Movieverse: Devil in the Dark

"Sir, he is like a ghost. We have no trace of him whatsoever." "I don't care. If he is a ghost, make a file for a ghost. Even if you have to find an exorcist, destroy a cult or take a statement from God, I will allow it. Even if it's a glimpse of the shadow, I want to see it." The detectives remained silent. They deemed him a crafty fox, but the truth... ... I have tried to integrate different movie characters in a single novel. Give a few chapters a try at least. Note: The movie contents and characters belong to the original creator.

Lucas wakes up with a nasty headache and every joint in his body screaming with pain. He lay in the bed staring at the ceiling.

His mind kept reminding him of the event he caused during the night.

He had complicated feelings. It was definitely him who killed a person without even a flinch. However, at the moment he did not feel like it was he who killed the victim.

He was having a serious identity crisis. "What is happening to me?"

[Scientifically, when your brain opens, the frontal lobe of your brain becomes so active; that it suppresses the other part of the brain responsible for emotions. At the moment everything is balanced in your brain.]

"I didn't understand anything."

[If I were to put it simply, just embrace that part of yourself that took action last night. Accept what you did in the past. Accept it was you, who did it, don't try to suppress yourself.]

"I can't."

[Yes, you can. You did last night. Did you forget about our co-operation. Just accept that part as your own and acknowledge it.]

'You don't have to lecture me. Your co-operation is with the other one. This me has his own life, family and work. I do not have plan to go back on co-operation either.' Lucas said.

'Oh shit. Work... I do not want to get late on the first day.'

Lucas dragged his body out of bed, crawled all the way to the bathroom, and opened the water.

Feeling the cold water on his body, he removed all his clothes.

Sitting on the floor, the water trickled down from his head to toe. He closed his eyes and saw a fire that was barely lit start getting brighter and brighter.

Lucas closed the water. The joint pain has regressed to a bearable amount, and he had slept more than he should.

Lucas glanced at the clock showing 8:50 in the morning. He changed clothes and headed out.

Exiting the hotel, he called a taxi. Entering the taxi his phone rang. He reached his pocket to pull it out the pocket, but he found out the rings weren't from his phone but from his head.

...

Last night,

Bob watched as the man in black left the bar and glanced at the paper he had left.

He picked it up and headed towards the dustbin. As he attempted to throw the paper in the dustbin, his hands did not open to drop it. He instead clenched his fist around the paper.

Bob knew he could easily handle Eric, but the Pranas was a different case. They covered about a quarter of the state and were deeply rooted. The Authority hasn't shown any interest in them as of now.

If there was even a one percent chance of getting rid of them, he will put all his hope into the paper. But he also understood that relying on someone he hadn't even met could be far more dangerous than Pranas.

He pushed the paper into his pocket and proceeded to close the bar for the night.

The next morning, Bob woke up quite early.

While he was preparing for breakfast, someone knocked on his door. It was Nadia, his neighbor.

Opening the door, she asked a question that confused him, "Bob, you are alright?"

"Yeah! Why are you asking me like that?" Bob squinted his eyes.

Nadia glanced at Bob top to bottom once again, "Nothing. I saw you and Eric last night. I was worried Eric would do something to you. And I haven't seen him since night. I thought he had gone to make trouble with you."

"No, after he left. I closed the bar and returned." Bob's breath hastened as his hand reached for the pocket. "I am preparing breakfast. Why don't you join me?"

Nadia readily agreed.

After breakfast, Bob called his cousin to ask if he had seen Eric. He got a negative answer. From the moment he left his house to reach the bar, his hands kept reaching for the piece of paper in his pocket.

Before pushing the door of the bar open, he made an extremely crucial decision.

He unfolded the paper and started dialing the number one breath at a time.

'It's now or never.' He pressed the call button.

The call connected and after three tones the call was picked up, but he didn't know how he should start the conversation.

There were a few seconds of silence before the same deep voice from another side broke the silence.

[Mr. Bob, I have been expecting your call.]

"Did you do something to Eric?" He needed the proper confirmation.

[I did what I needed to do. What is your decision then Mr. Bob?]

