God is Bipolar

"Aarghhh! Attempted murder on a member of the royal family is an immediate death penalty you know!"

The maid only tightened the corset and said, "You should have listened to me when I said you had to fast for at least a day or two before the ball of your fifteenth birthday."

Ugh. Any more of this and my ribs will break. I need to escape. I then caught sight of the unlocked window across the room. Ohoho, they forgot to lock it this time. I then dashed to the window, knocking the maid off balance.

Not even looking back I quickly climbed down the thick vines sprawling down the cobblestone wall.

"Princess Lucindaaaa!" I ignored my maid's pleas and ran away in nothing but a night gown and an untied corset.

Making sure to avoid the eyes of servants and gardeners I made my way to my hiding spot placed in a dark corner in the Imperial Garden. A large Oak Tree. I quickly climbed the tree with expertise. Then waited. And waited. ....For what exactly? I had escaped at mid noon and now the sun had already started to go down. Bored out of my mind I climbed down the tree to find something interesting. The corset was starting to get itchy and uncomfortable so I took it off and threw it in the garden's pond. I knew that wouldn't stop them from getting a new one but it still felt good. Suddenly, something broke the silence, "Aaahhhh-" Then, there were more screams coming from all over the property. Those were genuine screams of terror and agony. I could feel the blood draining from my face. It came from the center of the castle, probably the throne room.

I quickly ran to the castle's doors. Two guards I didn't recognize were stationed there.

"I am Princess Lucinda and I demand to know what is happening this very instant!"

One of the guards coldly looked at me and gruffly said, "...Princess...?"

"PLEASE, NO! DON'T DO THIS, BROTHER!AAAGGGHHHH!"

Father? Before I had time to react the guard pinned me to the ground. He chuckled, "He said he wanted to kill the royal family himself, so why don't you just wait like a good little girl so he can get to you after he finishes your parents?" That last sentence was all I needed to know to figure out what was happening.

For a reason only my father and his father knows, my father was chosen for the throne even though my father's brother was the first born. On top of that he was well achieved in every aspect of knowledge, swordsmanship, and politics. Ever since then he has indescreetly been trying to steal my father's throne.

"Haha", I laughed bitterly. "I guess he has finally succeeded." After I said those words reality hit harder. My eyes stung with tears. Unlike many other royal families I was raised by my loving parents instead of being tossed off to nannies. I had many fond memories together with them. And that just made it hurt all the more. "If I somehow survive this, I will kill you, UNCLE."

The guard pushed me harder into the ground. "Keep quiet!" He snarled.

"LET GO OF THE PRINCESS!!!" The maid that was almost breaking my ribs with a corset earlier, had now just wacked the guard pinning me down over the head with a cast iron frying pan. The other guard quickly spun into action. "Hey!" He took his sword and proceeded to charge at the maid. The maid looked at me and said, "Run princess! Escape!" Right before the sword plunged through her chest. Blood spatter covered my face. Frozen I watched as she coughed up blood. "Ru... Run."

Then, I ran.

*******

I could hear the guard running after me as I made my way to the castle's gates. Along the way I saw dead gardeners and servants strewn about the castle grounds. It made me sick to my stomach. While I was playing hide and seek everyone was being slaughtered. The lock on the gates was busted so when I pushed them they easily opened. I could hear the guard's footsteps come closer and closer as I ran down the street. Amid the heavy padding of his footsteps I heard the sound of something hitting the pavement. I turned and looked to see my disassembled golden flute fall from his coat. That thief. He stopped, torn between whether to pick it up or continue to chase after me, unfortunately for me he decided to choose the latter. I quickly picked up my pace when I saw an alley between two large buildings. Hoping to lose him, I dashed into the tiny alley. I hid behind some cargo carts as I heard him run by. Phew. But, what now? I felt numb. I had just lost my whole family and workers whom I considered my friends. I had lost my status. My identity. Yet I couldn't cry. I just felt cold. I then remembered my flute that he had dropped. Though it was highly unlikely that a golden flute sitting in the middle of the road was not not stolen nor crushed by a carriage, I still had to look. I slinked out of the alley and ran in the direction I had run from. Laying there was the disassembled peices of my flute. In disbelief I gently picked it up and walked away from the road and then sat on the sidewalk. It had been a while since I had last played it. A year at least. The maids had always complimented me on how wonderful it sounded. After I was finished cleaning it with my night gown and assembling it I preceded to test it out. A sad, empty, but beautiful melody drifted through the street. I soon had an audience. After I had finished, people from the crowd placed money by my side. After I was once again alone I started counting the money. I got this much from one song?! I mean, it is the capital after all, but I got at least 43 gold coins. According to my classes that is the average pay a middle class commoner gets every half a month! I could live off of this!!!
