Chapter 53. Relight My (Midnight) Fire

Dante's cake is by far, the most delicious thing I have ever tasted in my eighteen years of existence. The layers of decadent chocolate sponge are gooey; covered with a lifetime supply of mouth-watering buttercream. At first I thought Nora had baked the dessert and allowed Dante to take the compliments. However, as my mate led me to the kitchen and started to serve me a generous portion, I notice a tell-tale chocolate stain on his crisp, white, dress-shirt. Now I'm certain that he was the one who made it. What's more -- I don't even have to ask; Dante spoons an extra dollop of leftover buttercream onto the side of my plate with a grin.

I'm in love.

"Finish your cake." Dante opens his mouth, waiting for me to feed him. "Mama said to introduce you officially before anybody serves the food, but I wanted you to sample my mad baking skills."

"It's delicious." I groan, mouth full of dessert. I'm entranced by the sweet, smooth texture of the buttercream.