Bob didn't even change his expression, "What do I need to do?"

[So, you have decided to take my offer?]

"Yes." Bob gave an immediate answer.

[Good. Your job is simple. You will act as a information terminla between me and my associates. In regards to the real job, it is up to you to evaluate and decide whether the information should be conveyod to me or not.]

[From now on you are 'The Conveyor'.]

"That's it. And how and what am I supposed to evaluate?" Bob was confused as if someone was playing a prank on him.

[You will know when the time comes. And as for my second promise, it might take at least a week to deal with Pranas, so bear with me, Mr. Bob. Happy co-operation. Goodbye!]

Bob glanced at the number and felt he should make a call again. But shook his head, 'Maybe it was just some guy playing with me after all. A week to deal with Pranas, I really was delusional.'

This time he threw the number in the trash bin and deleted the number. He smiled at himself for wishful thinking. 'Maybe Eric is also just somewhere sleeping after the over-drinking last night.'

Bob opened the bar and started the new day.

...

"What the fuck? What do you mean to deal in a week?" Lucas screamed.

"Sir, what's the problem?" the driver turned to ask.

"It's nothing. Just a call." Lucas said.

[Ding! An associate has joined. Releasing reward.]

Three black cards appeared in front of his eyes.

[Please draw a card.]

'Why aren't you answering me? Talk to me. Why are you talking like that?' Lucas complained.

[Please draw a card.]

'The middle one.' Lucas got annoyed when the system started to act like a robot.

[Releasing the character card]

[Character name: John Wick

Profession: Hitman

Nick-name: The Bogeyman

Trait: A man of focus, commitment, and sheer will

Skills: Martial arts, firearms, tactical driving, infiltration, escapology, and more]

[Please find a suitable settlement for the character within seven days of releasing the character.]

'A hitman… Do I need to search for him too? There is not a single clue included this time.' Lucas asked.

[Character cards are different from Character profiles. You can summon the person directly from the character card.]

"Such positive things exist. I thought you needed more data to do miracles." Lucas said.

[Yes. Last night you could have solved the problem in different ways. Like with money, threatening him, blackmailing him, but you choose to kill him. You get the card according to your choice.]

'Now, you are saying...' Lucas clenched his fist trying to slam it somewhere but calmed himself. 'You were testing me?'

[Yes. I didn't expect you to take such drastic measures. And the card you got surprised me as well.]

'He is that good.' Lucas asked.

[You can't even imagine. I suggest you just let him handle the Pranas and see the result for yourself. But find a suitable place for him to settle down.]

'You are making it like he doesn't belong to this planet.' Lucas smiled.

[Indeed, he is not from this planet.]

Lucas was speechless. "Am I supposed to find him a house or something like that?"

[Yes. It is up to you to decide to handle this matter.]

Lucas started to think about trying to come up with a plan for the character.

'If he is not from this world, then he has no knowledge of Pranas, right?' Lucas asked.

[Yes. But that doesn't mean he couldn't find out about them. You better release him as soon as possible.]

Lucas didn't ask any more questions, but he browsed through a few apartments and cheap home lists on the internet.

After reaching the destination, Lucas met up with the survey team, and worked till 4:00 pm, and finally left for the hotel.

...

He didn't directly enter the hotel but walked a few blocks searching for a secluded area.

Entering the alley, "Release the character, John Wick."

A person manifested in front of him in full black. Lucas glanced at him from top to bottom.

'Can he really do the job?' Lucas still felt it wasn't the job of one person to fight against the entire Pranas.

[Mr. Wick, there is an assignment for you.]

'Why are you barging in again?'

Suddenly the person standing there became full of life and replied, "What is the task, sir?" He looked directly into his eyes.

[A group called Pranas is active in the Keystone State. There is no need for them to exist anymore. I will let you handle them.]

"Is that it, sir?" John Wick asked without any change in his expression.

[Yes.]

"It will be done." John Wick gave a slight nod and turned to left the alley.

'Can he really do it alone?' Lucas was still skeptical of one man vs the gang.

[Just relax. You need to call the first character profile as well. You haven't forgotten it, right?]
