Chapter 39

He wanted to approach them, but he stopped. He didn't know the two others seating with her, he didn't know their families. Xiu Ying was an ordinary girl, but he was wise enough to consider the fact that their families could be powerful. Also, he doesn't know whether Xiu Ying has forgiven him yet so he couldn't approach now.

He held his anger and decided to call Li Na. he decided to speak with her.

Li Na, right now, was practicing how to approach him. She was getting as much news as she could on him, what he was wearing. She wanted to 'coincidentally' match him, so she at least had something to talk about. She knew he was a cold man and he was rarely interested in anything. She needed to be careful about this. She wasn't finding anything though.

She knew it would be harder since she didn't have Yifeng's help but she needed to slowly become independent, but she needed to do it incase he tried to betray her. It was making dents in her account right now, but she promised that she would fill that all up when she had enough.

She received a call at that moment from Yifeng.

"Hello Yifeng" why are you calling—"

"When were you going to tell me about Xiu Ying's new male friend? Who is that man and what is he doing with her?"

Li Na rolled her eyes. What was with his jealousy? Xiu Ying doesn't even like him but he is over there acting like her boyfriend. She sighed. She remembered the man she saw with Xiu Ying. She kind of understood. Yifeng wasn't ugly, but Ian surpassed him in looks in every way.

She sighed.

"Ian is her new friend. He transferred to the university a while ago. He had been friends since the test we had. Speaking of which, how are you going to get there? You weren't in the top three."

Yifeng laughed.

"You do realize that my family is one of the richest in the country, right? I don't need a test to get a ticket"

Li Na nodded to herself. That is true.

"I assure you that you have nothing to worry about. They are just friends. They are just going together, and if you are still there, you can see that there is someone else next to them."

Now that Yifeng looked, he then saw Xi Xing with them. His frown reduced. There was someone else with them, but the sight made him uncomfortable. He turned away from them.

"Whatever, so what are your plans for the gala?"

Li Na shrugged, then realized he couldn't see her so she sighed as loud as she possibly could over the phone. She needed more information.

"I planned to find out something about him related to the gala. Like his clothes, or his interests or something. Maybe you could do that for me."

Yifeng almost laughed out loud. What is wrong with her? He was right to choose his sister. At least he could control her actions. He sighed. Well whatever. She could do whatever she wanted if it wouldn't implicate him or his family.

He ended the call a few minutes later. He took one last look at Xiu Ying's table and left. What he didn't know was that Ian had been watching him while smiling. Looks like they had a stalker.

Two weeks fly by and it was finally time for the gala. Everyone was buzzing about. All the media outlets and select guests would be allowed at the venue.

One could say Ye Ying was the happiest girl today. She couldn't stop smiling. She was going to be Zhang Wei's partner. Would he come to pick her up or would she go and meet him? She didn't want to ask him because she didn't want to seem annoying and didn't want to disturb him. She knew that unless it was something important, he shouldn't be disturbed form working. She would know at most by the evening.

Right then, she got a call from an anonymous number. She frowned but answered. She warily answered.

"Hello, who is this?"

"Hello Miss Ye. This is Secretary Bai. I am calling on behalf of President Zhang. He would love to escort you to the gala later this evening. He told me to tell you that he would come get you an hour before the event and since he is one of the hosts he needed to be there earlier.

Ye Ying barely restrained her squeal. She, as calmly as she could, told him that she would be waiting. After a few pleasantries, Secretary Bai ended the call. When she heard the beep, she threw her phone and jumped around her room happily. She jumped on herbed and restrained herself.

She had to calm down. She didn't want to look immature. Zhang Wei liked mature women. Of course, he hadn't been with any, but one would know that a man like him wouldn't tolerate immature women. She imagined walking next to him. I am sure they would look perfect. She, with her gown and him looking handsome in his suit.

Zhang Wei was her prince charming. She could also imagine riding with him int the sunset and living happily ever after. Her imagination had to halt because she had to get ready. She immediately called for the servants and she started to prepare. She couldn't keep her man waiting.

Xiu Ying and her group talked a little before she started preparing. They talked about how and where they would arrive.

She looked at the time. It was almost four pm. The event would begin in four hours. She brought out her dress and admired it for a while. A lucky day to get a beautiful dress. She dropped it gently on her bed and went to freshen up.

She had a bath and went to get a drink of water. She ran into Li Na downstairs. She looked busy and Xiu Ying wondered what she was doing. She came close enough for Li Na to notice her and she quickly put away her stuff.

"Ying'er what's going on?"

Xiu Ying looked at her friend. They had been more distant now. They seemed more like roommates than best friends. She sighed. She wanted to ask what was going on but didn't want to intrude, but she looked like she had no plans to tell her. Well okay then.

She went into the kitchen to get water. When she was done, she went back upstairs. Then she turned to Li Na.

"Don't forget the gala. Since you're going, you don't want to be too late."

Li Na waved dismissively and nodded. Xiu Ying went back to her room and got ready. She needed to meet up with Ian and Ying soon. She did her makeup, making sure it wasn't too much. She touched up and then she wore her dress. She wore it and looked at herself in the mirror.

She gasped. She was stunning. The dress looked the same as that say she wore it, but this time she had it on with good makeup and well-made hair. Her hair was packed into a stylish ponytail with a lavender brooch at the side.

She wore black pumps and got her purse. She put the important things in it and went downstairs. She didn't see Li Na, so she was upstairs getting ready. She texted Ian and Ying telling them she would meet them soon. They planned to meet at Ian's place, here they would leave their cars and Ian would drive them there.

She left with her car while making sure she got everything. She was nervous but excited because it was going to be her first gala. She would try to enjoy herself and explore more opportunities. Everyone on all sides had planned what they were going to do for this gala.

For all this characters, this gala was going to begin a series of both fortunate and unfortunate events. The fates of those who have never met would get intertwined and new relationships would start to form.
