It wasn't unusual for Alonso to be late for work, but after the day Natalie had, his absence weighed heavily on her heart.

I wanted to give him some space, but it's already 9:00 pm, she thought to herself. What kind of work is he doing outside of the company so late, or is he avoiding me? The thought stung, but the sound of his footsteps approaching her room gave her butterflies.
