1 Chapter One

Riding down the road on his motorcycle ten miles away from home he was just leaving town after picking up a few new cropping tools. It was just the beginning of cropping season and it had to be done before all the rain put him behind. He couldn't even afford to lose his crops he needed to sell them off in great condition and get money out of them just to keep a roof over his head and food on the table.

The sun was just about ready to set when he made it to the driveway when he pulled up the front of the house he shut the engine off on his motorcycle and took his supplies into the house and set them on the dining table then went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. When the water was warm enough he undressed and stepped inside letting the water run over his face for a while and washed up.

Then for supper, he cut up carrots potatoes celery, and onions in chunks then sniped the green beans that he had picked this morning from his garden and the corn chicken broth, and other ingredients needed he just bought from the supermarket. Once he was done preparing all the ingredients he put everything into a pot and put it on high heat to bring to a boil. And while he waited he went outside to the barn to work on the truck.

Last year it had been acting up and was being constantly worked on but it didn't stop it from shutting down entirely. And even though he needed the truck to haul big loads it wasn't the biggest concern for him since he's been thinking about buying a new one though the cost could, possibly make him go bankrupt. It was only a thought he hadn't fully decided on it yet.

His dad was practically an expert in the family when it came to any vehicle ever since he was fourteen he was in the garage with his dad working as a mechanic and it was lucky for him his parents and younger brother were crossing the state to visit tomorrow afternoon. He enjoyed their company most of the time but when it came to his mother reminding him he should find a wife to settle down with it was irritating he already knew that but every woman in town was either old widowed married or a young woman was always taken by some guy or just not into men at all. But that wasn't really the reason at all why he didn't even have a girlfriend he just was never one to be comfortable enough to talk to anyone for long. The longest had ever been was no more than a minute or two and all it was about was selling his crops off. He wasn't one to be social he wasn't much of a fan of people and their presence besides his family of course. He loved his family he appreciated each visit he got from them even if it was two to three times a year.

When the loud alarm in the kitchen went off he stopped what he was doing and hurried inside through the door that lead straight into the kitchen. He quickly started to stir the soup then put the lid on and took it off the heat to simmer for a few minutes. And while he waited for the food to finish he cleared the table and put the tools in the storage cabinet for later use then whipped down the table before placing a bowl and spoon down to fill it with vegetable soup.

He took a seat at the table and before taking a bite he blew on the steaming hot soup with a chunk of potato then took his first bite. He moaned in delight the flavor was on point and the potato was soft just how he liked it. He took another bite and many more until the pot was completely empty. He washed the pot bowl and spoons then changed out of his clothes to get ready for bed.

He laid there for a moment in silence to clear his mind and when he closed his eyes he fell into a nice sleep. That was until he was awoken by a strange sound he checked his phone for the time it was now midnight. It was supposed to rain tonight so it was likely to be the wind blowing the damaged siding. He turned onto his side and tried to block out the sound but it wasn't stopping it was like it was getting worse instead.

To make the irritating sound disappear he got out of bed and got a hammer out of the storage cabinet and stomped his way to the door feeling so irritated that he swore he could have snapped the hammer in half. When he opened the door and almost taken a step out he stumbled back instead.

"What the-"
