More Than A Hero

Fame wasn't Saitama's primary goal for being a hero. But what if his achievements were recognized? *** Please keep in mind that even though I'm a huge fan of the OPM franchise, I cannot replicate each of the character's personalities accurately. And please note that updates wouldn't be frequent. This is an improved version of my previous fic. Or a completely new one idk. And yes, I am back.

Mysterious Child

Eighteen years ago, in some unknown city, a research facility that studies different kinds of monsters and mysterious powers hid under the shadows. The researchers here paid underground organizations to capture monsters for them and visited multiple orphanages to search for potential children that have 'gifts'.

Though, they not only adopted children in the orphanage but also paid parents huge amounts of money to hand over their children. The researchers did not force the ones that refused, but they mostly targeted parents that did not want or despised their children for having these so-called 'gifts'.

One, in particular, was Tatumaki's parent. A single mother on the verge of a meltdown, she despised her children, especially the oldest. She was scared of Tatsumaki, she knew what her child was capable of, and she had multiple plans on getting rid of them. Then one day, two men in white knocked on her door and offered to take her children in exchange for money.

The amount was more than enough to live the rest of her life in luxury, she did not hesitate and chose to hand them in, but the men only accepted the older one, Tatsumaki. She has shown promising progress with her powers and thus was more fitted for their quota.

Tatsumaki hesitantly went with the men, looking at her mother's wide grin and little sister's crying eyes. She did not know what was happening, but she still obediently followed her mother's orders and went with the two men in white.

...

"Gasp! W-what the fuck..!" Tatsumaki awoke from her slumber, for some reason every time she had a nightmare, the same memory from the past appears. She did not want to remember those, it was the last thing in her brain that she wants to remember.

Tatsumaki got out of bed and opened her window blinds, it was already morning, past eight o'clock by the looks of it. She went to the bathroom and fixed her messy hair, not that it changed anything then brushed her teeth. She floated over to the kitchen and made herself a nice cup of coffee then sat on the sofa in the living room.

She opened the television with her telekinesis and browsed the channels for any interesting news. Tatsumaki stopped flicking her finger when something caught her attention, the familiar bald head and plain expression were on the news, along with his disciple. She smirked, it was on the headline currently.

"On today's news, two new S-Class heroes have been welcomed to the Association, any further information about them has been blocked but the Hero Association will officially announce their rank and position in the top brass of S-Class..."

The news continued, and Tatsumaki couldn't help but form a smirk on her face. For some reason, she's been obsessed with helping the bald bastard, yet she still hasn't formally met him. Actually, she planned to change that today. Tatsumaki finished her coffee and changed into the dress she usually wore.

The cabinet opened and multiple clothes of the same appearance were shown hanging on the top. She did not bother picking one since they all looked the same anyways. She closed the closet door and headed outside, she didn't actually use her front door and just went to her balcony and directly flew from there, not forgetting to lock the sliding door before disappearing.

...

"Sensei, the association has tasked us with our first official mission," Genos informed his master, it has been two weeks, yet their first task was only issued now. Saitama was dead bored, he did nothing else but read manga all day long. While Genos was... well he was still Genos so he cleaned every nook and cranny of the tiny apartment they live in. Genos held a spoon in his hand and wore a pink apron, this outfit did not fit his serious-looking face.

Saitama flipped through the pages, sunlight reflecting from his shiny head. Genos peacefully cooked hotpot as he watched his master's actions. He was secretly noting down everything in his super secret notebook that he made doctor Kuseno add to his arsenal.

"That's good I guess... we haven't done anything in two weeks anyways," Saitama answered enthusiastically. He closed his manga with a thud and placed them on the small table. "Then, we shall go complete this after we finish our meal, sensei," Genos said, and brought the pot to the table for them to feast on.

"Mhmm..! As expected of you, Genos! Delicious food as always." Saitama praised and Genos beamed, he was waiting for that his master to say that. "Nothing less is deserving of you, sensei!" Genos said, after all, he strived to make his master's life easier and enjoyable, and of course, to uncover how his master achieved his overwhelming strength.

"Burp! That was good..." Saitama let out a satisfied sigh. He stood up and took his costume from his closet and changed. "Genos, let's go."

"Hai!"

...

Two figures zoomed through the forest, they were headed to an undisclosed location. "Sensei, I shall now inform you of the information they have given us, we have been tasked to eliminate a rogue monster of unknown origin—"

"Genos, didn't I say 20 words or less?!"

"Ah! I am deeply sorry, master!"

"In summary, we are to kill a monster of unknown origin somewhere in this forest," Genos said, careful of his words.

