46 Starting My Second Mission

During the last few days on Earth, I mostly prepared by informing my inner circle of the incoming mission. I got potions made and secret weapons developed for everyone I could.

When the day came and there was a bright flash of light and I disappeared I was ready with a few healing potions and grenades kept up my sleeve.

I looked at my hub it was the same as last time a corridor full of doors but I noticed time one of the doors was already open, and I lead to a massive library.

In that area, there were books when I looked at the plaque on the door it read, "The Chamber of Insight". When I walked in each of the books seemed to have the title of a person on it but their names seemed to be blurred out.

There were names such as M**** of The Endless Voices or Y**** of the Towering Flames. They seemed not to be titles of anyone I recognized.

I had theorized that maybe some of these patrons might have been characters from media which is why they could talk about a world so clearly. They might have lived there.

But it seemed not, I walked to one of the books called G******** of the Golden Dawn. I picked it up and as soon as I did I heard a voice in my head.

"Hello young traveler, do you wish to learn more about the worlds you may be traveling to? I can tell you about if you simply do as I ask."

I said, "What is it that you want me to do?"

He said, "I would like for you to gather 10 tons of gold and throw it into a volcano. So long as you are trying to do this mission I shall not give you a deadline."

I then asked, "What are the consequences if I fail?"

The voice replied, "Tsk, Tsk, didn't your friends on Earth say that they didn't know what would happen to them if they didn't follow the task. Well, I won't spoil the surprise."

I sighed and asked, "Then can you at least tell me who you are."

The voice laughed, "Curious one, aren't you. Well, I am sorry to say your rank is too low to even see my name much less understand who I am."

I said, "Is there anything that you can tell me about the system?"

He said, "The system hmmm. Well, I would say that mostly it is a force for good. You don't have to worry about it trying to kill all humans, it wants to see you grow."

I replied, "What about you what do you want from humans?"

He said, "Well let's just say that I like you, humans, you have a part to play if not the system wouldn't have appeared to you. What that part is, I won't tell."

I said, "Well thank you for telling me all of this but I sadly won't take you up on that deal."

The voice laughed, "Don't worry, picking a patron is not a requirement. It will be fun to see how you progress without the information I can give you. Well, good luck."

I put the book back on the shelf. I continued on to pick up a few more books to see if I could learn anything else but it seemed my rank was too low.

But the personalities and tasks given were truly wild. Some of them like I expected were truly evil asking for virgin sacrifices while some were weird like requiring me to sleep 16 hours every day.

Either way, I backed out of that room. These patrons were odd, seeming to just give away such valuable information for arbitrary tasks.

I hoped that whatever purpose the voice said humanity has wasn't too bad. I mean it did say the system was a force for good, but I'm not sure how much I trust it.

I put it out of my mind and headed back to the hallway and started to pace around to find missions that I felt would fit me. I found 4 that stood out to me.

I looked at this list of potential missions and started to once again list their upsides and downsides. It was interesting to learn that now I have new info, my background when I entered the world.

I guess that was what Wrenith meant when he said he got more information about his mission than others even without consulting his patron.

Now focusing back on the missions the avatar mission was the one that was the safest and took the least amount of time.

This was a downside as I wanted as much time to train as possible and to challenge myself with opponents that would push me to improve and innovate.

They did have good abilities though. Airbending would match perfectly with my Rokushiki and Renewal Taekwondo making my ability to manipulate air reach the next level.

Learning energybending would also probably help with dealing with soul attacks and I could possibly use it to give people bending skills. Though that was not really that likely.

I mean we only saw it used by the avatar to restore lost bending, only the lion turtles could actually give bending so it might be something unique to them.

I looked at the mission before deciding that it was not worth it. I mean it was great but the other option was better, it was weaker than other worlds and possessed less variety.

The fate world also grabbed my interest. It was because it would allow me to have a great background as part of a magus family.

I would have years in the Clocktower to learn about the magecraft of that world and considering how vast its fields are I would be able to protect myself against just about anything.

The problem was despite its massive versatility its downside was that it was not that strong. Excluding the exception of servants or Shirou Emiya, magecraft was about finesse over power.

It would allow me to deal with a bunch of situations but would not be able to increase my personal power as much as in other worlds.

I know I could buy noble phantasm and skills later on but then I wouldn't have been able to train them during my stay in the Fate world making them weak when I returned.

So I decided that while the magecraft of type-moon was great in the end I wanted a bit more power from my skills.

Next was the world of Fairy and Naruto. Now, this was incredibly difficult for me to choose as they both had incredible versatility and power in skills.

Both the worlds have skills that dealt with how to defend against illusion/ mental attacks, well-established ways to learn skills, and incredibly high power ceilings.

It was annoying that for both starts I was basically an outcast and would have to survive constant assassination attempts but honestly that was just training for me to survive it later in the real world.

For me, it basically came down to preference. Both worlds were dangerous and both worlds had skills that I wanted. In the end, I picked the Fairytail world.

I decided to pick it as I immediately got my magic and that would allow me to practice a lot in the time I was there. Which was longer than that of the Naruto world, a plus in my book.

Another thing was that Slayer magic was so useful if I could choose a wind variant of it. I would perfectly mesh with my fighting style, even better than airbending or wind jutsus.

I was sure that so long as I managed to fulfill this goal I would go from one of the strongest in the world to the strongest. I doubt many would choose S rank missions much less succeed at them.

So with that decided I walked through the door preparing to enter the new world. But a screen appeared in front of me.

[Before you start your mission, what type of magic would you like to pick?]

A massive screen full of magic appeared in front of me and I looked it over. I decided that I was going for a type of wind slayer magic.

And soon enough wind slayer magic for dragons, demons, gods, phoenixes, and spirits appeared right in front of my eyes.

I looked it over. I thought of getting demon slayer magic as it would fit my inserted background best but it was incredibly volatile, liable to get me possessed if I wasn't careful.

So I ignored it and decided to pick the safe and standard dragon slayer magic. It was tried and tested throughout the entire series.

It was capable of reaching great heights without much of the downsides of other slayer magics. Once I was done picking my choice I was finally transported on my new mission.
