Justice Or Vengeance?

Having filled himself on food and consoled Lily enough until he felt safe leaving her alone, Bazel left his humble home and headed out into the world.

He was wearing his usual suit, carrying his usual briefcase, and talking on his usual phone. Alas if things went as Bazel planned, the day would be anything but the usual.

"Neto, its me Bazel I have a favor to ask."

A loud and jovial voice rang out from the phone in response, causing Bazel to have to move the phone away from his ear a bit.

"Ey amigo, been awhile since I could do you one. You are always helping this hermano out, what can I do for you?" said Neto from the other end, his voice randomly breaking into a thick Spanish accent.

"Lily was kidnapped last night, it was a professional job tied to a ring of scammers that have gone under the rada-"

"WHAT, WHY DIDNT YOU CALL ME EARLIER" yelled Neto, in perfect English.

"Calm down Neto, I managed to get her back just fine. Heard about the explosion that took place in the outskirts of central? The bastards that died were the ones who kidnapped her, I just walked in and rescued her. I was so shook up that I couldn't think straight, but it all worked out in the end I guess. Still, there are many loose ends that need to be tied up. That is what I want you to help me with."

"Hmm, I see. I will have some of my boys go out and watch your house. Also give me the info on the leads that you have, I swear I will follow them to the end and put these diablo bastards behind bars. Then you can have a field day with them, make them stay in for good" promised Neto, his tone serious and professional.

Bazel just shook his head while giving the information to Neto, still not able to completely adapt to the fact that a police captain is calling his coworkers his "boys" like some gang member.

Hanging up the phone, Bazel lined up at his usual bus stop and got on. Except this time his destination was not his usual place of work north east of Central, where the local Government was set up, but instead to the East Side where Lily's high school was.

"Huh, where did my ruler go" wondered Bazel, searching his briefcase.

"Well whatever, the legal documents do not need to be *that* perfect I suppose. I do wonder where I lost the damned thing, such a high quality metal one too."

Shrugging the mystery of the missing ruler off, Bazel continued to sharpen his best and most terrifying weapon that he could unleash on anyone: Lawsuits.

He continued to write them, one after the other, right up until just before he finally arrived at the school.

Stepping off the bus, he walked past the sign that had the name of the school and its slogan on it: " Eastern High, The Best Choice."

"Best choice, what a joke" scoffed Bazel as he walked up to the front entrance, tapping on the buzzer impatiently.

"Its Sunday we are-" started the voice from the other end of the intercom, that was silenced quickly by the ID that he was holding.

"What is someone from the prosecutors office doing here..." muttered the voice almost inaudibly before buzzing Bazel in.

"Its not an abuse of authority, simply the perks of the job."

Such self consoling thoughts aside, Bazel immediately walked into the front office and ignored everyone inside. Instead electing to directly enter the principles room and sit down without so much as a word.

Perhaps it was the confidence that irradiated from Bazel or perhaps it was the sight of a man in a full on black suit suddenly appearing that stole the words out of the principles mouth, but he was silent all the way up until Bazel opened his briefcase and handed him the lawsuit.

"Failure to guarantee safety of student, failure to inform legal guardian of the changing situation, failure to inform guardian of the entire situation, jeopardizing student safety for the sake of reputation... what on earth is this about? When have we ever done such a thing!" demanded the principle, slapping his hands on the desk before he even finished reading the documents.

"I am Bazel Vasa, ring a bell?"

The principle seriously thought for a moment, before remembering exactly who the man in front of him was.

"Bazel Vasa: Guardian of Lily Vasa, I remember now. As I said in the call before, we are doing everything we can to resolve the situation. We have already sent out notices to all the involved parents and investigated the circumstances very carefully, all the offending parties were handed out detention with a threat of suspension. If they continue their actions the suspensions will be handed out and then eventually expulsion, I think we have done exactly as we should per protocol so there is no need for-"

SLAM

Bazel leaned back in his chair, having just smacked the desk of the table as hard as he could in a fit of momentary rage, before carefully calming himself down.

"The news...did you watch the news this morning?" asked Bazel, his voice quivering ever so slightly.

"Yes I did, how does that relate to our current discussion? Also please keep your calm sir, I will call secur-"

"Lily was there, at the scene when the explosion happened."

The principle was silenced immediately, as the implications behind the words sunk in.

"Why" began the principle, before Bazel immediately cut him off again.

"Why? Because she was kidnapped and brought there. Why? Because she was misled to take a job run by scammers by one of your students, who was most likely in cahoots with these scammers. I even suspect it was not one student but actually multiple. Do you not think it is weird how behavior that would only merit a detention somehow ended up with someone being tricked, misled into working for an illegal operation, then kidnapped and held hostage for money?"

"Then...she...she" stammered the principle, his eyes wide as he feared that the worst had happened.

Bazel did not respond, choosing to keep him in suspense instead, and brought out another legal document for the principle to read and sign.

"NDA, a non disclosure agreement? What for?"

"This is now an ongoing investigation, so I will need you to keep your silence so those involved do not squirm their way out of this. I am not sure if you are aware, but I am with the prosecutors office currently working there as a junior-prosecutor. I am quite good at what I do you see, so I am even in line for a promotion in the coming weeks. So swift was my rise in the office, that I have made quite a few friends in varying levels of government. Some of these friends are in the police department, who are now investigating VERY deeply into this. The truth will come out and justice will be served to ALL who are involved. Sign the agreement...and lets hear about what really went down here" explained Bazel, placing his ID on the table and taking out his phone.

After sending a quick text and dialing a number a few moments later, he then handed the phone to a profusely sweating principle.

"From my contact in the department, just in case you didn't believe me."

The principle took the phone with a shaky hand, hoping that all of this was some kind of elaborate joke. Sadly for him, reality was not so kind.

As he talked on the phone, his voice became more shrill and his body started to tremble. He then ended the call and handed the phone back to Bazel, it now covered in sweat.

"That was more of a reaction that I thought, did Neto ask his boss to take the call as a favor? Hah, to get a call from chief deputy all of a sudden. He should be far more interested in doing what I want now" thought Bazel as he wiped the sweat off the phone before pocketing it.

"Sign the papers?" said Bazel, in more of a command than a question.

The principle nodded immediately, signing as best as he could with his quivering hands. Bazel took the papers from him, looked them over to make sure that they were signed properly, and then stowed them away in his briefcase for safe keeping.

"All right, let us get down to business then. I am sure you will cooperate with everything I ask, correct? I may be willing to put in a good word for you, just incase this blows up in your face. We could also settle the suit behind closed doors, no need for this to go public right? Of course, this all depends on how cooperative you are."

The principle simply nodded again and again, apparently this was all he could do in his terror.

"Good. Get me the names of all the main bullies as well as their information, get me a meeting with Lily's homeroom teacher, and any other evidence of bullying and harassment that you may come up with. I may get a little mad by you delivering it, but I will be a whole lot more unpleasant if you withhold anything. Remember, even if I am not allowed to prosecute this case due to a conflict of interest I can always ask one of my seniors to do so for me. I am sure they will be more than willing to put forth their best effort for a beloved junior."

After laying on threat after threat, completely shattering the psychological defenses of the principle, and making him completely subservient, Bazel simply laid back in the chair and waited.

Waited to see with his own eyes the sin that he helped create with his own negligence.