"They said this task would make a great debut for both of us," Genos added as they landed near the location they were informed of.

Saitama sighed, this place was nothing else but trees, no signs of man-made objects. "So, how do you suppose we find that thing?"

"I mean when I'm trying to find something I usually run around till I find em'." He scratched his head and said, "Though I'll probably get lost that way here."

"There is no need for that. I shall scan our surroundings for signs of life." Genos said and activated something from his eye.

'Hmm, my scanner can reach a radius of around 10km... But I still have not seen any sign of significant life—wait, there!'

"Sensei, I have found our target!" Immediately after saying that, Genos blasted off in the direction he scanned. His master followed closely. They were going at the speed of an average car, arriving at their location in no time. Genos landed and was followed by Saitama, their arrival caused the surrounding wildlife to scatter from the area. Genos was vigilant, he have his blasters ready in case of an attack.

Saitama tapped Genos, confused as to why he suddenly made a move. "Is the thing supposed to be here?" He asked, laid back as ever. Genos glanced at his master, staying vigilant for any sudden movements. "Sensei, I have detected huge danger in this area, please be wary." He informed his master.

"Oh, okay." The cyborg moved, treading carefully throughout the area, he did not want to alert whatever being was in this forest. Saitama was the complete opposite, he did not care at all. He has both his hands behind his head, walking closely behind Genos while humming something.

Minutes later, Genos made a gesture with his hand that stopped Saitama in his tracks. "What's wrong?" He asked, to which Genos answered. "It seems... The being has disappeared just as suddenly as it appeared." This confused Genos, his scanner was top-notch, after all, doctor Kuseno was the one that made it. It did not make sense for it to suddenly start malfunctioning.

'Wait... does this being have the ability to hide its presence..?' The cyborg thought, after all, it wasn't entirely impossible. Though, it was highly improbable as only a few have the ability to do so. If it was an unimaginably strong being like his master, then maybe he could understand it.

"Hey, what's that?" Genos was brought out of his thoughts when his master pointed at something. Genos looked in the direction his master was pointing at and was immediately vigilant. Not too far away from them was a small bush, about half their height, something was behind that.

Genos immediately had the idea of burning the whole thing to ashes but soon threw away the thought. What if it was an innocent animal? Even if it was wildlife, he did not want innocent blood staining his robotic hands.

The cyborg ignored his urges and quickly kicked the bush strong enough to uproot the whole thing but weak enough to not kill. When his foot went through the leaves, he felt nothing but the small branches grazing his leg. In the end, there was nothing behind the bush. Genos was overthinking.

"Sigh... sensei—!" Genos turned around and was immediately alarmed when he saw something on top of his master's head. "Sensei! your head!" He yelled and dropped a kick directly on top of Saitama's shiny head.

"W-what! If you're just gonna make a cheeky comment bout' my head then ya better drop it!" Saitama rebutted. "No, there's something on your head!" Their exchange lasted no more than 5 seconds before Genos dropped his kick.

When he felt like his leg struck something, his expectations were shattered when the being he kicked was not sent flying. It didn't even budge an inch from his master's head. 'W-what?' It was unbelievable, that was a kick powerful enough to shatter an average human's bones.

Genos retreated. He looked at his master worriedly. "Oh, what's this?" Saitama questioned, he actually didn't feel the being land on his head. Saitama, still laid back picked up the being on his head and pulled it directly in front of his face.

"Hmm, what are ya' supposed to be? I can't even feel a single gram weighing on my hands." The master confusingly asked, he was more surprised by the fact he didn't feel the being on his head till Genos mentioned its existence.

"Sensei! Please be careful, we do not yet know the identity of this being..!"

"Genos, it's fine he looks completely harmless to me," Saitama said, looking directly at the being's lifeless eyes. 'I cannot possibly comprehend a being of unimaginable strength in his views on dangers...' Genos thought, since Saitama had never met a match since his hair started falling off, his sense of danger had completely fallen to the bottom.

Saitama analyze the being, it looked like a 10-year-old female child, and her hair was completely white. She was thin, but not unnaturally for her height and age. She wore ragged clothes, ripped and dirty. Saitama almost mistook her for a homeless person had she not been a child. When Saitama held her in his hand, she felt unnaturally light, maybe even lighter than a feather.

"Hey there, where are your parents?" Saitama asked, sounding as friendly as he could. He was not good with children in the first place, so he had no confidence in gaining this child's trust.

"..." The child merely stared at him, not saying a word.

"Hungry." She said, still staring at Saitama dead in the eye.
