless I have met and seen them before." She knew he would follow her rules- after all, he was a perfect betrothed partner in every way. As long as she told him what to do, he would comply.

"I don't want to be around anyone but you, Lizzy." His plush lips kept straight repeating the mantra she made him say every time he visited.

"It's a shame I can't come.. my wings." She whispered seemingly to herself but she said it loud enough for him to hear. If anyone looked inside the room they would see a happy couple. They would see a supporting man that doesn't want to leave his women's side. They would see that he never looked at her in her eyes and instead always looked down as if in fear. People would say that fear is necessary in relationships so that no one strays on the wrong path.

"I know. I'm sorry." Hao YunXiang apologized and his back that was meant to protect seemed to have gotten smaller as the young lady said the next sentence.

"What's to be sorry for? It's not like you made them this way.. right?"

"Shit! Shit! I'm late!" Lumin ran at a consistent pace towards the front of the school.

A red headed teenager, shorter than Lumin -not many were as tall as him- walked towards him. "You can slow down. They won't notice if a student is missing or not, I swear." Scales shown on his face and he had a large gang that hung out on the left side of his face. He wore a suit and it made him look older than he was, or maybe it was the bags under his eyes that made him look like he worked a 6am to 9pm job six out of the seven days a week.

"Just because you said that, watch them notice I'm not there." Lumin was still speed walking a bit and the red headed boy decided to play along and sped walked along with Lumin.

It looked like they were strutting across the food area and up the stairs before they found the auditorium of the University. "Ha! If you have that bad luck then I would be worried how you survive the rest of the year." He stood on the side of Lumin before looking at him up and down as if finding him satisfactory. "Maxwell, lavare dragon and future Sophmore VP."

"Lumin, uh…. Botany Major and elemental witch?" Lumin reached out to shake his hand glad that it was returned. He's been in situations where he held out his hand to people and they just look at it- those are indeed awkward situations he would rather not think about or even experience again.

Maxwell smirked as if he was playing with a new toy. "Why'd you say that as a question?" His eyebrow quirked when he looked towards the witch.

"Why do you introduce yourself by a position you don't have yet?" Lumin felt Maxwell's eyes on him but his face didn't change. He was a master at controlling conversations and such tactics as probing questions wouldn't bother him in the least.

They both started walking towards the auditorium. They had a mutual understanding that Maxwell was leading them where to go since he was clearly familiar with the campus. "Because I've been with this same group of people since high school and me and friends have always won Student Council races."

"Oh.. so then everyone will automatically know I'm a transfer kid." Lumin actually wanted to talk about how this school was breeding introverted kids by keeping them with the same group but the rich had a different way of doing things, he didn't have enough money to talk or ask questions.

"Pretty much."

[Welcome Monsters, Creatures, and Ghouls!] Headless HeadMistress Bloodgood was standing in front of the podium. She disconnected her head from her body to place it on the podium while speaking into the microphone as her body walked around to engage the students attention. [Today is your first official day as sophomores in Monster University. Are you excited?] Her dark hair was pinned upward and her fuchsia colored lipstick could be seen in the large screen behind her.

Maxwell leaned towards Lumin and whispered, "She does the same speech pretty much every year."

"Why?" Lumin responded in a normal voice as if he had forgotten the entire auditorium was full or monsters that could hear anything from a beating heart to someone's eyes blinking miles away.

[Today you all will be taking your placement test so that the teachers can know who to pay attention to and you can be placed based on rank so you get the best possible education and assistance. You all shall start classes Monday.] She took a pause and looked across the audience and her eyes seemed to light a fire as she raised her voice for the next sentence, emphasizing the last four words. [Now, let me hear that legendary Monster University Roar!]

"ROOOOAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!" The space was filled with multiple different monster calls. There were cat people who did meows that messed up the call but all together it sounded like a large monster in its natural habitat. One could tell how patriotic everyone was towards this school. They put everything they had into this call. The seemingly loudest one was the lavare dragon standing next to Lumin.

[Now we will have a word from our class President, Hao YunXiang.] Lumin unconsciously started to clap but it seemed like the hall was silent as everyone gazed upon the man walking towards the podium. No one paid attention to the Head Mistress picking up her head and making space for Alistair. All eyes were on him.

"That's Hao YunXiang, the future Student Body President." Maxwell clearly took the student government thing too seriously in Lumin's opinion but he didn't yet know how serious it was. "Don't be fooled by his cute face, not trying to be gay or anything but he is hard to get close to. I'm surprised he even allowed me to be his Vice President."

"It must be your charming personality," Lumin remarked sarcastically. Lumin couldn't take his eyes off of Hao YunXiang but that was no surprise, no one else could either.

Hao YunXiang had inky black hair that was gelled backwards. His piercing gray eyes seemed to bore straight into Lumin's soul and it was at that moment that Lumin realized that everyone could probably hear his and Maxwell's conversation, he didn't care as much as he should have though because it allowed him to catch Hao YunXiang's attention. Who wouldn't want the attention of someone that attractive?

[Don't get comfortable just because you did alright last year. They have a lot of things planned this year and it will be difficult, but I sincerely believe in everyone's ability. The moon can control some of your shifts but you control your actions.] The werewolves let out a hearty laugh and the rest of the crowd smiled as well. It was clear how loved and revered Mr. President was.

[So let's make this year be another amazing year, Monsters. And to the new chatty student..] Lumin's eyes widened as Hao YunXiang gazed down upon him and the rest of the students didn't even turn around. It was like it was only those two in the auditorium.

Hao YunXiang's mouth opened and it was a partial Leviathan transformation. The mouth looked like it was three times larger than the size of his head with multiple rows of long sharp teeth. It was clear he was a natural born hunter.

[ROAR]

His roar sent chills through the room and goosebumps chased up Lumin's spine as he couldn't hold back a smirk. Maybe this new school wouldn't be too bad.
